A Bath Road woman is making a complaint to the media after she was told by the police that they could do nothing to help her cause.
Dorothy Prince’s problem apparently began when two dead rats were found in water which she claimed flowed from her roof.
She is claiming that the rats could not have died on the roof since “rats don’t die up, they only die down” and someone must have thrown them on her roof on purpose.
According to Prince some time aback government officials were in the area giving out rat poison after an outbreak of leptospirosis, a rat-borne disease. “I saw three rats in my house and they gave me some poison to deal with them,” she said.
She said that the poison was administered and the rats apparently ate it. She pointed out that earlier during the week they noticed the scent of rotting flesh, probably the dead rats, but could not locate its origin. She further explained when she came home from work on Thursday (May 17) her son told her he found the rats in water that had flowed through the guttering from the roof.
“Someone told me that rats don’t die up. They only die down. I found out that someone did that,” Prince explained.
She said her family sometimes use rainwater to wash and clean and now she is afraid to do so. “I am scared because people can throw more dead rats on my roof and rats carry a disease that kills,” the distraught woman said. “Someone is trying to kill me, someone is trying to poison me.”
She said she was advised by the police to take her story to the media since they could not do anything to assist her.

Here today, gone today. Appreciate the life u have. What happened this morning is in the past, ur living in the present. I believe this news is stale get a new headline. Try this one DNO! Daughter suing DNO for misrepresentation of the truth. (click like.) It is so appalling Dominican that you take everything for granted when there are actual cases of abuse in Dominica! This case is not just about rat dying up or down,or how paranoid the lady seem to be to you! it’s deeper than your simple brain can comprehend apparently. This may not have had a good start but surely it will have a good finish. Those who can read and find meaning in script will see this was not the actual story and there is much more than the media told you! i actually took the real story and sent it to an american talk show and news agency and i was advised to boldly speak against these types of abuse. wise up Dominicans everything is not a laughing matter.
Today is mine the next day is yours! we all know the cliche’ who laugh last laugh the best. Ignorance is really a poison and it seems that is what Dominicans suffer with the most. I am sure a good story or one trying be the best reporter never gives the actual truth. So truth be told let me give the side of my story. To those of you who claim i am not educated, paranoid etc. Think of me like the one who is above you for your small talk. My actual words were deleted in order to be a juicy story, one which would have place DNO on the map for a great story but think about it, did it actually? or just place us one step behind the goal in which we tried to reach? so for my fans this is what happened. I reported to the police the events of may 17th, who advised me to go to the media which i did hoping this story would alert an awareness on the cruelty, which goes on,on a day to day basis.How ever just like all eager news reporter (you know yourself) saw it like a big break and relish in my misfortune. I vividly recall saying that the rats were seen on the ground,which later due to the heavy rain miraculously got in my water through the roof. Now because i have had similar missharps to such extent and worse i felt like this was the last straw and people should know what others are facing even here in our small island. Now tell me, should i have retaliated or seek advice from those who claim to be our protectors? The truth is no matter how we try to be the better person in making the right decision we end up being the ostracized as is clearly seen by your comments.I have lived a full life some of you who are commenting have not and as we see times are getting even worse, what will you do when it is your turn? I’m guessing nothing like what i have done right? lol.

When animals eat poison they tend to go drink water and that causes them to die…i had a dog that was poisoned and was dragging around the yard…then it went to drink water from a gutter and as soon as it did that it just died

For the concerned citizens who have insulted someone’s wife, mother and daughter.
The dead rats were already on the ground which was seen by a neigbour, however during the heavy rain they fell from the roof. Therefore someone removed it and send it on the roof. I think the DNO reporter wrongly summerized the story. To avoid confronting anyone, which could cause problem, she went to the police. Those of you who do not know the the danger of rats. three pp died in the PMH from Liprospirosis late last year. Wow!!! you’ll are amazing with your remarks

Except that she is not thinking that those dead rats could from her own house–even she had treated them with poison, because they would not go atop her roof to die–“rats don’t die up” is the concrete idea in her mind.
So her fear is that someone planted those dead rats on her roof to poison and kill her. As I said already, if she continues, with that mentality of fleshly fear, it will eventually rupture her mind to cause her own death–no one else will be responsible for that.

