Social regeneration the challenge in Dominica after Maria says PM Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that the challenge in Dominica after Hurricane Maria is not one of physical renewal but of social regeneration.

He made that statement while addressing the Caribbean Theology Today Conference in Suriname on Thursday.

“Our challenge is not one of physical renewal but of social regeneration,” he said. “It’s a challenge that asks what are the needs of a moral character of a nation? What are its fundamental beliefs, culture and education?”

According to Skerrit his government’s plans are and will continue to be rooted in environmental and ecological sustainability.

“We have protected our forests and our oceans and we must not relax that duty in search of easy solutions,” he stated.

Skerrit stated that Dominicans have stood up and stepped up following Hurricane Maria and the island will play its part in building global resilience.

“We did not contribute to climate change, but we will play our part in building global resilience,” he remarked. “To be the first climate resilience nation in the world is to learn from missteps.”

He also mentioned that his government is committed to helping its Caribbean brothers and sisters reach resilience faster, “by learning from our journey.”

“Today the Commonwealth of Dominica commits to launching CREED [Climate Resilience Execution Agency of Dominica] in a box,” he explained. “It will be a digital space to access our climate resilient national plan and background papers…honest reviews of do’s and don’ts from our officials.”

He continued, “Those who suffer the consequences of climate change must not tolerate the failure of conscience and responsibility from those who have created it.”

Skerrit called on all to pray for the safety of the Caribbean nations this Hurricane season.

Dominica was devastated by Hurricane Maria last September.

I wondered why they use a file photo for these releases but when I saw a picture of Roosevelt Skerrit in Suriname last week, when he visited the central market in Paramaribo with President Bouterse I realised why. He does not resemble the file photo very much and looks unwell and bloated. The picture is dated 12 June, last week and you can see it on publieknieuws.com/2018/06. We should be told the unvarnished truth. After all, he is our P.M.

Credit to the PM for his lovely speech during the Caribbean Theological Conference in Surinam. The Climate resilience country that we can build in Dominica must be dealt with systematically. First of all, the PM needs to monitor n get rid of all those who are building some plywood houses n some cheap rip off houses for Dominicans although the money is given for top class houses. The mental games played by such rogues frustrate the poor and needy in Dominica. The PM must get rid of all those who make bobool n confusion with the state’s money. The PM must public rebuke n chastise those who work against his ideals n goals for a better Dominica, by helping their friends n family but making people suffer.. In all circles, village councils, comumity groups, contractors or builders n those in authority. PM set the people free. Free up the lil man… Hold those in authority accountable. You must fire the bad eggs.. Publicly make examples, during your leadership you have stomach to much

“………must be dealt with systematically…..” The first person that PM must deal with is the PM…himself. He must Go and now.

Man enough….I concur with your statement…here it is: ” The PM must get rid of all those who make bobol a confusion with the state’s money. The PM must publicly rebuke and chastise those who work against his ideals n goals for a better Dominica, by helping their friends n family but making people suffer.

Social regeneration: A process of tackling the social problems that lead to deprivation, such as crime and drugs. The process is different from physical regeneration, which tackles run-down buildings and communal areas, and economic regeneration, which is aimed at creating jobs and wealth. According to Mr. Skerrit, his government’s plans are and will continue to be rooted in environmental and ecological sustainability. Yet, at the same time, he uses social generation to emphasize morality? Are you telling us that apples are mangoes because they are both fruits? Who is writing your speeches Mr. Skerrit? All communication directors are not speech writers. Please read and understand your speech before you come begayaing and marmotaying words. Some of us Dominicans are very smart. This is so seriously flawed.

Hon Linton and his Team are way pass that level, but the Labour Party group are politically illiterate and the unfortunate thing is that these blind supporters like this “Kid”, are so blind that they don’t realised how disgusting their silly behaviour and blind loyalty is.

I am informed that the local Suriname news medium “Starnieuws” of 11 June published an announcement that Roosevelt Skerrit would pay a high-level visit to Suriname till 15 June, accompanied by three other Dominica government officials: the director of Climate change, the director of Agriculture, Food & Fisheries and the director of Forestry. the report does not mention the names of these officials.

The PM keeps talking about climate resilient houses, but just look at the quality of houses that are being built by the Government. How can these homes be climate resilient when they would not withstand a category 2 hurricane? You can fool your RED CLINIC recipients, but not intellectual Dominicans.

A country takes on the tone of its leader. Dominicans practise tribal politics, which the leader, by words and by actions, adheres to. How can there be social regeneration when the leader is an inveterate liar, a masterful manipulator, and a chronically immoral and unethical character. This is a man who fabricated a scandal about a coup d’état then weaponised the police force to intimidate, harass and arrest innocent people of the opposition. For such a serious crime, not one person has been directly charged for attempting to overthrow a lawfully elected government. This guy has taken lying to unprecedented levels. He lies so often that he now believes his own lies. The country presently is in dire straits. It will take an honest, magnanimous, humble, visionary, charismatic, and unifying personality to truly resurrect Dominica from its present abysmal state. Skerrit does not possess these innate qualities to revitalize the country. He should be given his marching orders.

