Founder and Manager of WaterHouse Films and More Sewo productions Arturo Bellot, has made a public appeal to individuals responsible for producing and distributing “fake” More Sewo DVDs around the country.
More Sewo, has been released after every Carnival since 2007, and features scences of Dominica’s Carnival in a particular style, according to Bellot.
Bellot, a videographer, said that More Sewo exists under the trademark and copyright laws of Dominica, but has been counterfeited and being sold on the streets.
Bellot, who spoke to Dominica News Online exclusively, has made persons aware that the 2010 production of his More Sewo DVD has not yet been released.
“I’d like to make it clear to the public that Arturo Bellot is the originator of More Sewo, the creator of More Sewo and the owner of More Sewo. It is official. It is a registered trademark under the laws of Dominica to Arturo Bellot. There are people going around and doing stuff which is not of More Sewo and calling it More Sewo … There is a CD out and there is a guy who is calling it More Sewo for 2010 and it is not,” Bellot said.
According to him, the 2010 More Sewo DVD will be on the market in April.
Bellot warned the culprit/s responsible to refrain from using his marketing name to promote their product. He said that he has made tremendous sacrifices over the past few years, including working for little or no pay and does not appreciate that his product’s name has just been stolen from him.
“I’d like to tell the person that its a compliment to us that they are trying to imitate us, but there’s enough space to create your own thing, and make your own name brand and your own thing to have the industry going … Instead of trying to rob and bank and trying to destroy a marketing name; a name where so much effort has been put into … the public will like it the same way so just leave More Sewo do it thing and you do your own thing,” he said.
Bellot has received negative criticisms about the counterfeit More Sewo production from fans who have viewed it. He said that this is bringing down the image of his business.
“Also I would like to tell the people refrain from selling that because the remarks towards their More Sewo are not positive and they are directing them at our product. People who think it’s More Sewo, they are calling me and telling that they don’t like it. So I think they should refrain from selling that thing because it spoiling our name. It giving us a bad representation,” he pleaded.
When asked whether he was planning to take any legal action he declined to comment.
Bellot also said that many persons have assumed that his More Sewo DVD was produced by another company, other than his own, adding “In 2007 to 2008 LJ Productions was an associate of More Sewo; they do not own More Sewo, they are not in connection with More Sewo anymore.”
The More Sewo team comprises of two more cameramen.
