2 awarded for work as midwives

PRESS RELEASE: On Wednesday 5th May, 2010, the Dominica Nurses Association (DNA) for the first time observed International Day of the Midwife.

The celebration took the form of an award ceremony where two midwives were recognized. Mrs Bernadette John (Ma Benoit) a Kalinago woman from Salybia, was awarded for her invaluable contribution as a chasse femme/traditional midwife to Dominica.

The other awardee was Mrs Eugenia Elwin-former Midwifery Tutor of the Dominica State College – she was awarded for her 27 years  contribution to Midwifery Education in Dominca.

The event took place at the Salybia Health Centre.

Next Wednesday May 12th the DNA will observe its traditional International Nurses Day with a workshop at the Fort Young Hotel.

    Salybia Princess Mrs Bernadette John was shown on TV in Germany and Switzlerland.
    Glad that a lot of my friends and fans got to see it.The award ceremonies in Dominica looked rewarding.
    I would like to congratulate, and say thank you to Mrs Bernadette John and Mrs Eugenia Elwin on their efforts contributing to Dominica.

    I love this gesture. Showing appreciation in a grand style to women who have given so much of themselves. This is the way forward: give recognition where it is due., at the most opportune time. Andto the Dominica Nurses Association: keep on doing an excellent job, keep your heads high!

      Congratulations!! Mrs. Eugenia Elwin on your contribution towards the nursing profession. Job well done, and to Mrs Beniot, you have been a wonderful woman. Thanks to Dominica New online, because I understand that D.B.S. received a news item on that since last week, but never played it, as there was nothing negative about it.
