An entrepreneur from the eastern community of Good Hope will be hosting a pastry expo this Sunday, July 26, in her attempt to kill a few birds with one stone.
Edillia Lewis, who is based in St Thomas, United States Virgin Island (USVI), said it is her goal to construct a bakery in Good Hope and she intends to utilize the event to promote and showcase her own pastry skills, along with other members of the community who would like to be part of the event.
Dubbed, “Dil’s Pastry Expo,” the event will be held at the Good Hope Resource Center and will kick off at 1:00 pm and ends at around 7:00 pm with musical entertainment provided by Dj Athie.
There will be 20 volunteers taking part and they will be selling tickets to the event which cost $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years of age.
There will be free sampling of the various pastries and if patrons are impressed, they can make purchases to go along with hot or cold beverages that will also be on sale.
Lewis sees this event as a way of giving back as some of the proceeds will go towards the community.
“One student of the San Sauveur Primary School will receive a donation from a raffle kept at the expo,” she revealed.
There will be entertainment for children to include face painting, water games and envisages.
The event is described as one for the entire family.
“I came up with the idea to use my summer vacation to give back to my community,” Lewis explained.
She said she has a part-time pastry business at her home in St. Thomas and many of her friends and relatives in Dominica wanted to sample her products.
“So from last year December I came up with the idea to showcase my talent,” she noted.

Why don’t you just wish her good luck in her venture. This is a good idea and I hope it is successful.
Good luck my dear.
Because ‘luck’ doesn’t buy you anything.
Good going Edilia! all the best. More DOminicans overseas must give back to their communities and create employent small as it may
Moi yes I agree with you in principle concerning overseas Dominicans returning home to start a business, but do you know how difficult that can be. I am speaking from personal experience,a large number of dominicans do not have the work ethics, they are unreliable and are not honest when it comes to handling money. Nevertheless, I wish this young lady good luck in her endeavours.
