UPDATE: God has worked a miracle in my life – Charles Savarin

Savarin

Dominica’s Minister for National Security, Immigration and Labour has reassumed work despite not fully having his voice back and said God has worked “a miracle” in his life.

Savarin, who underwent open heart surgery in Martinique in June to correct a severely elevated aorta, held a press conference Thursday, his first day back on the job.

He said his voice was “severely” affected during the over 10-hour surgery he underwent.

“It was explained to me that during surgery, because they had to work close to my vocal cords in reconstructing my aorta, the nerve which operated one of my vocal cords had been cut and that was the reason for the loss of my voice,” Savarin said in a very hoarse and raspy tone.

“I consider the series of events which took me to La Meynard Hospital and back home safely to be nothing short of miraculous, and give thanks to Almighty God for the miracle he has worked in my life,” he emphasized.

He said he’s been told that recovering his voice would take 6 to 12 months with voice therapy, and he will be under medical supervision while on the job. He did not disclose his priorities as he reassumes office, as he said he would have to be briefed on happenings in his ministry during his absence.

Savarin thanked Dominicans for their daily prayers and supportive words during his absence from office. ”I will cherish [them] for the rest of my life,” he said.

Charles Savarin was airlifted to hospital in Martinique on June 15 and returned home on July 30.

    So Charlo got a Miracle?
Maybe, but it was from Medicine, not from GOD.
If it was someone living in some rundown shack, living on $10 a week and getting no medical attention, all the prayer in the world would not likely stop him from dying of his heart attack.
Anyway doesn’t the Bible say that its God will (not peoples) which is done?.
Apart from praising GOD, what sense is there to praying . . placebo?
I will believe in Miracles from GOD, when there are Miracles from GOD.
Something simple . . like a man’s hand being “replaced” overnight after it had been cut off for ‘stealing’ and that of his false accuser “dropping off” whilst at work. . .
Everyone knows that this is impossible . . except if its done by GOD!

Mr savarin i hope you get better soon,We all get sick,Stop the politics, dominicans go to bed and wake up with politics on their mines,we must not wish other people bad when they are sick.Have faith in god mr savarin and not to give up.

So for these guys. They feel all comfortable and blessed running to Martinique for whatever surgery they need. while they make no effort to improve Dominica health care system that is in shambles. We’ve got a medical school in Dominica yet we at a point where we give our citizen expired antibiotics, cannot even supply oxygen to a stroked out patient…. Its a damm shame. Fix our system!!

@ pappy, God will always be God inspite of what you say.You not believing in God will not stop HIM from being who He is.He healed in the past and He will continue to heal. One day sooner than you think, you will bow down to Him and use your tongue to confess that He is Lord of Lords.THINK ON THAT

      December 2, 2011

I can think on it all you want and still reject it because you got no evidence to back up your claims…I study medicine…I deal with things I KNOW will work to save lives, not things I “want” to work because an ancient book said them…go show me the remains of Noah’s Ark and how he could fit billions of animals on it and then we can talk.

DOMINICANS ITS A SHAME WE PUT SICKNESS, DEATH,PAIN, SORROW EVERYTHING IN POLITICS REMEMBER TODAY IS MINE TOMORROW IS ANOTHER. RESPECT THESE THINGS AND RESPECT PPL ALSO. I WANDER WHAT IS WRONG WITH US.

  8. Pappy
    December 2, 2011

Oh, and all the people who had the same or similarly difficult surgery–possibly even within the same time frame–and did not make it were just forgotten by god, huh? God does not care about the people who die every day, just about the important world-changers, like Charles Savarin, is that right?

Grow up! Medicine does not need any religion to work. Prayers have never helped anyone in medicine. All they can be is a placebo. If he wants to talk of miracles, let him do it, but do not confuse medicine with miracles! Do not lessen the achievements of the scientists who saved his life by appealing to a god who happily ignored hundreds of others who died across the world while wonderful Savarin lived!

It is sad that when people are not convinced of God’s ability how they behave. Have you looked around lately or at any time at all, and stop to think, where have all that you see come from? My friend dont be like old rover which is all over at death. God has made you and you should consider him. Mr Savarin’s survival may not have been a miracle but I know that prayer works. Think about that

      • Pappy
        December 2, 2011

No one has come back from the dead to say there is an afterlife, so why you so sure of it? Our minds come from the physical brain, and when we die, the brain dies, and so that should be that….You can see people almost die when they damage their brains a certain way.

Believe what you want but don’t come and try to tell me to believe in something with NO evidence to support what your statement. Savarin is a lucky man indeed and he can thank god all he likes, but that don’t mean I have to sit back and smile while everyone else puts the doctors in an inferior position as if they did less work than some god…when you go to med school, you will see who saves whose lives.

      • Truth Seeker
        December 2, 2011

And your evidence that prayer works is? Why don’t you also deal with the question of Him allowing so many other less fortunates but does a miracle by letting Mr. live? Probably you will us why He thinks that Savarin, who’s had a great life, at tremendous expense to our country, is more deserving than other mortals amongst us?

