Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Council on Aging Ophelia Marie says a number of persons will graduate from training as family caregivers on Monday.
Nine two-day training sessions were conducted in the 7th health districts and attracted over 143 participants.
Marie said funds for the training were made possible by the National Authorizing Office of the EU Delegation through the Non-State Actors Advisory Panel.
“The participants will now be better able to take care for the persons that they were taking care of at their various homes. It is a special programme for persons who were taking care of the elderly at their homes so they came with a certain level of experience,” she said
According to Marie, the participants announced that they grew and are now better able to conduct their duties.
“They appreciated better the aspects of food, the aspects of medicine, the need for socializing and chatting,” she said.
The training was conducted by former administrator of the Princess Margaret Hospital Zetma Toussant.
The graduation ceremony is cared for 10:am at the Baracoon building in Roseau.

I would just like to commend Mrs. Ophelia Marie for doing this workshop. It is very important that we know how to take better care of our elderly and how to treat them with respect and dignity. It is also important for us (the caregivers) to help them remain as independent as possible. This will help with their self-esteem and belonging needs.
I am a Certified Home Health Aide and a Certified Personal Care Aide, so I learned alot about caring for the elderly. I am also studying to be a Certified Nursing Assistant and hope to come home in the near future to continue my work with the elderly. They are a wonderful generation with alot of experience and alot of knowledge to offer. I appreciate and admire them.
Again, I would just like to commend Mrs. Marie on a job well done. We should continue to educate the public, especially the youths about caring for and respecting the elderly.
Thank You!
