Schools have been cancelled and public officers have been told to stay home as heavy rains continue to lash Dominica on Tuesday morning.

In a live interview on Kairi FM Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, urged the private sector to advise workers to stay home.

“Based on the weather conditions, I have been advised that we should cancel school for today,” he said. “There will be no school today and that is for all schools in the country. And also we have been advised that we should ask public officers to stay home.”

He pointed out that based on conditions, the rain will continue throughout the day.

“And we do not want to have a situation where people are trapped anywhere in the country,” the Prime Minister said.

He asked the private sector to take the similar decision of telling workers to stay home.

He noted that all this is being done to ensure the safety of citizens.

Skerrit called on citizens to begin cleaning their surroundings when the rain stops.

“My view is that too much is being left to the authorities to do and we need to as citizens do some more to protect our homes, properties and indeed our lives,” he said.

He stated there are reports of several landslides around the country and Scotts Head has been cut off.

Meanwhile weather forecaster, Marshal Alexander, said a Flood Watch for Dominica remains in effect until 12:00 noon as a west ward moving tropical wave continues to produce an increase in cloudiness and thunderstorm activity throughout Dominica.

A Flood Watch means that conditions are favourable and there exist the possibility of flooding during the watch period.

He said a relative improvement in conditions can be expected by Monday afternoon.

“Residents in Dominica in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should remain vigilant and excerise extreme caution,” he noted.

He urged residents to continue listening to the weather report and to take necessary actions to save live and property as the ground is saturated and river beds elevated.

Everybody is trying to play religion and think now is not the time to talk about our evils. When is the right time when? When it’s all over and life will be back to normal? By then we will all forget it and will go back to our old, ungodly, and corrupt ways!

We all have a right to support and vote for any party we choose. However, when we see our party or government transgressing the ways of God and promoting evil in the society, we MUST put our party aside and denounce their evil. Such has not been the case in Dominica the last 10 years. In fact that thing has gone so bad that there are very few churches on island today where you truly sense the presence of God. Why? Because men and women of God have been condoning the evils they know about, and in most cases, they became part of it and unless we correct this now, those corrupt seeds will infiltrate the entire nation, and Dominica will be beyond the point of return.
God is not pleased with the GON Emmanuel thing and many more…

If we think all we have to do is pray for calm during this time, I can tell you we are wrong. Prayer is very good at all times but right now I believe we need to go a step further. In Joshua 7:5-9, Israelites were being defeated and Joshua began to pray. In Verse 10, God stopped Joshua from praying. Why? Because Achan had stolen goods and sinned against God, and God wanted them to deal with Achan.

My question to us is, are we sure our leaders have not touched the accursed thing and we need to deal with that first?

Let’s stop being biased people. The flood of Gen. 6 was not just natural disaster. Gen 6: 11, The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence and when God saw how corrupt the earth was, he decided to flood the place. It was so corrupt that the very sons of God got corrupt too and had to be judged. Is it any different in Dominica today? Some of the most vibrant preachers, evangelist, priests, bishop and good citizens, are all corrupt…

seem we need to look back in history for the process going forward .I recall many stdents being facilitated by neighbouring Islands includng Guadeloupe and the US had an arrangement to fast track visa for students as well after hurricane David ..
Mnay students went to ST LUICA -Antigua and Barbados to meet with relatives and church based organizations
Children of David have benfited and many are exanples of huge success in the diaspora
Maybe it is time to reflect on sending the children partcularly those from Peteite Savanne to homes abroad where they may be welcome and give them a fresh start

The effects of Global warming is hitting my nature island hard, hard hard.
Dominica’s effect on the Global atmosphere is infinitesimal yet the effect of Global warming on our Tiny Nation is phenomenal.
Time for the major sources of Global Warming, like USA, China, India, etc, to chip in, in a major way.
