On Monday, January 13, individuals gathered outside of the courthouse in Roseau, Dominica, to protest the granting of bail to Jonathan Lehrer in the murder trial of French Canadian citizens Daniel Langlois and his partner Dominique Marchand.
The decision to grant Lehrer bail in the sum of $1 million (with stipulations), is not without controversy, garnering public attention, and instigating a public exchange between Minister of National Security and Legal Affairs, Rayburn Blackmoore, and The Dominica Bar Association.
The preliminary inquiry into the case is set to convene on February 10, 2025.

in 2019 bail was granted to an American man who was accused of murdering a Dominican (Kenny Mitchell) in Anguilla. He eventually absconded and lives happily ever after in Connecticut I’ve heard. It is never a good idea to grant bail to people of other countries…there is always that flight risk.
Where are the youths of the affected communities? Are these communities only inhabited by middle aged adults? Some complain when its a political protest that the youth are not showing up but here we have a serious problem and they still don’t show. Well, the country’s future lies with them so please people start mobilizing your children at home so they can understand their role in guaranteeing a democratic society. It will be theirs tomorrow when you all are gone to the great beyond.
Give us a better view of the Melissa updated streets of Roseau, the telephone post in the background and the area as a whole. I thought Roseau was already established as a little UAE as promised by Mellissa 7-10yrs ago. MAG WAY SAH. AT first, I thought the news item and photos were from Mogadishu
Happy to witness Dominicans mounting a protest without being led by a political party. This proves that if Dominicans are genuinely incensed about an issue enough, they will hit the streets.
The unthinkable double murder of these law-abiding, outstanding couple, sent shivers through the community. The two accused should by now be on trial instead of petitioning the court for bail even though they have the right legal to do so.
Dominicans should be just as livid over the malfeasance in government, the corrupt electoral system, the wanton waste of tax payers’ money, the brutality meted out to unarmed protesters by the armed thugs of Roosevelt’s bodyguards.
There is a time and place for everything under the sun and protest is one of these.
The guy has money and contacts. If he is granted bail, he will flee the country.
No Bail! Justice is what we want.
