Dr. Montgomery Douglas is the new chair of the Department of Family Medicine at UConn Health. He will also serve as professor of family medicine at UConn School of Medicine.
“We are so pleased to have an esteemed leader in the field of family medicine such as Dr. Douglas join our UConn Health family and share his specialized expertise with our patients and communities of Connecticut,” said Dr. Bruce T. Liang, dean of UConn School of Medicine.
In addition, Douglas will chair the family medicine service at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, and the Family Medicine Center at Asylum Hill, Inc. in Hartford.
“I am excited to be joining UConn Health and Saint Francis to grow the clinical services of the important, growing field of family medicine,” said Douglas. “I look forward to offering our patients and community members comprehensive and personalized, patient-centered care to prevent disease, and improve their overall health and outcomes.”
Douglas joins UConn Health from New York Medical College, where he has been chair of family and community medicine for the last nine years. At NYMC he is credited with more than doubling the family medicine faculty and significantly expanding the number of family medicine residents. Also, as associate dean for diversity and inclusion at NYMC, the percentage of underrepresented minority students in the first year class increased from 10 percent to 27 percent, the highest in the nation among majority-Caucasian medical schools.
Douglas has been recognized with more than a dozen awards in his field of family medicine over the years, including the New York State Academy of Family Physicians Family Practice Educator of the Year Award in 1997. In addition, he has been active in his specialty’s societies, including as past chairman of the Board of the New York State Academy of Family Physicians. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Family Medicine, where he chairs the Maintenance of Certification Committee.
After studying just three years at the University of Hartford, Douglas enrolled into Cornell University Medical College in 1982. While at Cornell, he returned a year later to graduate from the University of Hartford, summa cum laude. After receiving his medical degree, he completed his family medicine residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Highland Hospital in upstate New York.
Douglas is from Portsmouth.
Dr Montgomery Douglas is the last son of Bernadette and Robert.B.Douglas of Portsmouth ,Dominica.
Congratulations Monty .You make us proud, as Dominicans and members of the Douglas family. May God continue to bless your efforts.
A Douglas is not difficult to pinpoint.
Monty, there is no doubt you have studied and worked hard to arrive at this milestone. I feel this is not the end. There is more to come and higher in your career.
You are a model to the youths especially our Dominican youths. You have projected studies, diligence and perseverance win in the end. I know this was not without some degree of self-sacrifice.
Congratulations to you and wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.
God bless you!
He is our PM blood cousin. Great minds think alike. 2 great doctors. Dr, PM and Dr. Douglas.
I heard of him many years ago from his niece (lyn Douglas) my best friend. Way to go Mr Douglas. Very smart family and it looks like all of them look alike. I almost take him for Mark Douglas, his brother.
Congratulations Dr God bless you .
His father was Rober B. Douglas therefore Rosie , Michael, Isinhower, Washway Tingale, Elenore(Lamert), etc. are all his s i.blings
Congratulations to Mr. Montgomery Douglas on his achievement.
Ok Monty I see you man !!!!! hey this is great- What do you think RBD, Mike and Rosie would say if they were still with us?
Which Douglas was his Dad? Mike?
Mike and Rosie was his brother. His father was Robert Bernard Douglas.
His Dad is Robert Bernard Douglas (RBD), now deceased. Also, he is the brother of former PM Roosevelt (ROSIE) Douglas as well as Michael Douglas, former MP for the Portsmouth Constituency.
He is Mike and Rosie’s brother.
RBD
If I am not mistaken his father was R.B. Douglas. He is Roosie’s brother. The Douglas family is a big one – many children.
I think he is called Monti. He resides in Connecticut, USA.
I am only seeing this now. It is a bit too late to telephone his sister who resides in Ontario. Strange, today I thought of calling her and decided I would do so tonight but here I am on DNO. Will confirm it with her on Saturday.
He is Mike’s Brother. I think he is the last sibling
Spoke to a member of his family. He is as I stated. The Douglases are intelligent people. He has followed in the family name’s footsteps and have done well.
Not all of them are intelligent Facts!
Would you consider Ian Douglas an intelligent person (A man who cannot even spell cold). One time I had to inform that boy that there is a difference in the word ” cole” cold!
Some good news coming out of Dominica for a change. Congratulations to him and the family
Even if he has a name Douglas, which is an abomination, and a disgrace brought on that family by such as the late Rosie Douglas, and that so called big eye Ian Douglas who’s eyes are bulging out of his head as if he has an over-active thyroid.
Douglas’s such as that Douglas and the Douglas in Dominica who change his name to Behanzin; don’t believe I spelt that correctly; in any event the lawyer; and I am not talking about play lawyer Ian Douglas has saved the day!
Guys like him who are scientifically and academically educated are the ones our nation should respect, and honor, and celebrate. He is a “real medical doctor:” He is a real MD in the flesh; he treated a very close biological relative of mine in a New York hospital years ago, and she was satisfied with his service and professionalism!
He was not anxious to see her merchandise:
Hahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahhhhh!
If he did; I would be told! Honor and respect I bestow on you; your degree is real not a…
Doc would you come to Dominica full time to help your country man for much less money??
Once they taste those countries with such a job, benefits, recognition and status they will not, at least return soon. Consider his salary. He just received this new posting so be assured that he will be in the US for a while. He is settled there for now. Probably when he retires, if he decides, he may return.
I do not want to give myself away and for good reasons. One of my family members is a medical doctor for now. He studied abroad and is still living there. I recently saw him and asked if he will return to Dominica. He said no. They love working overseas and enjoy it.
Throughout the years Dominica has lost a lot of brains. It is called brain drain.
Facts, if he was in Dominica, he might be treated the same way as they treated Dr. Sam Christian.
Look at it this way the late Roosevelt “Rosie” Douglas former prime minister of Dominica son in the person of the one that I have problems spelling his changed name.
In event he was a magistrate trained in law in England, Skerrit kicked him around like a football refused to renew his contract, as a magistrate, and gave the job to a damn foreigner. Which professional in their right mind would return to Dominica under normal circumstance unless they wish to retire to suffer humiliation at the hands of Skerrit.
What you do not know Dominica has enough medical doctors much better than all the Cuban train doctors put together who can serve Dominica safer, and more efficiently than what we have now. Among them are relatives of mind. Both lawyers, and doctors!
That guy is a very good medical doctor, as I said in another post he treated a relative of mine, very effectively
Congratulations, Monty! No surprise. Since from Form 3C at DGS we saw this coming.
Congratulations Monty. Continue to make your family, Portsmouth and Dominica proud. Keep up the great work that you are doing and may Jah continue to bless and keep you.
#OLD
