I am happy and humbled – Prime Minister Skerrit

PM Skerrit
Skerrit says his party is proud of its “phenomenal record of achievements”

Despite the weather, Dominica Labour Party (DLP) supporters turned out in large numbers to show their support for their leader and parliamentary representatives at a DLP national campaign launch held at the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard in Roseau on Saturday night.

All twenty-one (21) candidates, consisting of seventeen (17) males and four females were introduced.

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, in the feature address, said he is “happy and humbled” and his candidates are ready for the election carded for December 8.

He continued, “We worked hard and diligently on your behalf over the past five years. We are proud of the phenomenal record of achievements.”

The prime minister said though times are difficult, he promised that he would have shielded the tax payers of Dominica from burdensome taxes and, “we did just that,” he said.

Skerrit said, “Look around Dominica today and tell me if what you receive as a nation was not proportionately much more than what you pay in taxes, fees and other impositions. I know some of you may not have gotten all that you wanted, I know you wanted a better road leading to your house, but as a government we had to balance that against the need to have a better road leading to our air and seaports, better roads leading to our major tourism attractions in the valley and in the interior of our country”

The DLP leader said his government had to balance the country’s finances in order to develop Dominica.

“I know some of you may not have gotten all that you wanted, I know you wanted a better road leading to your house, but as a government we had to balance that against the need to have a better road leading to our air and seaports, better roads leading to our major tourism attractions in the valley and in the interior of our country,” he stated.

“I had to spend the money wisely and we had to pace ourselves sector-by-sector. I had to provide for your children at school and at the State College, I had to keep the school bus service running for the little ones. I had to maintain the PMH to a satisfactory standard until the new state-of-the-art hospital is constructed and functional,” the prime minister said, adding, “I had to keep the farmers motivated and endowed in the face of adversity…we had to help the fishermen upgrade their boats; we had to set aside funds for young entrepreneurs, taxi operators and small business people.”

Skerrit made it clear that the buck stops with him.

“So if what you wanted done was not accomplished within the last five years do not blame it on your parliamentary representative. As minister of finance, I was responsible. The parliamentary representatives asked and lobbied but I had to feed thousands…,” he explained.

The prime minister is of the view that his party did a remarkable job in governing the nation over the last five years.

“We are talking about a period in which neighbouring Barbados sent home thousands of public officers; we are talking about a period in which neighbouring Antigua and Barbuda underwent an excruciating IMF program that saw the introduction of several major taxes including income tax and even a higher rate of VAT,” he explained.

He continued, “We are talking about a period where the United States economy stagnated and tourist arrival was down…we had to choose between fixing the road and investing in LIAT to ensure that adequate seats were allotted to Dominica.”

According to him, the labour party performed extraordinarily in the circumstances and, “we are here tonight, very proud of our achievements. We are proud tonight because we are presenting to you a team of competent, experienced and in touch candidates ready to resume work on January 1st , 2015. We are proud tonight because we have in our possession a manifesto of well thought of plans and ideas for which funding has been secured…”

Skerrit said his goal is to take the country higher under the leadership of the DLP.  “That was our goal twelve years ago and that is my goal again tonight to always take Dominica higher and higher…,” he said.

Performances came from special guest Reggae Artiste from Jamaica, Beres Hammond, Dominica’s Princess of song Michele Henderson, Calypsonian Scrunter and Triple Kay among others.

I was walking back home from an Asa Barton gig in London when I decided to tune in to listen to Skerrit and his gang on Saturday night, that was Sunday morning for me.

I heard this man mention one thing which absolutely shocked me and it should shock every Dominican. He mentioned that he was in Venezuela on community day of service and he was assured by the Venezuelan president that he would receive money’s from him to keep the NEW programme going.

Hang on a minute there,is it just me or there is something fundamentally wrong with this statement. Then again, what do we expect from one who has ran out of ideas.

How can an economy move forward on the,Robbing Peter to pay Paul strategy. This is utter madness and for this admission by the PM that he is now devoid of ideas I would want to see someone new at the helm.

DOMINICANS : If you keep doing the same old thing then you will get the same results however if you decide to change things up then the possibilities are boundless and endless. This possibility creates excitement and optimism and these feelings should not be underestimated.

