A war of words and allegations broke out today (March 5, 2013) via social media, between a well-known Dominican born artiste and the Portsmouth-based charity group ‘Inside Possie Children of Grace Foundation Inc.’
The controversy stems from the alleged failure of the artiste, Floyd Challenger aka ‘Mr. Challenger’ to honor a commitment he made to visit a disabled young girl in Portsmouth named Judy Sango.
The dispute was initially made public in a video posted on the website www.insidepossie.com and distributed on Facebook.
In the video the charity’s founder, Drinnon Keyondre, alleges that Mr. Challenger failed to show up at a much-anticipated meeting with the child on Sunday January 27, 2013. Instead, he was reportedly spotted partying at the opening parade of Portsmouth Carnival, which took place on that same day.
The video alleges that Mr. Challenger’s local promoter, Alvin Alexander, was also to blame for the missed appointment.
But Challenger’s Management Team and Alexander have offered quick and dismissive rebuttals of the claims made in the video.
In a lengthy letter, which was distributed on Facebook mere hours after the release of the video, Mr. Challenger’s Management team, Tribal Services, claimed that the missed appointment was simply due to a breakdown in communication, and from being unable to contact Mr. Keyondre in order to locate the venue for the meeting.
The letter states: “On January 27th coupled with a multiplicity of issues faced by the artiste and agents, the artiste was still adamant and made every effort to meet with Judy and her family. Upon communication with Mr Keyondre, he was informed that the team was running late and should be leaving from Mahaut shortly. The artiste accompanied by his agent did arrive in Portsmouth sometime after 4:00 pm by which time three calls were made driving through to update Mr Keyondre on location and also to request of him directions to the meeting area, all this after being initially told by Mr Keyondre on the initial call that the lateness could impede the possible meeting. Upon arrival in Portsmouth, another call was made to Mr Keyondre and that again proved futile. Such being the case and having not received a return call, the Artiste and agent proceeded to form part of the Opening events of the Portsmouth Carnival.”
Alexander, for his part, also offered a defense of his role in the controversy. He reproached the Inside Possie executive for publishing a video without first consulting him, and claimed that there were several inaccuracies in the video report.
“Not only were you responsible to follow up with us as you claimed that we did not with you …Barring the fact of our attempts, but if you had any ethics in the work that you do then before publishing a video that has now hurt the plight of Judy in our thoughts and application of a means to assist and in so many other ways, then you having had all our contact information as local agent would reach us,” Alexander said.
The young lady mired in the center of this brewing controversy, Judy Sango, was featured in a Dominica News Online article last year, as part of a drive by the Inside Possie Foundation to fund a documentary to raise awareness of her plight.
Sango is currently wheel-chair bound due to serious leg problems she has faced from birth.

This is one sided. And sounds like it should be investigated properly. Did you guys given reach out to the other parties Mr Challenger and Alvin Alexander. You can’t just go by what this family is saying. I work in the media and who over cover this story has some facts they have to uncover. I was told Mr.Challenger came to Dominica on his own with no plane ticket from this organization, no contract as well. Please do your homework before airing this rubbish. Eastern Carribean people should unite not bring other’s down. This would have been a better story if you would have got both parties involved then have them speak on it. In all honesty, i seriously think this thing went too far. A simple means of communication could have resolved this whole issue without making it so public. First of all i do not quite understand when IndiePossie representatives said that Mr. Challenger used Miss Sango’s disability for some form of publicity. Now hold up, if you all didn’t do that video or make this whole thing so public probably 3/4 of the people who commented still wouldn’t know who Mr. Challenger is. Although i wouldn’t say that he is an ‘international artist’ this is a young man who is trying to promote and make a name for himself and kudos to you guys you all have boosted him a bit. For argument sake the guy was out partying and did not show up. People two wrong don’t make a right, if you want to truely help the young girl as you claim this would not have been the avenue. Too often we all allow emotions to get in the way..lack of respect and integrity is what drives people from showing full support. Sometime we too ready to throw stones without reflection. This attack on the character and intention of the artist is unprofessional and naive. There are so many factors in play here… i.e.. Inside Possie does not indicate that they made any attempt to contact the artist after the failed meeting. I in my professional undertakings have had many cancelled meetings, notified or otherwise. We all know the circumstances and outcome of the “Portsmouth Reunion”

seems like they’re claiming that the artiste claimed publicly to be supporting/affiliated to the charity in order to raise their own profile. But they are inadvertently raising his profile further by mounting this campaign against him. I suppose the aim is to show him in a negative light but personally it just makes me wonder(a little) who this artiste is. Young Judy will no doubt have many more and greater disappointments in her life and I think it was a shame that she was encouraged to to be part of that video despite her disappointment.

1st of all that’s not proffessional on both sides. As said Mr challenger wasnt the one who promised a reunion that didnt happen. If both parties wanted the representation to happen and be successful they both should have contacted each other. The artist and management said they tried reaching out several times and no answer, when Drinnon stated he refused to contact them, yet he told them from now on he has nothing to do with that, contact the family on their own, what kinda of proffessionalism is that? Who is to be blamed? Now since me and alot of ppl didn’t know about this incident till now, I’m trying to understand how did the artist used the possie foundation for personal fame and media attention. Did the artist come to Dominica on behalf of them or Did he come to take part in the carnival celebration?? The scheduled time of this presentation was last year for Portsmouth Reunion, he did not promise anything, he was asked to make a contribution. So Mr.Drinon need to come clean if he trying to make him self look good it’s not good. Also you cant ask an artist to come down and you are not paying his way, the Reunion was not organized properly, contact was attempted several times by the Mr.Challenger team and no one made an effort to get back in touch. Contact was made to Mr. Samuel and he clearly said he was no longer part of that committee so i don’t see why he is talking on video in the first place. Information was asked about the little gurl no one could give information. Dominicans don’t go by a one side story, Carnival 2013 Mr Challenger came went to Dominica on his time, for his personal promotion towards his recent music releases. According to the video, how long does it take from Mahaut to Portsmouth? from 12 you got to Portsmouth at 4pm. oh please. Everyone in Portsmouth knows Drinnon, so that is no excuses. So true, It takes less than an hour to get to Possi from Mahaut, and it is very easy to get Drinnon or to get the destined meeting place. Possie is not that big, and indeed EVERYONE in Possie knows Drinnon.
