Former West Indies cricketer, Adam Sanford and wife Julenta are continuing in their efforts to give back to the Dominican community.
Following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika, which severely damaged the country on August 27, the two, who resides in New York, came home to provide relief to those affected.
The two, who are presently on vacation in Dominica, will be hosting a luncheon for the elderly at the Salybia Primary School on Sunday afternoon for the elderly from Petite Soufriere to Concord.
Sanford told Dominica News Online on Friday that the idea for the event came about after he traveled back to New York following the distribution of relief supplies in Dominica in the wake of Erika.
“I was down there a few weeks ago doing some relief for the victims of Tropical Storm Erika,” he explained. “So after I went back home, my wife and I, after witnessing what that had happened in Dominica we decided to come back and try to do something.. We decided to have a luncheon for the elderly, for the villages between Petite Soufriere, all the way to Concord area with the assistance of the different groups in the Kalinago area and Petite Soufriere.”
He said so far with the assistance of the different village councils and the different groups everything for the event is going well.
“With their help so far we have everything pretty much underway,” Sanford stated.
Julenta Sanford told DNO that it is actually a good feeling to give back to the community.
“Wednesday we made a US$1,000 distribution to the Coulibistrie School towards rebuilding,” she stated. “We went and look at the school ourselves and saw the condition of everything. It’s a small contribution, but we hope it can go to something worthwhile. It’s an awesome feeling and the bigger blessing is just being able to do…we benefited from our communities and it’s an opportunity to give back.”
The Atlantis Cricket Club and Calvary Mission in New York assisted in making the luncheon possible.

That’s the kind of contribution that the Secretary General designate of the Commonwealth should have given instead of telling us to suck salt.

Assertive, Never Aggressive!
Thank You , Thank You. MR & MS Sanford. Son and daughter of our loving and giving Island. An Example of talking the Talk, and walking the walk, true Patriotic Dominicans regardless of wher in the World we are saying; Ask what we can do for our Country, not what our Country can do for us. God speed going forward continue to shine. Merry Christmas to all, and a more action less talk in the coming year.
The left hand should not know what the right hand is doing. People give five cent and they want the world to know that they have donated. I know persons who donate hundreds of thousands of dollars every year and before this money is donated, make a special request that there name or organisations names are not mentioned. Let’s help without trying to uplift ourselves. Be a cheerful but humble giver. keep the spotlight off of you. Thanks for giving.