    Peace and God Bless

Skeritt is neither an economic or a financial wizard like Dr. Thompson Fontaine or even Mr. Joshua Francis. In fact, the man was a school teacher. He believes he did an excellent job as regards the financial management of the country. Just imagine, the economic position Dominica would have been if Dr. Fontaine, the IMF problem solver, had all the grants and loans Skeritt had in his control.

Talking about until you build a state of the art hospital is nonsense! Whether or not the hospital is in a mud house or like a luxurious palace, if there are no trained doctors the health care level would be the same!! All the money that one-man party have giving to people should be used for scholarships to train some new doctors! If money was being injected into the economy wisely then there would be no need for handouts and we would be able to afford what we need and not beg!! And you talking about you used funding from supporters in Dominica. Instead of leaving it in the country to circulate you send it abroad to build a simple stage! Nonsense! And you expect a good economy? … At least the money you say UWP receives from outside is staying within the country. Change is a must!!!!

Roosevelt Skerrit; once again you have disappointed yourself: your quest to master the English language, when you registered as an English Major; seems to have done more damage to your person and your understanding of the English Language. You did not learn very much: if you believe that you are a humble man, I have news for you. You are far less than an humble person, it is your arrogance which have you believing that you are humble!

A humble man, or person does not crown himself humble: (Fore by their fruits they are known;) hence, the people you associate with, and those in observance of your conduct and character, should be the ones to classify you as humble, or an reprobate, or an arrogant person. You do not know the meaning of the word humbled; and so I will use this opportunity to define the word humble to you; perhaps it might help you in the future.

Humble is defined as: not being proud, haughty, arrogant or assertive; there are other negatives associated with that; nevertheless, because I believe you are limited where it pertains to comprehension, I thought I should limit the definitions above with the hope you understand the few. Everything, as defined are found in your characteristics; how can you live with the belief that you are an humble man, when in fact you are wicked like hell? You once made the statement: “when people ask God for something, and God takes long to give it to them, when they come to you, you give it to them right- away.”

Do you count, that sort of rhetoric, which originate within your thoughts to be that of a humble man? I thing not! Such rhetoric are the belief of someone who has placed himself above God; you have made yourself a god over the people; so perhaps when you gave the five ($500,000.00) dollars to the roman catholic church you thought that was a gift from the god Skerrit, to another god. In any event if you believe that ; the real God, the supreme God has a place for gods like you, and trying to bribe the true God by giving gifts to your boy bishop will not pave your way into heaven, you first have to humble yourself before God, and then you can start talking crap about you are humble!

Now, look at it this way, if you were a humble man, you would not be so eager to take Lennox Linton to court, trying to extract a million dollars from him, simply because he said politicians in Dominica are preying on women when they go to them seeking help; you know this to be true, I could say the names some who are involved, however, I do not wish to jeopardize DNO, by risking them getting sued, besides I do not believe they would print it even if I produce proof. What an humble man would have done; is that he would try to defuse the situation, by refusing to take this frivolous sue to court. Such are the traits of a humble man Skerrit: humble people are not controversial as you are, you are wicked and lie, the Bible warns about the wicked, as matter of fact it tells to “fear the wicked.” You are not humble, you are the most arrogant Dominican alive; and a pathological liar at that who plays the victim every time while psychology; soliciting peoples sympathy!

    “I had to feed thousands”

Skerrit is suffering from what is known as Messiah Complex (also known as the Christ complex or savior complex). This s a state of mind in which an individual holds a belief that they are, or are destined to become, a savior.

The term “messiah complex” is not addressed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), but symptoms of the disorder closely resemble those found in individuals suffering from grandiose delusions (GD) or delusions of grandeur.

