More women are cheating on their partners, a feature of changing gender roles in the Caribbean, according to a tri-nation study carrried out in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
The report, commissioned in 2011 by Panos Caribbean and which is to be released here this month, also confirmed “very strong links” between infidelity and transmission of HIV, the virus which causes AIDS.
“In highlighting infidelity, focus must be on the role of both men and women in perpetuating the spread of HIV. While in the past, it was usually the men who played the field, now many Caribbean women are doing the same,” the Panos Caribbean study said.

I think 21st Century living has complicated many of our social norms and in fact many of those social norms are being redefined as we debate. Women are increasingly operating outside of the traditional norms, when we track the meat, hunt the meat, bring home the meat, cook the meat, feed the children, and cover the bases that are all traditional “MALE”; The lines do become blurred between what’s woman behaviour and man behaviour. He has a weakness..we have sex so often we enjoy each other yet if he goes to another friends house or she may come home in my absence he still sex her. FYI: not all women cheat; most females that run around are either confused, promiscuous or in a relationship with someone that they are not compatible with, (or all three) but they choose to stay because like most individuals they are afraid of being alone. (Labelled as single) Like men some women just want sex, so they go into relationships just for that, then to realize; “OMG” the sex is no longer exciting.

I once had a conversation with my mother and she was talking about her aunts who are all in their 90’s. The things she told me about these women made me cringe. These women 90 odd years ago did the same things and more than what is happening today.
The moral of the story is, people are people (man or woman) and we all crave the same things. Some of us are better able to control our urges while others give in more easily. Cheating women have been with us since the dawn of time. The rate at which it is happening today is no higher than it was eons ago. There were no surveys to measure the rate of female infidelity in the years gone by, but they still have the “fing” on the side.
I hope there aren’t any women trying to justify this; two wrongs don’t make a right, and you don’t know the circumstances that lead to women cheating so don’t start to make excuses. Wrong for men? Wrong for women too.
