Seventh Day Adventists tackle non communicable diseases

East Caribbean Conference of Seventh –day Adventists has said it will be designating 2012 as the year for special emphasis on health as it responds to the problem of chronic non communicable diseases.

The Theme for the year is: “HEALTHY LIVING THE KEY TO PREVENTION, REVERSAL AND CONTROL OF CHRONIC DISEASE”.

The official launch of the year will take place on Saturday, January 28 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium beginning at 9am -5.30pm with a lunch break at 1pm.

Organizers of the event said the featured speaker for the day is Dr. David Williams from Boston, who is originally from the neighboring island of St. Lucia. Dr. Williams is a graduate of  Caribbean Union College, now USC in Trinidad, Andrews University and Loma Linda university. He received his PhD degree in sociology from the university of Michigan

Currently he is the Florence and Laura Norman Professor of Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health and a Professor of African and African American studies and of sociology at Harvard University.

The time table for his presentations are as follows:

-Saturday morning: “Where are the Miracles of Healing?”

-Saturday afternoon: “Simple Secrets to Prevent, Control and even Reverse Diabetes”

He will also show parts of the film “Forks over Knives” which features doctors that changed the life of President Bill Clinton.

On Sunday (January 29) evening he will make a presentation on  “Religion, Spirituality and Emotional Health: Research Findings” at the Roseau Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Minister of Health Julius Timothy is also expected to address the function.

    The Lord servants is at work.
    My wife who is also Dominican is a nutritionist in Canada has beat diabetes following the CHIP program with exercise so it’s a joy to see similar things happenning back home in Dominica.
