Hon. Kozier Frederick reports on solutions outlined at UNEA-6

Cozier Frederick addressing Friday’s press conference

Minister of Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment, Kozier Frederick has announced that the recently concluded United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6), held at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya highlighted a number of resolutions and decisions on environmental issues.

He made the announcement during a press conference held at the conference room of the Forestry and Wildlife Division on Friday.

The UNEA-6 took place from  February 26 to March 1, 2024.

The session focused on how multilateralism can help tackle the triple planetary crisis on climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste.

As the world’s top decision-making body on the environment, UNEA aims to help restore harmony between humanity and nature, improving the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people.

“…The outcome of the 6th session of the United Nations [UN] general assembly included a number of resolutions and also a number of decisions on various environmental issues,” Frederick said. “We are talking about issues like biodiversity, pollution, climate change and sustainable consumption and production.”

According to Frederick, these outcomes typically reflect agreements by member states on actions to address the global environmental challenges.

He pointed out that some of the key outcomes from the conference were discussions on adoption of resolutions and policy guidance.

“The assembly provided policy guidance to member-states on addressing emerging environmental challenges, especially as we seek to achieve our sustainable development goals SDGs by 2030,” he explained.

Furthermore, Frederick said there was commitment and pledges from various governments, international organizations and other stakeholders present at the conference.

“The pledges were made on specific actions to combat climate change, waste management [and] all these issues that affect us,” he revealed. “We were also able to launch a number of initiatives and programs.”

Frederick went on to state that within the construct of the UNEA-6  a number of reports were reviewed, “and we looked at a number of assessments that were presented on the state of the environment.”

This he said includes scientific findings and also a number of positive recommendations for actions by the various countries.

Meanwhile, Frederick said Dominica is aiming to become the first climate resilient country, “this is because we are vulnerable to the impact of climate change.”

“By prioritizing resilience, we as a government seek to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change and this will ensure safety and sustainability of our citizens, but also of our infrastructure,” he noted.

The UNEA-6 was preceded by a meeting of the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives held from February 19 to 23, 2024, which helped lay the groundwork for the Assembly.

You must agree to everything, it’s the New World Order. If you don’t you are labeled a rebel (enemy) and your boss put on a sh*t list for a coup.
These meetings are distractions to take your focus off the fact that you signed on to the WTO to have Canada, US, England France subsidize their farmers whereas they made it against international law for you to subsidize your farmers/agriculture. More you agree, the more AID your boss gets to run the country, it might not be best in the long run. 8)

Sorry Sir, but what’s most important to the Dominican honest people is ELECTORAL REFORM. And no one has to fly thousands of miles to achieve this very fundamental right of the people. Labor party must adhere to the people’s demands. So get to work. I would resign from any political party that doesn’t want electoral reform in Dominica. So all these trips here and there is Bull S%!+ and wasting time and money that the country doesn’t have.

We do not have a sitting government and our government is not involved in politics at all.

Mr Fredrick, let me congratulate you on being one of the only current ministers to report to the country on trips overseas. I applaud you profoundly and hope that you will be able to convince your colleagues to do likewise. My only dissappointment with your report is that it’s too general :should contain more specific details. Could information be provided as to where this is available so that one may read for one’s self?
    Respectfully submitted.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1
