Dominica is taking a coordinated, prudent and scientific approach to dealing with a matter involving corned beef from Brazil after the government of Jamaica placed an immediate ban on the product due to allegations of meat processors in the South American country selling rotten beef.
“From a Dominica point of view, we are not standing idle,” Director of Trade Matthan Walter told DNO on Tuesday.
On Monday, the government of Jamaica imposed an immediate import ban on corned beef originating from Brazil. The products were pulled from all shelves in Jamaica and the government warned Jamaicans that they should not consume the product until further notice.
According to media reports, the move follows reports from Brazilian authorities that several major Brazilian meat processors have been “selling rotten beef and poultry”. According to the reports, it also alleged that companies have paid hefty bribes to auditors in exchange for fraudulent sanitary licenses.
Walter said authorities in Dominica are aware of the action by the Jamaican government and are taking a “coordinated, yet prudent approach” involving a number of departments.
“We are taking it as a coordinated approach among the Ministry of Agriculture, the Division of Trade, the Custom and Excise Department and Environmental Health Unit,” he stated.
He noted that as soon as all the information concerning the companies that import corned beef products from Brazil, the specific type of corned beef and from which company they come from, action will be swift.
“As soon as we have gotten that information, we will work with Environmental Health to very swiftly get it out of circulation in the market which is what needs to happen …Walter noted. “It supposed to be swift, it will be swift but it also has to be to a large extent prudent and scientific in nature.”
All that scare is simply because people don’t pray before meals. Soon every edible thing will be considered poisonous. Gather all the cans you all are getting ready to throw away; I’ll pass by to collect them. I aint trowing nothing. I give thanks then consume.

People, do you know how much for a tin of corned beef? sometimes as much as $8.00 so why not take this opportunity to save some money. Stop eating those canned meats and stop complaining!!

Here is a simple solution. The gov has halted all import of canned meat and meat products from Brazil in light of the recent information and the ministry of health is looking into any products currently in country for safety. All this exaggerated explanation to say you doing nothing. Only people who lie alot like giving such impressions.
I stopped purchasing any of these types of processed products. I have read too much about them which is discouraging and upsetting.
You will be surprised that some do not take long. I just made my own mayonnaise and tomato ketchup/sauce. I have been doing this for a few years. There are recipes on the internet which you can use and improve to suit your taste.
I have also ceased purchasing minced beef and the likes. If I need to prepare a recipe with minced beef, chicken or turkey, I purchase them and mince them. You could also freeze them.
I hardly purchase anything that is also bottled or canned. We have the ingredients and can make our own.
I love home-made. I am into, making my own.
Get an immersion blender (it does not cost much) which is better/faster for making mayonnaise and to puree the tomato ketchup after it is boiled and cooled with your other ingredients. There are times they may be on sale (Canada, US and Europe).

Walter, here is my advise to you, since you are always running off your mouth about some scientific nonsense; it appears to me as if now that you are an old man you wish you were able to go to college or university to pursue something in the field of some science.
You may not be too late since people can go to college at any age, at least we see that in the more progressive and developed nations, America, Canada, Britain, and all over Europe.
Now since we have a community two year college may you can become an example and enroll there and major in one of the sciences, within two years you should earn a two degree in something, now I do no if your credits will be accepted outside of Dominica, but perhaps it could help you to move onto a four year Univessity or college on to more advance studies, and perhaps earning a BA, BS, MA, maybe a Ph. D. in something, you know how (alyou) in Dominica like to be called doctor!

Mr Telemaque can easily be the smartest person that Dominica has ever produced. He is well trained in every discipline under the sun. Health Science, nature stude, social studies, medicine, geography , math, you name it and he has some knowledge and can hol his own. What prudent coordinated scientific approach can be taken by anybody in Dominica? All you can do in Dominica is; if you believe the canned corn beef from Brazil are contaminated your only alternative is to stop the importation of the product; and suggest people do not buy and eat the product already on the island.
What is scientific about that? If you all cannot diagnose what is causing a stomach pain, in Dominica, you have to ship someone with such complaint to Antigua, what scientific method can you use to identify cooked meat sealed in a can to know if it is contaminated or not?

I’ve been eating such products, since I was a boy (a child) back in Dominica, we eat Exeter corn beef imported from England, no longer in production, we eat Libbes, and Hereford Corned Beef which is the product of Brazil!
Right at this moment I have some in my kitchen, and I tell you what I open the can and simply eat it for breakfast without heating. And we have being doing that for more than fifty years now! If one eat Corned Beef from a damage can, if that meat is exposed to air, it most definitely become contaminated.
And even at that one with intelligence will know if it is contaminated by seeing green mole or there bacteria forming agents. But unless some went wrong and unnoticed during processing it is almost impossible to get poisoned, because before the animals are slaughtered a Veterinary doctor must certify the meat is free of any disease before it can processed and canned, and sold!

Guy if you have never got food poising, don’t wish it on yourself or any one else. I got food poisoned in Louisiana last July, and let me inform you I defecate for three days practically every fifteen minuets, On my way back to Los Angeles, I have to put four under pants, if I could find some diapers, I would bought some.

Stupes ! So is because Jamaica ban it ? We don’t have a public health or veterinary division ? Anyway people shouldn’t eat those canned processed meats. Those are usually produced from the waste during slaughter and are very often from sick animals which the farmers do not want to kill and codemn the carcass. So wat do they do ? They slaughter them before they die from whatever disease they may be suffering from…voila corn beef, sausages, luncheon meat etc.

Tweedledum, it behooves (pun intended) me to inform people of what goes into some of these meats subjected to UHT but by all means indulge in your processed meats…maybe they are what you deserve anyway.
