Two prominent Dominican women, Kalinago Chief Anette Sanford, and Olympic gold medalist Thea Lafond-Gadson, have been mined as speakers for the 9th Annual Growth and Resilience Dialogue, happening in St Kitts & Nevis. The event, hosted by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, takes place from April 10-11.
Sanford presented her keynote on the first day, on the topic: The wisdom and wealth in passing down our stories, followed by a Q&A session. Lafond-Gadson is billed for the second morning and will be discussing OECS sports development as part of her “Riverside chat”, Going for Gold – Strategic Development and Investments in Sports in the OECS.
The ECCB and its partners, the OECS, UWI, and World Bank have settled on the theme “In Pursuit of Extraordinary Excellence” for this year’s Dialogue. Described as “driven by continuously unlearning and relearning”, the event brings together personalities, luminaries, and experts from across the region to explore various aspects of what is termed the “growth mindset.”
Organizers point out that this is in alignment with ECCB Governor Timothy Antoine’s “Big Push” challenge, driving home the question: “What would it take to double the GDP of the region?”
Throwing down the gauntlet, “The Big Push calls for us to leapfrog to achieve extraordinary accomplishments that can translate into growth. In the region leapfrogging demands unlearning to learn and adopting new skills, new thinking and new arrangements that can redound to the benefit of the region’s economy and people,” states the event website.
Sanford and Lafond-Gadson, distinguished in their respective fields, join the likes of popular St Lucian historian and creator, Fiona Compton of “Know Your Caribbean”, as presenters.