I completely agree. The Prime Minister seems to believe that he is the savior; he is the Messiah; that people should vote for him. Parliamentary representatives have no power; everyone must bow at the PM’s feet. There is no true balance of leadership in the government.

but but but…. How skerrit care about Dominica when he invest in Antigua’s music system and stage? You think Antigua Labour Party would do that? How does Skerrit care when he decided to print his thousands of shirts over seas as opposed to investing in Dominican businesses that actually do prints? How does Skerrit care when he investing in foreign artists such as Beres and Destra etc as opposed to our own artists? Do u think Jamaica, Trinidad and Antigua willing to invest in them like that? How does Skerrit care about Dominica? If he did he would do the HONOURABLE thing and step down as leader because frankly the young man run his course. Enough of Dominicans living from pay check to pay check and in the end our prime minister not doing shit to “try” (note I said try) stopping that. I’m not saying Skerrit/ DLP did nothing for the country but what I’m saying is that after 14.5 years it is NOT enough. Jobs on the decline, no salary increase for our hardworking men and women (yet his salary going up and he still taking loan for us to pay back). Dominicans stop act like fools and open your eyes. Tired let ppl have allu like majee. stupesss. I’m proud of my nationality but sometimes hmmmm.

Mr skeritt tears are in my eyes as I read your report card and respond to you sir. In the years leading to 2ooo we were doing well we were shipping farming produce to St Kitts Barbados and Antigua we were doing other business working hard and getting results for our hard work. Some of our kids had gone through pre school, Primary school, high School and University and we were doing extremely well to sustain our family. we chose to build a modest house cause our kids education was was of paramount importance to us rather than amassing and stocking wealth.Over the last fourteen years we have been struggling to meet our commitment of schooling our kids and cannot even entertain the thought of sending another one to university. Our debt is much bigger than our income because you fail to see the need to invest in agriculture, food is the biggest industry in the world and god bless this country with suitable soilfor this purpose. All over the world governments are subsidising agriculture because when agriculture flourish the effects trickles down to the entire nation, it provides opportunities for young people, but you chose to put us on the backburner, you neglected the farming community, you refuse to fix our feeder roads, you hand pick people for inputs for their farms you strip us down to beggars,
and though we work harder and longer only your close friends are doing extremely well. how can you now ask us to put you back in office, to get pittance, while you and your friends flourish in luxurty.
Only god knows how true this piece is because its who in the fire feeling the heat and am feeling it sir.

Skerrit I agree with you that you really had to feed thousands on a small budget. Managing a country like Dominica with constraints like our terrain and our small population is no easy task. Doing the roads and the bridges to alleviate traffic entering Roseau I give you all your props. The new state college was much needed good job on that too.

THe area It seems that you really lapse in is creation of jobs, development of an industry in Dominica and increasing our GDP. I would like to read the manifesto to see what you have planned for Dominica in that dept. If its not satisfactory we may need to put somebody else in your position because people really have it hard in Dominica. We need jobs we need jobs.

So how did you judge Lennox and his team. What do you know about Lennox except that in less than two years he has changed the pollitical landscape of a Dominica where most people had lost hope…and caused a new wave of quick development from the government when they realized that they were under threat all this ..caused by a man who according to you is not worth consideration.
Sometimes we have to step out of our own conceived biases and see the bigger picture. In your own words the Labour party has failed to provide any economic growth on the island , reducing Dominicans to beggars. Only building a false facade of development on roads and buildings where people can think he is working..while the man on the ground is suffering.

      @Just Blaze,
This is something that some Dominicans do not understand. They want instant gratification. They want something and they want it now. It is not only Dominica which is facing economical problems… Skerrit did not bring Dominica these problems. These are global problems right now. Even the great America has thousands who are unemployed. The numbers are published weekly and it is growing… the world’s giant. So don’t expect Dominica to be complete paradise because if Dominica were in its current situation with the UWP in power, Uwpites would say their party is working. Dominicans need to learn to be appreciative, unbiased and take the time to educate themselves about matters concerning the economy because a lot of the people who are running their mouths are just concerned about what they can get and not how the country can benefit. When workers used to give everyone barrels, galvanize and the like, all workers were happy….. Skerrit did it and its a problem. Well, Obama is having problems as well. Problems that the republicans caused… What Dominicans don’t understand is that some of the problems that UWP put the country in while they were in power, Dominicans and their generations to come will be paying the aftermath for ages to come whether its labour, UWP, freedom or any new party which is there. It’s UWP’s foolishness and selfishness which put us in that mess in the first place. Now, we all need to work hand in hand and appreciate what we have. The other Caribbean islands nearby are not faring out as well as we are right now and no one can deny that!

