Dr. Caressa Etienne inaugurated as PAHO Secretary General

Dr. Etienne taking the oath of office

Dominican, Dr. Caressa Etienne, has taken the oath of office as  the Secretary General of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) at a ceremony in Washington DC.

US Secretary of Health Kathleen Sebelius, during an address to the ceremony, said Dr. Etienne will show leadership at the organization. “I have no doubt that under her leadership PAHO will remain an effective vehicle to building a collaborative global approach to public health and addressing our shared challenges,” she said.

She said the United States looks forward to working with Dr. Etienne “as we continue to seize opportunities on behalf of all those we serve together.”

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit described the inauguration as “a proud day for Dominica.”

PM Skerrit addressing the ceremony

“Although Dominica is among the smallest countries in the Pan American Health Organization system, this ceremony underscores that we are capable of producing individuals who can contribute effectively at all levels to our wider hemisphere,” he said while addressing the inauguration.

He said Dr. Etienne embodies the best characteristics of Dominica and a readiness to rise above the “limits of the island of which she was born, while at the same time retaining its value of diligence, scholarship, humility in service and instinctive quality and care for all humanity.”

Dr. Carressa Ettiene congratulation to you for your great achievement and for making Dominica and the Caribbean sooo proud, thanks alot! What i don’t get with our Dominican people is nonesense like Hunter hands and rubish like mass domnique is getting more comments than something like what sister Ettiene did with the help of the Prime minister and others that helped to make this a reality.

Carissa, you have done it all the way. A diligent and serious-minded person, you deserve this esteem. Your family is obviously proud of you. You have made all Dominicans proud, a model and one who especially the youths should emulate. God bless you in all your endeavors.

Another example of our journalism. Can you at least check the spelling of the doctor’s name before writing the article. I am sure she is happy for the praise, but must be disgusted that her name is spelled incorrectly.

Cease your critic. Everyone makes mistakes. A typo. Overlook it. I read the article with interest. This is what it is about and what I noticed.

Wish Dominica as a Nation would have that kind of Standing bringing forth Success Stories in a Collective Manner as a Nation…

Dominica has over the Years seen quite a few of It’s Nationals reach the Top in many fields..

Sadly though the island citizens still remain Highly Ignorant which is of Alarming Concern to The International Arena…
