Two Dominicans to profess religious vows

Auguiste said he practically grew up in church

Two Dominicans will on Wednesday afternoon profess the religious vows of chastity, poverty and obedience in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.

Calvin Auguiste of St. Joseph will profess the vows perpetually, meaning for life, while Garvey Blanc, also from St. Joseph, will do it temporarily. His vows will be renewed every year.

It is all part of the journey towards priesthood.

The ceremony is to take place at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.

In an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO), 26-year-old Auguiste said that as a young man he practically lived in the church.

He was a catechist, acolyte, and also worked with youth groups.

“It just seemed like it was the next path for me,” he stated. “I was involved in church; I lived pretty much in the church, so when I was growing up most people would say that you should be a priest.”

He said he began internalizing his call after high school and he decided to ‘give it a try.’

“And through time and prayer I think God started to call me more,” he explained.

He attended the elementary school in St Joseph and went on to the Isaiah Thomas Secondary school (ITSS) of that same community.

He joined the Redemptorist community in St Croix where he spent one and a half years. He then went to New York where he studied philosophy for four years.

He did a year of intense spirituality, called the novitiate, in Toronto and is presently doing a three-year stint at Boston College in Boston.

He will be an ordained a priest in St. Joseph come next year June.

All our attempts at contacting Garvey Blanc were not successful.

The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer was founded in 1732 by Alphonsus Ligouri in Scala, Italy to serve the poor and the most abandoned.

Today the order is serving in 77 countries around the world.

It warms my poor heart to read of them. Just imagine how much it warms the Divine Heart of the Blessed Trinity even more.
I am speculating that Calvin Auguiste must have studied at St. Augustine Seminary in Toronto which is where the seminarians stay and study.
I wish both Calvin Auguiste and Garvey Blanc God’s blessing always. We will pray for you.
You have the Heavenly Court praying for you, one of whom is Our Dear Spiritual Mother and Lady, the Ever Blessed Virgin Mary. You should know she never ceases to pray for her “Beloved Priests” and all of us on this earth, in this valley of fears, tears and obstacles. They all know what we are going through.
Once again, God bless you Fathers, Priests to be.
Thank you to DNO for posting this article and to inform us of their soon to be priestly vows. This will help us to keep them in mind, in our prayers as we also inform others to do likewise.

I will inform the parish Priest in the area where I reside to pray for you. Catholic Christians, please do not forget them in your prayers.
