“We will survive and succeed … by our own efforts” – Marigot parl rep

Parliamentary Representative for the Marigot constituency Edison James says the people of Marigot have contributed tremendously to the Dominican economy; however they are uncertain as to whether they have gotten sufficient return.

He told the official launching of the annual May Fest on Tuesday that despite that fact the people of Marigot will continue to work together.

“We are a community which understands that we will survive and succeed largely by our own efforts and energy,” he said.

Meantime James said he is also very concerned about the Layo Park Project in Marigot.

“What was the best sporting facility before the Windsor Park is now almost rubble and I don’t think it is out of place to draw attention to that fact,” he said.

He said Marigot should do what it takes to get that facility going.

“It is a facility which provides an opportunity for youth entertainment and revenue generating activities. It is important at a time like this where there is concern about where our youth is going,” he added.

Marigot is part of dominica, and it is time to stop playing the dem and us game, and the divide and rule.a country divided against itself canot stand. Mr. james do the honourable thing respect the election results which u asked for and the overseas observers which u ask for said all was fair, go to parliament,. time we stop being self-fish and ignorant and partisan and think country. sometimes u dont agree but u have to co-operate.

Allu say Edison did nothing while he was PM for Marigot, But if the Labour Party led government had continue the airport with the funds that UWP made available then Wesley and Marigot would be the envy of all of us Dominicans. However in ten years they have done nothing for them and took away the international airport and Wesley still vote for them. It amazes me how we Dominicans think guess allu will have to wait another 5 years for hand outs in Wesley. LOL.

It’s amazing those who live outside MARIGOT VILLAGE know what is good for it’s people remember those days when Marigot children were going to school in ROSEAU when their parents would give them provisions to serve them for a week their caretakers would sell it or feed their own families and give them next to nothing to eat but did that keep them down NO look around in ROSEAU see the amount of those children that made it that’s the strength of my people.I bring that up to show all of you that no one can ever bring the people of MARIGOT down NEVER and we will rise again.
We do not believe in hand out we believe in working hard and we will not wait for GOVERNMENT to purchase us it doesnt matter who is in power because power is just for a time, and another thing we do not sleep or eat politic we move on after election is over, and for those that beieve we only vote UWP let me correct you we are a people that vote our conscience their are those that voted LABOR and FREEDOM so what are your problems people.
Do you believe that we would just sit back and let the likes of you pick or say whatever you want about us MARIGOTIAN and do nothing well you a wrong.
MARIGOT people have a back bone it was our VILLAGE other people would come too to get a job at CDC ESTATE and when the AIRPORT was been build plus other folks who had Banana fields that gave jobs to other so tell me who do you think let us down just think about it was UWP around in those days NO and NO.
My people choose who they wanted to represent them and the least you people could do is to respect their decision and stop trying to insult their intelligent because our village have some of the most educated individuals in DOMINICA.
Yes, I agreed the MR.James didnt look after MARIGOT as he should when he was in power and if he had done so you’ll would be the same ungreatful a……h…
to say he only looked after his Village and forget the rest of DOMINICA..

Where does the famale athletic of the year comes from and the calypso king of Dominica ….MARIGOT VILLAGE….

Marigot people need representation in the proper parliament which they elected Edison to do but instead he sits in a bogus losers forum, ignoring his constituents interest. Now he has the cheek to complain about lack of development opportunities for Marigotians. What a moron. He should be booted out in the by-election.

That’s the very reason this dude is not Prime Minister; playing that we against them s***. I’m from Roseau and I worked in Marigot for six months; made a lot of friends; and I still go back to visit, but these people need to let go of that chip on their shoulders.

    April 28, 2010

Has Mr. James made any effort to source funds to rehabilitate the grounds. He as parl rep can seek funding and I do not think a funding agency will just finance the project if persons have not submitted a project for consideration.

What has Mr. James done for Marigot in all the years he has served as Parl Rep. NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING AND STILL THE PEOPLE SUPPORT HIM.

so true , the reason is that he was busy helping the other Dominicans who were less fortunate, at least under his watch nobody had to block roads and set fires , so he must habe been doing a DAMN GOOD JOB.

Layo Park was never the best facility in Dominica before the stadium was built Mr. James… We had Geneva in Grandbay and Benjamin’s park in Portsmouth, both of these are bigger and better.. I will agree with you that work should be done on the Layo Park so it could maintain a certain standard..

I have a few questions though, anyone that has the answer please do answer . Why are we only behind the Government to do it for us? what about the different sporting boards and Associations on island that use these facilities, do they contribute in a financial way to the different village committees/councils for the use of the grounds?

Hey I missed your comment on the new school that just opened.

Or is it that you didn’t comment? Hmmm. It couldn’t be that you never comment on anything positive that goes on in D/a?

As someone else rightly stated, there are international funding agencies that would fund rehabilitation of the park IFthey received a proper project proposal and IF it was deemed as being of critical importance.

As a former PM, Mr.James should command respect and have significant clout with such an agency, why can’t he show some initiative??

mr. james u was the prime minister of dominica, through the hard work of the marigot people, voting u as their parliamentary repressentative, and u did nothing for marigot. its a disgarace to see there are village roads in marigot that has never seen tarish muchless for concrete. the first concrete road in marigot was done under labour party. so if u didn’t do any work wen u was the prime minister of dominica, wen wil u do again. i will never understand why the people of marigot stil throwing their suppport behind u. so it’s time for the marigot people to hold u accountable for the state in which u have their village, stop trying to fool the people.

The first thing you need to recognize is that you are not from marigot, hence, you have no idea what you talking about with respect to the performance of Mr. James in his constituency while UWP was in office.

The second thing you need to realize is that, Edison James has been out of government for the 10 years, so if there are roads that are being abandon, then your finger should be pointed towards the communication and works minister under huricane labour party.

The third thing you need to realize is that, you have not been listening to parliament or any other function that Mr. James spoke at. This is why you never heard and have no idea whether or not he has been making requests on behalf of the Marigot people.

The fourth thing I need you to do is take a bus or drive your vehicle if you got one, go to Marigot, get a loud speaker and a mic and repeat exactly what you said here. Then come back here and tell us what the outcome was.

      A pleasant evening to you.

I must therefore ask – Mr James is Dominica being taken over by the Chinese. It appears that way to me. I am very concerned with the situation in D/ca. Our local owned businesses are shutting down only because they cannot compete with the CHINESE owned businesses. Is that what the memorandum of understanding is all about? Did the government sold our sovereignty for 10 silver dollars and a stadium. What is the government’s priority – is it there pockets the interest of the people and future generation?

Instead of shouting Labor Power Dominicans please stand up and take back Dominica. We have the right to public records – let us see which businesses are and aren’t paying taxes – All taxes to include custom duties. My plea is not about politics this is serious. We should not allow D/ca to become Tibet. I only hope that D/cans will now realize why the memorandum of understanding between the Chinese and the D/ca government was “ Non of our dam Business”.

It is rather shameful that so many D/cans are blinded by the short term and insignificant hand outs. How can the people be empowered when the government is selling their rights and destroying competitive enterprising. What is wrong with those who are supposedly wiser?. Are they also involved in the web of corruption?

Too shallow minded. look on the bright side . It is just a pity that Mr James , did not have the heart like some of our LEADERS today have ,all for self and none for other. Marigot and it’s people surely can fix Layo park, but why should we w hen we pay taxes , and other contributions to government, where is our share?. but as the old people say , “ah who way ha de langest liver way go live lang”
