A healthy baby competition, a competition for patients who have been able to control their blood pressure and sugar and a competition for the obese diabetics were some of the highlights of a health fair hosted by the Roseau Health Center on Friday.

The fair  was geared at promoting health and wellness amongst the Dominican public and to emphasis the quality of service offered by the health center, team leader Dr. Phillip St Jean told DNO.

“Many of the services offered will be on display today including high blood pressure control, diabetes control, diabetic foot care, well baby competition, weight and cholesterol. We have a display of a number of booths that display the various services that we offer here,” Dr St Jean noted.

He added that the fair is important because it higlights continuous efforts of the Roseau health district to promote healthy living in Dominica.

“In light of the high prevalence of non-communicable diseases, we are promoting healthy living so as to encourage the population at large to take control of their health and by extension in the future we will be able to control or minimise the effects of these non-communicable diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes, prostate cancer, and breast cancer,” he stated.

Dr. St Jean stated that these competitions were meant to give the people some form of encouragement to continue living healthy lives and to encourage others to do the same.