“I am happy and humbled” – Prime Minister Skerrit

That is the word Mr. Skerrit –the word is “HUMBLED” Why?

Because I know that God, Himself continues to be our Primary Leader in all the Nations–not only or Dominica; accept it or not –He is the One who gives EXALTATION to those who are humble and DAMNATION to those who are proud. For God has said “no flesh” (human being) shall glory in His presence–read the whole thing at 1st Corinthians 1: 26-31

Prime Minster, I say to you, continue with your attitude of humility, for the sake of our Nation, Dominica and her “God fearing people” as you give God the glory –it is not yours to take–your reward is exaltation from Him and Him alone–no man can give this blessed gift to you.

Let God’s Will be done for our Dominica through you and the men and women of your government–as you keep in mind that He is the Primary controller–what God has planned for our country that is what will be done. Blessings!

Elizabeth you are a damn fool, this man Skerrit is a man who believe he is appointed by God to victimized people, and here you are supporting this arrogant self righteous ignorant man. That man believes that he has the power to act as God. He is indeed a god, and that is why so many are suffering in his kingdom! Misery, and hunger overwhelms Dominica, we are in the twenty-fires century yet, people are still walking bare feet in the country, and here you are talking nonsense, just because Skerrit mentioned God, you believe the crap he is talking. The man is a damn dictator, I am telling you I supported him for a long time until I found out his true nature, character, and motives for everything he does!

You sit your Butt, in Canada, you receive a cheque from the government every month, your rent is paid by the Canadian Taxpayers, you can eat stake any time of the day you wish, without going to knock a stroke for any employer. I know you have some medical issues which put you into such position; that is why they have such systems in Canada; and the entire United States. It is not a situation where I am looking down on you; nether do I want anybody to believe I am looking down at you because of your situation. As I said before I had an accident which rendered me demented at one time; I could not remember, hence I lived off disability cheque’s from the State of California for a long time. In Dominica people do not have that kind of privilege. They provide for themselves, or they stave, if they are not helped by some neighbor. This has been going on for years. In my book I have given an account of that. Who would have thought this is an everyday thing in Dominica in the twenty-first century, and has worsened since Skerrit has become Prime Minister of Dominica.

People go to the man, they cry their belly out to him; he pulls a draw out takes a few measly dollars out and hand it them; yes, they survive for the day, or a few days: You who pretend to be a preacher, always talking about God, you should know that the Bible teaches ” by the sweet of thy brow though shall eat bread.” If there are no jobs, how can someone sweet in order to eat. “Give me a fish, I’ll eat for a day, teach me to fish I will eat forever.” How long will the god Skerrit be able to feed all the people he professed to have fed. Secondly, ask yourself what is the source of Skerrit’s resources!

Where is he getting al this money from to feed the people, what is his source?

We know how much honest money he earns from the government treasury; if as many people he claims to have fed, and continue to feed, his honest money cannot support his argument if he makes the claim he is using his personal money! It would be interesting if someone investigate him and the members of his party, if the findings were not thrown out the window, this man would be sitting in jail; what crap are you talking about. You went to Dominica, and get clown to Petter, who I know brainwashed you, and only you know what else; and so you are have become a supporter of these people. Elizabeth, if Skerrit wins this Election, you will shed all the tears your eyes can produce, because Skerrit will take Dominica under the ocean, along with everybody, in the land; unless there is a revolution to remove him.

You said you are going home when you get to be sixty something years old, I guaranty, shortly after you get there you will become the first dead sucooyant who’s body will be found.

    November 10, 2014

As a Dominican I can’t help but wonder what is going on in Dominica. Our beloved PM had to wait for the GRAND MASTER to come to Dominica to anoint him for lhim to call elections. What is Dominica coming to? The island is crawling with evil! I have known Dominicans to be a God fearing people, now they are allowing Skerrit to sell their souls to the devil and this is acceptable!

