Former Deputy Police Chief, Hildreth Lorden Doctrove, has passed.
Doctrove, who was nicknamed ‘Chung,’ died at about 7:00 pm on Thursday at his Green’s Lane family home with his wife of close to seven decades, Clothilda, at his side.
According to family members he was “low for the past few days, not eating or taking anything and about two hours before he died, he was anointed by his priest.”
Doctrove’s health quickly deteriorated after they temporarily moved from their home which needed repairs, DNO understands.
The family returned to the house about a month ago.
Doctrove was the father of former international cricket Umpire, Billy Doctrove, cricket commentator, Chauser Doctrove, and faithful caretaker, Fitzroy Doctrove.
In addition to being deputy police chief, Doctrove served Dominica in many capacities, and was hailed by many as “a strict disciplinarian.”
He served as Justice of the Peace, coroner, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, a National football referee, National Cricket Selector. He also represented Dominica as a footballer.
One family member, Chauser Doctrove, told DNO that he his father lived “a full life, he played his part.”
He said that they family is coping.
“We have always been close as a family, so we are using that closeness to support one another,” he said.
I stated nothing but the previous picture was not presentable. It was upsetting to look at it and obviously made those as I who viewed it very sad. I suppose this is what the family could get at that time.
This is a better picture. He looks like a Doctrove in this one.
Rest in peace!
RIP Sir…my condolences to the family…may God be with you in your time of need…
Dear Mrs. Doctrove, Chaucer, Roy, Billy and your extended families,
On behalf of my family and myself, I offer you our sincerest condolences on the pasing of Mr. Doctrove. He was a very nice man, community-minded, God-fearing and always had encouraging words for us. He was especially thrilled to learn my brother Tony is a police officer – now Staff Sargeant in Toronto and never failed to ask about his well-being whenever I was visiting Dominica. Having him as a neighbor made us all feel safe because he looked out for all of us. You have served us well Mr. Doctrove (Docky as we fondly called him), now it is time for your rest. May you rest in peace.
My sincere condolence to the Doctrove family…Billy i Thank you for the warm hospitality you extended to me, when Washbourne Cuffy and i visited your home. Any assistance i can provide, PLEASE feel free to contact me, [email protected].

My condolences to the Doctrove Family. He was my Godfather and cousin. I remember him taking me for a swim with an injured wrist. He told me lay the wrist on his head to keep it out of the water. I will never forget you Uncle Chong! Rest in perfect peace!
Your Kaw! (Karen Fingal)
DNO, I would wish to have the last impression of the Honorable gentle man in a more upright and distinguish image, it is sad to see this picture.
I know that is the reality, but all we have now is his memories.
On this note, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to his children and family.
May your soul rest in peace SIR.
Admin: We have asked the family for another photograph which they have promised to end to us.
Chaucer, Billy, Roy continue to take care of the special Queen. I remembered my visits chatting with and receiving doses of wise counsel from this special couple. My sympathies to the family and friends.
May the family have peace in these hard times. What about his older kids Vernon and Alethea Doctrove
Mr. Doctrove was part of a great legacy in police discipline. His generation stood for duty and country thus ensuring an orderly Dominica. May those police officers who come behind him, and others like him, strive to emulate service and good order. To the Doctrove family we extend our heartfelt condolences. May his soul rest in peace.
My condolences to the family.
Some-one would like to request a nicer photo for this “good citizen,” Mr.Doctrove.After reading this request, my thoughts went strait to this Gospel song “BE IN TIME”
Life at best is very brief,
Like the falling of a leaf,
Like the binding of a sheaf,
Be in time.
Fleeting days are telling fast
That the die will soon be cast,
And the fatal line be passed,
Be in time.
Be in time…..Be in time……
While the voice of Jesus calls you,
Be in time
If in sin you longer wait
You may find no open gate,
And your cry be just too late.
Be in time.
FAIREST FLOWERS soon decay,
YOUTH and BEAUTY pass away,
Oh,you have no long to stay,
Be in time.
While God’s Spirit bids you you come,
Sinner, do no longer roam,
Lest you seal your hopeless doom,
Be in time.
Friends sooner or later it will be our turn to leave planet earth.
Then what?
God has called him to his eternal rest and peace.
Heartfelt sympathy to the Doctrove family.
In sympathy for your loss,
In understanding of all you must be going through.
In hope that you are doing as well as can be expected at this difficult time.
May God comfort you and strengthen you in your sorrow.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen!