Personally, I do not see anything funny–to laugh about–but there is a mentality of ignorance expressed in that story. Because of that ignorance, Dorothy Prince could end with a miserable existence of fleshly fear for who knows how long–a misery that would not be necessary at all.
And “ignorance” means “not knowing”. Sometimes we do a lot of things, that will affect others, out of “ignorance”. For that reason, I do not think that the act of “ignorance” is a laughing matter.
In the first place Dorothy embraced the idea from someone who told her that “rats do not die up, they die down”–what does that mean? But that is the first dose of poison–the fear which could rupture her state of mind to kill her spirit–not her physical body. However the death of the spirit is the worst death.
What Dorothy failed to understand because of her ignorance, is that, if rats were being fed with poison in her environment, she should know that they would not die instantly after ingesting the poison–they would move about with that poison until it takes full effect in their bodies wherever they were–up, down, inside, outside, on their backs, on their bellies, however!
Instead, ignorance has gotten her mind all choked up with the idea that rats could not have died on the top of her roof, so someone planted them there to affect her–good heavens!
Dorothy does need help! That help should teach her how to deal with the thoughts of her mind–which is stated above. Now anything difficult that should show up in her life, she is going to respond with that same emotion of fear in her mind–“that someone is trying to kill her, someone is trying to poison her”
While we are embracing Dorothy’s story as a “dose of laughter” for ourselves–and yes, laughter is a good medicine–Dorothy is now nurturing a thought in her mind, causing “a broken spirit” in her, which could “dry the bones” of her body
That should have been our concern here–that is what we should have noticed in the story. Dorothy’s cry for help is not about dead rats; her cry for help is to get rid of the fear of her mind, the bad dose of medicine, which she accepted from the someone who told her that “rats don’t die up–they die down”.
Yes, that is the only someone who is trying to kill her, and through her mind of ignorance she is helping that person to do the work of her own “murder”–now I meant for that part to be funny. Hehehehehehehe!
My advise to you, “Dorothy Prince” is that you are now nurturing your very own poison in your mind. Therefore I suggest that you start speaking against that deadly thought in your mind with the words of rebuke, in the name of Jesus Christ, if at all you do not want to die. im no rat poison expert but I remember my husband spreading rat poison at home and finding the rats in the pool or the outside tap. Upon investigation we found out that the type of poison used causes the rat to be very thirsty so they would go in search of water.

Plausible theory:
Ms Prince confirmed she saw rats in her house.
She also confirmed she administered rat poison and the rats apparently ate it.
The rats died on her neighbour’s property.
Upset, her neighbour threw the dead rats on Ms Prince’s roof from whence they flowed down through the guttering into her water tank.
Now this may be difficult to prove without a witness, but Ms Prince did the right thing to call the Police.
Dorothy, put your trust in God only, and then you won’t have to worry about dead rats and people trying to get you.

P.S. Ms Prince spreading that rat poison anywhere around your home is not a good idea, hence the idea of the rat dying and infiltrating your water.

I am surprised by all the negative responses, even though some feel that this should not be reported. Sometimes a situation or a comment may be dumb to one persom, but a dumb idea often can be an inspiration for another idea, etc for those with an open mind or simply reveal something else. It would be more important, it would seem, to look at the bigger picture.
The possible information that this story is bringing to light includes health concern for all those that are surrounded by rat. Are other people having a rat problem in general? This is a problem that can bigger, if there is really the beginning of one. Regardless how the rats got there, this should be address not as a one woman “joke” story, but as a potential health hazard. Who said it cannot grow into a bigger problem if it is not handled appropriately? There are cities that are infested with rats which did not start as a major issue. Yes, a dirty environment attracts them, but there are also those with rubbish around that probably that do not have a rat problem. There are obviously other variables, then.

On a serious note..the lady does have a point..she lives on Bath Road, she has a deranged nephew..nothing can be done with him..his is very vicious..just the kind of character to send the dead rats on the roof, knowing that the water is collected in a drum..They do have water..but u know old folks..always trying to save a buck!!

Didnt she want the rats to die then, when poison was spread the area ? not because she took the smell of dead rat and felt satisfied the rat or rats that was in her home is dead, werent more rats in the area? The area seems to be rat infested, so ratzzz lol will keep dieing, when the rats eat that deadly poison and they start feeling the effects of the it, is like they are getting mad, and running for their lives, they ended up on her roof unfortunately, and died there, what business is that, PEOPLE OR SOMEBODY TRYING TO KILL ME boy or boy, what superstition!

Ebeh Dorothy. Common sense should tell u that the poison worked. Be the true Christian that u claim to be and thank God for ridding u of those rats and the diseases they could have infected u with. Unless u would like to share the rest of the story with us so we could put sense to nonsense.
Rats do die in ceiling and on roofs. I have spread rat poison in the ceiling of my house and they were found dead in the ceiling.
of course they do die in roofs where did she get this info from. they were trying to escape through the drain and could not make it so they died there and the rain come and wash them down just common sense
