Minister responsible for Public Service Reform, Gretta Roberts, has announced that the government will maintain its commitment as it relates to the permanent appointments of public officers.
She made the announcement while addressing parliament recently.
“Since assuming this office we have kept the public informed of our progress of the permanent appointment of public officers,” she said. “We will maintain our commitment to ensuring the security of tenure of public officers.”
Roberts continued, “To-date 140 of these appointments were done within the last financial year, to include public and police officers.”
She encouraged heads of departments and permanent secretaries to complete timely performance appraisals to allow for submission of recommendations to the commission for consideration.
“Let me reiterate, as I have said so many times before, public officers must be recommended by their heads of department for appointments,” Roberts said.
Meantime, she stated that the government has invested over $20 million for the rehabilitation and construction of a number of public buildings on the island.
“This includes police stations across the island, rehabilitation of the customs apartment buildings at Long House, the agriculture tissue facility at One Mile and the fisheries complexes in Roseau and Portsmouth,” Roberts explained. “Construction of new schools and rehabilitation of existing school facilities, construction of new health and wellness centres and rehabilitation of other government facilities.”
She mentioned also that this significant investment benefits, not just the members of the public accessing services, but the full-time users of the facilities who are the public officers, “by providing them with improved working conditions for the delivery of services.”
Wow! wow! wow! slow down lady you moving a little too fast for me; who must recommend who for what? we all know what the trend is by this recalcitrant DLP administration for getting appointed in the Public Service in Dominica especially since you guys took the reigns of power; since when did that change “a joke dat man”

Oh, the reason is dept heads. Some maybe planted there to not recommend staff, so they don’t then?
If I’m not mistaken, every civil servant, with the requisite qualifications, should be appointed to the civil service after being employed for a period of six months.
This data should be readily available. How many civil servants, Minister Greta Roberts, who should be appointed are still on the waiting list? Many hundreds, I am told.
This is egregious. It is tantamount to robbery. This means that hundreds of poverty-stricken civil servants combined, are owed millions by this unloving, hard-boiled, stony- hearted, totalitarian government.
Give all public servants who are legally entitled their instrument of appointment without hesitation.
Melissa gets a fat, monthly salary, with perks, for doing absolutely nothin. Mind-bogglingly, hardworking public servants get mere pittance. Can’t be right!
When you say permanent appointment what exactly do you mean, is it like the USA’s supreme court justices that have a lifetime appointment? If so I think that is a very dangerous decision for any democratic state. People’s heads tend to get big when they have that level of authority with what may appear to them to be God Like power. We must be careful.
I honestly think we need to start holding officer elections for positions such as President, Prime minister (No we do not vote for a prime minister he is appointed), Chief of Police, Fire Chief, and City Mayor. We need to embrace our true independence and give the power of elections back to the people. Yes we vote for Parlementarty reps but that’s as far as our voting power goes, Our heads of state *President & Prime Minister are chosen for us by the other elected officials that they can sway, this is not a true democracy. A true democracy would have the people Vote for the heads of state, so far we are not yet independent.
If we were living in the days of Jesus no doubt he would drive out all these money changers that turned our parliament into a den of thieves and throw those tables on those corrupt millionaires we call ministers.

What government you talking about Ms Robert? Dominica has government? The Alibaba and forty thieves type of system we have there is government? The corrupt Skerrit and the 18 bought clappers we have there is government?
Gretta, Gretta! 140 appointments in a year? I bet that is less than those who retired, left or died during that time. No, you know jolly well that the government wants to keep their employees in suspense and see an appointment as a bonus for which they should be grateful. A very useful tool to make sure they stay loyal and don’t upset the apple cart. Advanced countries require employers to give their workers a legal contract of employment and if they don’t they can get fined and the judge will decide what the terms of employment should have been.
Oh please lady, cut us some slack. We all know that is all your “people” that have to be appointed. Just start in your Ministry. The CPO is your sister in law; someone who never worked in the public service before.

The Roosevelt led regime has had an overnight epiphany. They are now contemplating the rehabilitation and reconstruction of public edifices.
Why should one believe these promises coming from an uncaring autocracy that allowed bridges, roads, Margot hospital, all health centres, the public library, schools, post office, court house to deteriorate to inoperable and uninhabitable conditions.
Some Dominicans are of the opinion that most lies are told at a funeral when eulogies are read. That’s a lie. Most lies in Dominica come from the government benches in parliament during the budget presentation.
If each minister were to be given $0.25 for every lie they have told in parliament, every one of them, without exception, would be multi-millionaires today.
Stop this lie. People are in vacant position for years despite being recommended over and over. The public service is now operated in a manner to undermine workers security and keep them in a weak position so they cannot join the union nor protest. One day these evil deeds will catch up with all you. What goes around always come around.
What you are saying sounds good but what happens is heads of department sends up people name. People are qualified and experience for the position and between the public service commission and establishment since they smell that you don’t support DLP is oppression in your tail. People acting in 8 and 10 years at customs and no promotion. Nepotism…the laziest, incompetent and most corrupt officers are the ones being promoted. Looks like is two department in the whole government service that need promotion. A promise is a comfort to a fool, madam Minister.

Here is another clincher, I have a sister, not say her name cause she might come gunning for me; but when she was a kid she had a pen-pal, in another country lived near to me, came one day and and asks do you know suck person.

I have seen where he tried to crush the PM because he had an absent mother. I did adressed it. I said shame on him if PM grew up without a father and turned out so brilliant.
