Dominicans are invited to join Beulah Providence, Patron of the Dominica Cancer Society, on a “Because We Care” fund-raising cruise that arrives in Dominica on April 11. The 10-day cruise starts in Fort Lauderdale on April 7.

On arrival in Dominica, the passengers will participate on island tours before being welcomed to a two-hour “Because We Care” reception at the Windsor Park Stadium. President of the Dominica Cancer Society Mrs Kathleen Jno Baptiste said, “We hope the bus drivers will take the tourists to the Stadium where there will be cultural activities and booths selling cancer-related items.”

Dominicans are asked to support this event by helping in its organization. “We are hoping the whole country will join with us on that day to show that they care. We have lots of activities planned. There is need for many volunteers” says Tina Alexander, fundraising coordinator on the Society’s board of directors.

The cruise dates are from April 7 -17  2014. Prices for the cruise, which is scheduled to visit five Caribbean island, start at US$1,025 for a triple cabin and include all meals and entertainment on board as well as a donation to the Dominica Cancer Society.

In Canada and North America they have National health Insurance Systems . Whilst we don’t we will be helping those people who cannot afford life saving surgery, chemo and radiation. You have a point about education which is why we have been supporting the Ministry of Health and Ross as they supply free prostate and breast exams. For 2014 our focus is cervical cancer we are highlighting. Cancer does not have to kill you . Early Intervention saves lives.

Adults are responsible for themselves and their well-being. Teach the people proper nutrition from youth.
They must eat fruits and vegetables and drink ample water; no pop or very little pop. The best one is ginger ale which is also my favorite if I ever drink pop.
Eat fresh fish a few times a week and very little meat. We do know the latter is expensive.
Avoid canned, packaged and processed foods. These do come in handy during a disaster of any sort especially when there is a power outage. This was recently experienced by many in Ontario.
Live well, happily and peacefully and avoid anxiety and stress if at all possible.
Try to get the required amount of sleep. Keep in mind: “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man/ woman healthy, wealthy and wise.” This should specifically apply to the young ones.
Another matter, practice the faith and be kind to one another.
Those who have computers and Internet can Google relevant health information. It is amazing how much health information there is on the Internet. It appears that nothing was left out from the Internet.

Cancer Society has only been about collecting money for corporate interests. It has nothing to do with solving the cancer dilemma.

Cancer Society is collecting money to pay for treatment and tests for those who cannot afford. Because we know that early intervention saves lives. We are also engaged in raising awareness of free testing available in Dominica and encouraging Dominicans to take care of themselves. If a business is named by us it is because they are genuinely helping our cause often without any immediate return such as Fast Cash or Argos. Norwegian Sun has been chosen by the Because We care Group from Boston and we hope to reach all their passengers with the opportunity to Buy because they care…….

Why does the cancer society focus more on treatment when someone gets cancer instead of focusing on educating ppl and tell them what really causes it and how to prevent it. Yall scare ppl so much about cancer when it can simply be prevented

We have the same problem in Canada which is now spreading to the Caribbean/West Indies – fundraising.
I only give to those whom I feel are deserving of it.
If they could have solved this health problem and people got healed it would have been a long time ago. There is no hope.
Keep your money and take care of your health. No one can do this better than oneself. People have to take charge of their health.
Thought I would mention, a man in Canada, I believe in Winnipeg, recently won approximately $40M in the lottery. I read he donated all of it to the Canadian Cancer Society. He stated that his wife had cancer and she died.
Many of us, if not all of us are not pleased with what he did with all that money. He could have given some of it to a few non-profit organizations which assist the poor, feeding and housing them or give some to people he knows who are in dire need of.
I wonder what this Cancer Society has done with all that money. No doubt, invest it in the Stock Exchange. This is what some of them do with the fundraising money.
I will be honest with you, giving to the Cancer Society is not being charitable. Better to personally help those who are suffering from cancer (also whom you know) in whatever manner possible. This will please the Lord most.

Next is the Aids Cruise. All on the backs of the sufferers. Have we visited them in the hospitals? I have volunteered my time at one hospital, where I saw a man who had breast cancer. I’m putting my money where my MOUT is.
