HIV/AIDS testing attracts many youths

The National HIV/AIDS Prevention Unit in association with ScotiaBank is currently conducting a series of on-site rapid testing island-wide.

Coordinator of the National HIV/AIDS Unit Julie Frampton said today’s event was a success.

According to her, a considerable amount of persons walked in and got tested today.

She said they will get their results within an hour.

“The responses from the public have been good. A lot of young people are getting tested. We have more people that we cater for. It’s amazing,” she said.

Frampton noted that on a normal basis the results would usually take several weeks but the National HIV/AIDS unit is trying to change that.

“Persons will come in, get their blood drawn and then conduct their counseling and have their results,” she added.

The activities will continue this week in Grand Bay and La Plaine.

Not enough is said in praise of the health care workers in the battle against the AIDS epidemic.

Those behind the scenes engaged in reasearch, those working in the clinics and labs, doctors and nurses, special educators, all those who are contibuting and pulling together to make AIDS history deserve to be congratulated.

The drop-clinics where people can be tested are incredibly important. It is fear that keeps people from getting tested. Those working in these clinics must be able to set their clients minds at ease when they walk in. If they can let people know they are coming into a non-judgmental and non-threatening atmosphere it will go a long way. Confidentiality is a big concern. I think it is important to be perfectly up front with potential clients and let them know who will be given the results of the testing.

More needs to be done to inform the public about the progress that has been made in the treatment of HIV. If more people knew the treatments that are available and how effective they are it would reduce the fear and encourage them to get treated.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

To those who partook in this testing, I must commend you for doing so. Know your status. And plz, just because you have been given the good news, do not forget that a negative result does not last a lifetime. Continue to protect yourselves or abstain. It only takes ONCE to change that outcome!

One concern though is that most of these people who volunteer to get tested are almost certain that they are not infected whereas those who have doubts tend to shy back and ignore it for fear of having to know or have others know. This approach is so self-destructive as well as selfish. Yes, it is indeed embarassing having to know that someone else knows and may allow someone else to know. Nonetheless, you may be depriving yourself of pschological counselling as well as physical treatment that can prolong your life. You may also be infecting others in a “not-so-conscious” way. You may be indecisive, fearful, ashamed but it is better to live with yourself knowing and taking appropriate actions and changing your sexual behaviours thannot having tried.

So what is this saying about our youths?…..who by the way, are suppose to abstain….it means that the echo of abstainance and perservation until marriage aint working…..Thats what we as a country need to focus on….still yet, i understand Mrs. Fampton, we cannot fool ourselves, right??

Abstinance worked for hundreds of years. Yes, occasionally an unmarried girl got pregnant. But it was not frequent enough to create a social problem.

In those days AIDS was unknown. Other sexual diseases existed but they were not epidemic.

Then came the “sexual revolution” in the mid 1900’s. It became the new cool to be “non-judgmental”. This was fed by an exploding porn industry, and followed by the the “gay revoluton”
bringing the USA and Canada, along with much of Europe to the brink.

We don’t need sex education specialists running from school to school teaching the students how to fornicate and bugger each other without getting pregnant or catching a sexually transmitted disease.

In Canada a boy – an elementary (pre-high school) student – came home from school one day and told his parents “Today we learned all about being gay. The teacher told us how to come out.” The same week a girl also in a pre-high school grade announced to her parents “Today they showed us how to put a condom on a banana. We also learned all about lesbians.”

What else is happending in Canada? Teachers have been known to tell their classes “If you think this lesson would be upsetting to your parents it might be better if you don’t tell them.” We need godly teachers in the schools (whose lives are an example). Let them teach the students God’s moral code. It is called “chastity” although some call it “abstinance”. It says:

      No sex before marriage.

No sex after marriage with anybody other than your legallly married husband or wife.

No sex with a person of your own gender. God (in the Bible) calls this an “abominaton” right alongside beastility.

No pornography. Not before marriage. Not after marriage. No, not even beteen a husband and his wife.

God’s moral code should be taught by parents in the homes, and by teachers in the schools, and preached by pastors in the churches.

If we cannot get the teaching of Biblical morality back in the schools (I say “back” because in some places they once had it) there are two options. Some parents are home educating their children. There is an altertnative to this. Let Bible believing evangelical churches become strong enough to push the envelope for private Christian schools where JESUS IS LORD!

On a more positive note I am glad to be able to say both these things – home schooling and private Christian schools are working in Canada.

It’s time for pastors to get out of their comfort zones and take responsibility for being God’s watchmen on the wall.

      Pastor:

“If you oppose every evil but the evil that is current you are failing your generation.” (Author Unknown.)

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.
