WEATHER UPDATE: Katia continues westward with little change in strength

Latest location of Katia in relation to Dominica

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Thursday September 1, 2011 – According to the latest NHC report “Katia continues to move toward the west near 18 MPH however a gradual slowing and decrease in forward speed is expected in the next 48 hours.”

At 11 a.m. eastern time Thursday Hurricane Katia was located near latitude 15.5 north longitude 47.5 west or 1050 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands.

    My Dominica people, it is imperative you take this Hurricane very serious, and start putting things in place to secure both your safety and your family.

    When these things slow down in forward speed, they gain strength and then their forecasted direction of travel may change. It’s like a plane, reduction in power/speed, drop in altitude.
    Let’s keep both our eyes on Katia and pray that it does not reach the US, cause they are still suffering from flood waters, power outage, and destruction from Irene

        So true hurricane dean left me homeless for some months do not wish for another hurricane to hit dominica