The man has exaulted himself above everything that is good and righteous now now he wants to say that he is humbled. Come on! why is it only now that he is HUMBLED, he forgot when he told Domincans to mind their damn business. Has he forgotten that he said no law nor constution can stop him and he put Dominicans under dire misery for those five years that he was re elected? Does he even know what humility means? Why after a decade it is only now he wants to be giving out lap to and everything else? Why? Are you telling me Dominicans are so blind and gullible that they will allow this spawn of satan to tkae them for granted again?

Dominican must take stock of their surroundings, look at where skerrit was before he was PM and where is now financially. In that period of time how many Domincans are better off financially? We continue to allow this man to elevate his status every which way, while ours is deteriorating, yet we refuse to see what is happening to Dominica and Dominicans!

My brothers and sisters, fellow Dominicans, we must all hold strong and keep trusting in the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob because we need him more than ever. The devil is on the Ground in Dominica and we cannot allow him to captivate us with he meaningless gifts, only when it is convenient to him.

There are Dominicans who are living abroad and are boasting of going home to vote but I am urging them to think twice before they do that. If things are that good in Dominica, Why not go back home and live? why only go the one day for elections and then leave those Dominicans that are living there in bondage?

Dominicans it is time to wake up from your slumber, it is time to say enough is enough. It is time to tell all corrupt politions that you will not tolerate their incompetence any longer. For once Dominicans, let us show them that we cannot be fooled with meager gifts and empty promises by voting them out of office.

Remember that God is in control and he is watching down on his children. He is telling us that deliverance is just around the corner, have not fear because CHANGE is a must

Change will come to Dominica and the poor in Dominica with THE DLP. We put God first in everything hence the reason for “the GRAND MASTER to come to Dominica to anoint him for lhim to call elections.” Come on believer of God. You are angry that he is becoming rich. Feeding thousands is a crude and sickening allegory to the miracle of Christ feeding the many. Well, Roosevelt, perhaps you did not realise what someone wrote for you to say but Jesus Christ had no bill boards of himself, larger than life size all over the place making his apostles look small, like you. He was a REAL humble man. Brother I will pray for you and our nation.

Look at our roads, schools, bridges, fishermen….etc.. which government has ever done that in the past? People talk about feeling the squeeze, for example, I spoke to someone (single lady) who has a good government job, has built herself a house, owns a vehicle, children go to an expensive school….all this going on one salary, I assume, and yet expect milk and honey to be flowing like when that person had no committments!! Come on, people, you cannot have your cake and eat it. In my opinion, once you have a mortgage and based on the average salary that obtains in this our country, you must experience some level of discomfort, DONT BLAME IT ON THE GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!!!

I had to feed thousands…,” he explained.
This is the kind of mentality one has to deal with because in truth and infact people seem to be really begging this guy and he is loving it.
Maybe just maybe if he would arive at the point and create employment he would not have to feed thousands since they would be able to feed themselves and then he could focus on building a nation. Dominica belongs to us and we “the people” put people in position, so to say “I” is a very wrong thing.
Most politicians always part with their so called wealth. Lets hope that he save some of the millions he has or that he secures he so called “Go To Hell Money”.
What a bunch of losers. Labour party manipulating the less intelligent ones and lennox linton running a broke campaign.
Dominicans are always survivors and that is what keeps us dominicans for we are no longer fortunate to have good leadership