There is a time and place for everything; the forum where Roosevelt read the garbage written for him by someone, only made him looked stupid! Let us think in therms of “social regeneration” which is simply a process dealing with social problems which leads to deprivation, such as crime drugs.

That  process  is different to physical regeneration which concerns the body when we are asleep has a chance to renew itself; so that proves Roosevelt did not know what he was babbling about!

Whether or not Roosevelt knew what he was reading, that is not the place for such argument, if he wish to deal with the issues which causes deprivation in Dominica; that is a local issue which may not concern anybody within the reach of Roosevelt’s voice in Suriname.

Roosevelt should realize by now the reason for the high volume of crime in Dominica, is one (100%) hundred percent due to the lack  of employment opportunities, which he caused over the eighteen years he is puss-footing as prime…

All I keep hearing is climate resilience this, climate resilience that. I have not seen any plans in place as to when the government will start building “climate resilience” structures, homes, businesses. Many homes on the west and east coast lines are exposed the storm surges that can reach over 15 feet. Strict Building codes, regulations, guidelines needs to be put on the table when rebuilding new homes. Those who live near rivers in which water level rises during heavy rainfall need to be protected. The government should implement a mandatory evacuation plan in place during a 48hours of storm/hurricane warning. Survey the different areas where landslides are frequent and have plans in place to evacuate the area of villages that are most affected. Hurricane season is now upon us, and we can talk about climate resilience all day, but if we don’t have a plan in place for this hurricane season, we’ll be in trouble. Be Proactive! Learn from the tragedies, Our Leaders need to Lead…

Comparing Skerrit and Lennox is like Day and Night. Lennox is a BLAJER. He is like an empty barrel; an impressionist; lazy to the core. Trouble maker, LIAR and TRAITOR. Skerrit is quite the opposite. The international WORLD respects Skerrit for his great ability to handle and manage business for the country and the people and that’s what have you Haters crazy. What is Lennox known for other than causing trouble, LIE and make you pay monies to the court for his tongue. An OPPOSITION LEADER know to have the most cases in the court for his irresponsible behavior; Are you guys for real?

KID, you are accusing people of exactly what you practice and portray. Your accusatory statements about others clearly show that you are the epitome of hypocrisy. You perpetually accuse the leader of the parliamentary opposition of unethical stuff and unimaginable wrongdoings. Isn’t that hate? You always shower the PM with praise and never criticize him as if he is infallible. Even in the face of blatant falsehoods and wrongdoings you continue to heap accolades on this man ( Red Clinic, the Coup, International & Regional Passport Scandals) and I could go on ad nauseam. Take the gravel stones out of your eyes before you can take the tiny speck of dust from somebody else’s eye. You give Mr. Skerrit cult-like worship when he fully deserves our collective scorn for making life in Dominica hell on earth. Skerrit’s legacy: hungry babies, malnourished children, unemployed adults, poverty-stricken public servants, crumpling infrastructure, tribal politics, ubiquitous corruption.

      • KID ON THE BLOCK
        June 15, 2018

Ibo, I’ve never implied that the PM is infallible. No man is perfect. I shower both the PM and the leader of the opposition by what I see, hear and know of them. So too, you are doing likewise of them. I have not accused Lennox of anything that you don;t know of. Have you ever once praise the PM for anything? You all accuse the PM for everything and when ask to provide the evidence you and the rest like you have nothing to show. The hell you made mention of was formed by the UWP government when they left office. Today you and your likes are blaming the PM FOR YOUR CREATION AND WRONGS. It was a member of Lennox party who said he was too fed up with that kind of Tribal politics that he Lennox was engaged with that is why he left the UWP and cross over.

Personally, I want to wish Mr. Skerrit well . Politically, I wish to see his permanent extinction from the political landscape of Dominica. Why, you may ask. The reasons are most conspicuous. The PM is intolerant of even constructive criticisms, severely dishonest, lacks vision, uncaring , narcissistic, inarticulate, easily ruffled, and fake like a 3cent coin. After eighteen years of DLP unbroken governance, Dominica is wallowing in squalor. The leadership has failed miserably. It’s time to try something more innovative, visionary and authentic. All the DLP does is to win elections by renting planeloads of overseas voters. Too many people are living precariously on the fringe of society because of the harmful and devastating policies of the Skerrit’s regime. It’s time to loose the stranglehold that this destructive ,DLP administration has on Dominicans. Then the people can all shout in unison, “Free at last, Free at last, thank Almighty God, we are free at last.”
