Health fair in Roseau

DNIA nurses (in yellow) in action

A number of people lined up to participate in a health fair at the All Saints University grounds in Roseau organized by the Dominica Nurses in Action (DNIA) in collaboration with the Dominica State College.

The event is being held to raise awareness of the effects of high blood pressure and sugar on a person’s health.

Treasurer of the DNIA, Miranda Charles-Harris, said this is the first time the organization is doing a health fair in Dominica and said it’s one of the many things DNIA intends to do for the island. “We want to ensure that the people of Dominica understand what blood pressure is, what sugar is and how important it is to continue to monitor it consistently,” she told Dominica News Online.

She said the organization is pleased to serve the Dominican public during the one-day fair.

The fair is expected to end at 5:00 pm on Monday, October 29.

Treasurer Charles-Harris describes DNIA as “an organization of Dominican nurses living in Texas who came back to give back to the community under the organization’s logo, Departed to Learn, Returning to Serve.”

To all Dominican DNIA say thanks for participating in the health fair. Without you it would not have taken place. We hope to repeat this in the near future. Pray for us and I pray that God will continue to look over your health.

Another daughter from South City; It’s good to give back to the island unselfishly. Trust that more nurses will follow that path. Thank you DNIA.