In spite of the chest beating like King Kong that Skerrit is doing the bottom line is Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! Skerrit has created a Welfare State and now he is crying that he has to support all these handout programs instead of creating jobs.
Here are some from the long list of things that DLP promised in the 2005 Manifesto but have not delivered 10years later. Judge for yourself:
    • Having achieved over 3% growth in the economy last year, our task now is to increase and sustain that growth(Has that happened?)
    • Facilitate the creation of 5000 new, sustainable jobs
    • Support the establishment of a financial institution to meet the needs of the Carib Territory
    • Agriculture has been and will remain an important sector in the economy of Dominica. The Labour Party will give it maximum support as a means of providing employment, ensuring food security and earning vital foreign exchange for Dominica
    • Invest in an appropriate vessel for shipping agricultural produce
    • Increase agricultural production in Castle Bruce and caye en Bouc
    • Upgrade the infrastructure for prawn breeding to supply good quality prawns to farmers
    • Construct a culture centre to host cultural events such as Carnival activities and the World Creole Music Festival
    • Establish a drug abuse and alcohol rehabilitation centre to treat persons afflicted with such addictions
    • Establish a National Health Insurance System to provide health insurance and coverage to the public
    • Declare a National Heroes Day to recognize the contributions made by our heroes in all spheres of life: politics, education, arts, culture, sports, entertainment, family life, business
    • Establishment of a special fund at the AID Bank for housing, agriculture, fishing, education and tourism for the Kalinago People($3 million)
    • Construction of a multipurpose hardcourt and Youth center in Bataca
    • Establishment of a home for the elderly(to be managed by the Carib Chief and Council)
    • Introduction of an annual cultural exposition in the Carib Territory
    • We will create a hub for the export of agricultural produce in the North East by including appropriate berthing facilities within the Marigot Fisheries complex
    • Construct the Rosalie to Petite Soufriere road
    • Our pledge to you is to remain committed to the principles of honesty, integrity and responsibility; this we will exercise with concern and fairness for all.

Sir you are indeed a very very foolish person. A lion leading 20 sheep is a sad choice. That lion would lean all these sheep to their deaths. Dominican elections mirrors different everyday aspects of DA society such as a bus ride from Roseau to the country… allow me to explain in simple terms… if you’re on a bus, the bus is running and the engine is nice and hot the vehicle is moving, would you stop it to change the driver midway? Would you change the driver because he/she driver is driving too fast for some, or too slow for others, some will want their windows up, some will want their windows down, the bellerz sitting infront, some getting a free ride because dey pretty, some people foot squeezing, some people doh have money for the ride, the cadek doh even have a seat but he’s helping everybody get situated on the bus, some of us have too much load yet others will make space for us even if we all paying the same price for the ride… some people make mapwi saying that the driver charging more $ than other drivers. Yet when it starts to RAIN heavy everybody on the bus forgets his/her differences and stay quiet because they know the driver needs to concentrate on the road, they don’t want the driver to roll down a precipice, hit another vehicle or get caught in a landslide… now everybody wants the driver to drive slow, everybody closes their windows, everybody starts to pray secretly in their heart for a safe drive, praying they made the right choice for the bus driver to bring them safely home… not one person will argue, attack, or disrupt the bus driver because they know that man and only that man with Gods guidance can bring them home safe… well my friends it’s RAINING hard hard hard in DA, nobody wants to get wet, nobody wants the driver to put them down, and nobody want the bus to stop in the middle of the road, turn off the engine and pick up a new bus driver. A driver that doesn’t know the road or where the bus was headed to try and drive us in this kind of rain!! Changing bus drivers will never stop the rain, knowing your driver is already halfway there, will get you home and that’s what matters HOME. Who will collect the bus fare the new hijacker or the original bus driver. Lennox U DOH READY YET!

But has Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit told us why he called the election. Well here is why we will be voting on Dec. 8:
    1. December is the month we celebrate the birth of Jesus according to apostle Matthew. 1:21 “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus…”

    2. The prophet and Agriculture Minister, Matthew Walter introduced us to another jesus

    3. The prophet Matthew Walter was about to make another announcement that involves his jesus, but in interest of the party, they decided to call the elction first.

    These are my confessions

    These are my confessions
Man I’m thrown and I dont know what to do
I guess I gotta give part 2 of my confessions
If I’m gonna tell it then I gotta tell it all
Damn near cried when I got that phone call
I’m so throwed and I don’t know what to do
But to give you part 2 of my confessions

Now this gon’ be the hardest thing I think I ever had to do
Got me talkin’ to myself askin’ how I’m gon’ tell you
’bout that chick on part 1 I told ya’ll I was creepin’ with, creepin’ with
Said she’s 3 months pregnant and she’s keepin’ it
The first thing that came to mind was you
Second thing was how do I know if it’s mine and is it true
Third thing was me wishin’ that I never did what I did
How I ain’t ready for no kid and bye bye to our relationship