    • isupport
      December 2, 2011

Yes you are no ordinary fool you are an idiot who purports to elevate yourself by denying the works of God. Indeed He is the one who gives wisdom to the doctors to perform their art. Who are you to question God as to who should live and who should die. Indeed innocent babies die- in our humanity we ask why but we later recognize that is something we may find out at the end of time. In the mean time while respecting your freedom to spread guile respectfully “Shut Up” & thank God you still can see, talk, eat that even you He woke up this morning. The very breath you take he allows you to. Fortunately for you and others He loves us all equally despite what you may think of Him. He is not like man or else…… I certainly hope that all those scholarships/grants & other free education did not mess Dominicans up to believe that we can exist without belief in God.

      • Pappy
        December 2, 2011

Well, once you wake up and look around at history and the present, you will find that many have, do, and will continue to exist happily, fulfillingly, and smartly without any god whatsoever.

There are atheists all over the place. There is no proof that any god exists. And yet you have the audacity to call us fools for not believing something without any evidence. Go learn some science. Go learn about the man considered the smartest in the world, Stephen Hawking, and see how what little HE thinks of religion.

        Fool!

Whereas I agree with the basic premise of your point, there is emerging evidence that science is beginning to find that prayer may act as a salve for the seriously I’ll if only to allow them to rest and relax more easily and allow the miracle of scientific medicine to be more effective.

Charles I know what you are saying, but why don’t you give more thanks to the people who did the surgery. GOD does not get involve, he gave us all the ability to do good and to help others like we are suppose to do. So thanks all the doctors as well.
If he got involved, why does he not help the many homeless and hungry and prosecuted in the world? he does not get involve. if he did many others who were not as lucky as you would have been here today. Life includes a whole bunch of luck, timing. if GOD got involve then he would have preference; ask Jeff Jo family and mine

I am not sure that it was a good idea to have him hold that press conference this morning. He could have well returned to work without letting us hear his voice, it is really sad. In my humble opinion, after hearing his voice, i think it would be a good time for him to retire. YOu have done your country well, you served well, but sometimes a cruise around the world with family is a good idea.

Boy you all have jokes in Dominica! I mean the man was sick and is returning to work after surgery and he sees it fitting enough to hold a press conference before he takes back work. We talking about a man who is not an elected member, has never won his seat no matter where he runs, a man that killed the DLP, and on top of his resume he killed the DFP, yet on top of that expects to recieve a hero’s welcome.

I do not have a problem with Charlo because he is a good man who has hurt his country on everyside, but yet is lucky enough to still have a political voice.

My problem is, Cholo sees it fitting to address the press upon his return to work after illness and yet, his government lead by Mr. Skerritt has failed to address the press when the name of our country has been tarnished left, right, and center. What’s up with you guys? I am happy Charlo has recovered and may God continue to grace him with heath but but his personal health cannot be more important that the wellness of Dominica which they all brought down together.

Didn’t mamo alway run in Roseau Central and was succeeded by NP of the UWP? Just asking. Mr Prime Minister walk the walk, let your actions speak louder than words, have faith and confidence in our youths, why are you so scared to have them close to your cabinet, are we suggest they wont be yes men like the retired persons around you. Charles Savarin I am happy that you are well again but why don’t you just stay at your home?

At this point you got to decide, is it your health or your wealth, which one is first?

I don’t think that you can use the excuse of wanting to serve because from all reports the Dominican public did not care for you to work on their behalf, but you are determined to nonetheless.

Go and rest yourself, take a break from all of that. Politics aside, life is precious, you have made your contribution, I don’t think anyone can dispute that, so go on, and just enjoy the rest of your life.

I don’t see myself in that state of health and trying to run politics for anyone….. I mean come on….

I don’t criticize anyone on illness, we all have something just waiting to pop up but we must decide what is priority and what is not…

Charlo may be more comfortable and feel more alive whilst involved in ‘all that politics’.
He may be satisfied with his time on earth and have no overiding desire to (hopefully)add on a few more months, or years by doing what you would do.

You are not the only person on the watch except that you project a negative tendency. Do you have an idea when you will get sick and how long you will live? These are matters which you need to concentrate on. Thank God if you have health and strength for who knows how long this will continue? Keep watch!

      @ Civil Servant

Some people are so stupid to make such unloving comments. Wicked hearts indeed. If only they knew the time, hour and day that they will get sick and die, even in their sleep.
They lack intelligence and never give it a thought that God is taking note of their words/statements as imbedded in their hearts and will mete out His just recompense to them as they deserve.

Mr. Savarin, it is indeed a great pleasure to hear that you are back. Keep the faith, be strong, God will certainly see you and your family through. You were sorely missed. One piece of advice: dont go pushing yourself too quickly….slow and steady wins the race….YOU WILL OVERCOME!

Yes Charlo Welcome back. May the Lord Bless you and Keep you in his care. May he heal you completely: physically and mentally. May he shower you with wisdom and strength: the strength to be truthful about all things and to offer your guidance towards the leadership of this country with intergrity. May the words that you utter offer comfort to those whom they fall upon. Amen!

Minister Savarin, happy to hear that you have recuperated. Being a politician is no easy matter. It could be hard emotionally, physically and time-consuming. Please take care and do not give yourself any useless anxieties. You will also do this with the help of God. God bless you and with continued health and strength!
