Wallhouse native Adrie Letang has been named as a contestant in the Miss Caribfest 2012 pageant, an annual event hosted by the Caribbean Students Organization of the Midwestern State University.
20-year-old Letang is described as young, vibrant, free spirited and full of energy on the event’s Facebook page.
Letang was raised in a family of four and enjoys dancing, singing, socializing and music. She was a member of the Loubiere Youth Catholic Organization, the Sixth Form Sisserou Singers and the Dynamic Dancers Group before migrating to Texas to pursue studies in Marketing.
She is also pursuing a minor in Public Relations and advertising and hopes to one day own her own advertising agency and become a Marketing Professor.
Letang is one of six contestants in the pageant. The other contestants include Constance Jewel Ashley of New York, Rhea Durand of Antigua and Barbuda, Venezuelan native Gabriela Peraza, Lizca Bass and Tiffiney Lake of Antigua.
The show is set to take place on September 30th, 2012 and forms part of the Caribfest celebrations, an annual event that encourages students and others to celebrate Caribbean music, food and culture.

I know we want to be proud of our people being noticed for good things abroad, but is it *really* news virtually every time any Dominican abroad does anything? This Dominican graduated; this one got a job somewhere; this one is in a pageant. The graduate ones I can more understand, and if a d/can gets a really impressive job, sure–but a pageant? Nice for her, but this should not be worthy of a news site’s front page.

I’m not hating on her specifically, but on the idea that anyone in her position is worthy of news. If she was getting a PhD or being hired by a big company, all right, cool. But a beauty pageant in a university (not even some big pageant either)? Come on.

Look deeper into the news and not just on the surface and you will realize the importance of such posting.when I read it, personally it makes me proud to be a Dominican. cause we realize that while some Dominicans are out there being notorious criminals (and those are the news we want to read about), others are out there trying their best to make Dominica proud and to let people know that inspite of the negatives we have a whole lot of positives. Stop being haters and free thinker, this is for you. Go make news and we will feature you on DNO. Make sure it is something positive.
You think being in a beauty pageant at a university is “important” news? I can hardly imagine anywhere in the world that would consider such a thing actual news. And as a matter of fact, I have achieved and continue to achieve things–degrees, scholarships, publications, the like–outside of Dominica. The fact that I have chosen not to broadcast these on DNO does not mean they don’t exist.
