Weather update: New tropical wave shows potential for development

A small but vigorous tropical wave east of Dominica and the Lesser Antilles is showing some slight potential for eventual development into a tropical depression or stronger system.

The area of thunderstorms has only a 10 percent chance for development by Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center, but it could turn out to be the type of system that takes some time to get going.

Weather forecaster say the wave looks quite impressive for this time of year.

The wave is about 325 miles east of Dominica. It may have some slow development in the next few days as it moves in the west to northwest direction at about 15 to 20 mph.

There is a low chance, 20 percent, of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. Regardless of development brief periods of locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds should spread across portions of the lesser antilles this afternoon and tonight.

Dominica News Online has received several reports of rain and gusty winds in some parts of the island.

We are monitoring this weather system and will bring information as it becomes available.

We would like the Good Lord to spare us, but we have to do our part to protect life and property. Let us have our hurricane supplies together/organised and clear storm drains, etc in order to minimize water damage.Prepare to prevent!!

Residents of Dominica and indeed the entire Eastern Caribbean are wishing and perhaps praying that they will be spared from hurricanes this year. If at some point a hurricane does make land fall some residents will be affected and some will be spared.

The best way to reduce the impact of a hurricane is to be prepared. Information on emergency preparedness is available to all from emergency response officials. Praying is not preparing.

We are close to the end of July. Dominica has been spared so far, from a hurricane. I do hope all storms and hurricanes, if any, bypass Dominica. Pray for this.
We in Canada are experiencing a heat wave with humidity. Humidity makes it uncomfortable. There is no chance of rain soon. It is visible that the grass is patched and dry. There is a little wind which helps ease the heat.
From year to year, time to time, the weather fluctuates and weather pattern change. My feeling is that when the rain falls it will pour. I hope it will not be bad with thunderstorms and lightning but with such a heat wave anything is to be expected.
Only God knows what is occurring inside the earth.
I keep in mind the earthquake of 5.0 which we experienced in Ontario last year in June. I pray that we do not get another one or a worst one.
May God help us all and protect us from disasters. This, of course, includes Dominica and resident nationals.
    God bless!
