A Grand Bay man is now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison following a charge of murder preferred against him by the police.
Christian Yannick Blanc of Tête Morne Grand Bay is charged with the murder of 31-year-old man Jason Sorhaindo of Delices who resided at Montin Grand Bay.
According to the report of the police, on August 15, 2023, sometime after 1:00 a.m., the lifeless body of Sorhaindo was found in a yard at Tête Morne with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was officially pronounced dead on the scene by a medical doctor.
Following the police investigation, Blanc was charged with murder and appeared before Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George on August 18, 2023, where the charge was read to him.
The accused who was unrepresented was not required to enter a plea since murder is an indictable offense expected to be tried at the High Court before a Judge and jury.
On the issue of bail, the Chief Magistrate said, based on the nature of the offence bail is closed to the accused.
The matter was adjourned to November 20, 2023, at the Grand Bay Magistrate Court for the start of the Preliminary Inquiry.
“New Details on St. John Home Invasion Incident; $100,000 Bail Set for Suspect”
Just showing Dominica the difference last time the system set bail for a man that killed another in the hospital for $50 000
Another example “
Upon arrest, he was charged with first-degree murder, along with additional charges of first-degree assault, and unauthorized use of a firearm during a crime of violence. His bail has been set at $1 million (st Thomas vi)”
Dominica justice system take note
Just hope that the real murderer in custody. These frequent shootings must be reduced to negligible levels.
Sad to say that this case will take another four or five years before a verdict is had. Delayed justice is injustice.
DNO what is the murder c(o)unt for this year? Don’t you think the public has a right to know? Your reporting leaves much to be desired.
ADMIN: We do believe the information should be public.
We have already contacted the police and are working on making that information available.
Allu PLEASE Stop this Gangsta rubbish, we don’t want and need this on our beautiful Island of Dominica.
They all want to live to die with a gold chain and a sac posh and a few gold rings. Thats how they want to go out. None of them will say let me try to behave myself and at least finish school and be a decent citizen. Nope, thug life thug life thug life. That is what they want and that is what they life. Ask the young girls in the area, what kind of man they like. If they prefer an man that works from 8-4 or a drug man? Majority of the young girls may say the drug man. SO WHAT YOU THINK THESE YOUNG BOYS WILL ASPIRE TO BE? If is that they have to do to get a young girls attention (you have to have a bike, gold chain, lacoste shirt, roll of money in your pocket and a joint in your mouth while tatted up in places that most places of reputable employment would not accept)
It has always been with us.
Hope the system won’t bail him and take for ever to call a case set an example as of now once they kill no bail for them well it all depends if it’s self defense then fine
@South side
The system is itself a huge problem. He will soon be on bail, and who knows….He may repeat the same thing. The system is the problem.
I am indeed happy that someone is in custody and is charged. However, we must not be selective and protect some.
On that same community we also had a motor cycle accident in the community of Grandbay. Based on police misinformation we understood that Malik Skerrit, the son of the prime minister Skerrit was the driver of a Mitsubishi Outlander that collided with a motorcycle with two passengers . The police said the bikers were injured and taken to the China/ Skerrit hospital aka The funeral home, and succumbed to injuries that same day.
But we know the police didn’t give the registration numbers of those vehicles involved in the accident which is very strange and unusual. Why? Was Malik Skerrit driving a government registered vehicle when he is not a government employee? Was there anyone else on the Mitsubishi Outlander? Where is Malik Skerrit? Was he allowed to travel out of state when he was involved in an accident that left one person dead and another seriously injured?
Onelove, All DUE RESPECT TO YOUR COMMENT, but you said the police didn’t give the registration NUMBERS of those vehicles involved in the accident. WHY WOULD YOU say that Malik was driving a government registered vehicle?
Bail is closed and a few weeks later Skerrit or one of his political hacks will call all you and then he is bailed and murder someone else even before his case is called then he is bailed again. Dominica and these Corrupt Judges and Magistrates with their Selective Justice. Judges and Magistrates and the Chiel Justice when are you all going to stop doing work of the PM. The time is going to come when you all are going to be Judged by the Father. Don’t talk about Laudat going to church every Sunday. When you pass and see how God lay his hands on this man for Hurricane Maria and then by his modus operandi in the courts. Boy Boy Boy Gentlemen and Ladies I’m informing you all, you all and the PM are going to be Judged by The Great Hands of the Father. He said you will be cursed and your children will be cursed from Generations to Generations. I am pleading to you all do what is right and just in you all decisions and judgment. The Lord above are looking at you all deception.
The one that was bailed, and he [allegedly] killed again, is from the same community. This country is in tatters. The justice system needs a total and complete overhaul.
