Official warns against unprotected sex during carnival season

National HIV/AIDS Coordinator Julie Frampton is asking the populace to be on their guards this festive season and take precautionary measures to prevent any sexually transmitted disease, especially HIV/AIDS.

Frampton, in an interview with Dominica News Online, said usually from a national standpoint, persons have been reminded that their sexual health is their responsibility but this caution must be echoed louder during festive times.

“During this carnival season we want to ask people to be selfish with their sexual health. We want to remind persons that they shouldn’t leave their sexuality in the hands of someone else. People may come from overseas, they may have US dollars and they will make all kinds of promises, but you need to remember that HIV is real, its true and it can happen to you,” Frampton said.

According to Frampton, while abstinence is best there are persons who feel they cannot say no, so the use of a condom is essential.

“It’s okay to say no and be selfish with their bodies, but if you feel you cannot say no, the wisest thing to do is use a condom. Protection is a must,” she asserted.

She noted that loose sexual behavior usually increases when alcohol is served  in a festive atmosphere.

Frampton warned  persons  not  to destroy their entire future for one night of fun.

To my young females in my beloved Dominica please during this carnival do not accept drinks from anyone you do not know. During this time the predetors prey on young women who drinks and behaves in manner that they would not normally if in their right mind. Remember Aids and Hiv along with all other STDS are real, real, real so please be safe and remember that after carnival there is life.
