Hello and good morning my people. Well don’t our Government have civil engineers on staff at public works because everytime we got one day of rain many communities are cut of. I just spent two weeks home and last Sunday it rained all day and I got stuck in my village because of a small landslide. This is something that happens on a regular basis and I thought we solve that problem because they did work at that location but it haven’t stop or prevent this small landslide. The road need to be realigned away from the cliff with a ten feet high retaining wall with proper drainage. Please let’s give scholarships to students who want to be civil engineers where they can return and work on a discount salary to help build better infurstructure. One day of rain shouldn’t confine us to our home.

This website name should be changed.
    Dominica. Moaners Forum.
Never an article, a story an event without people moaning and complaining without any consistency. The Gov not building houses for the people. Why they building houses for people. They want roads and bridges built. Why they not creating jobs. They want airport, seaport. They don’t want to pay tax. They don’t want handouts, but they waiting for a job from someone, somewhere. They want more Businesses, but someone must give them the money to get started. They complain when electricity was down, but complained why they giving Domlec money. Complain when telephone was down, when water was down, but complain the Gov waste money.
What do you want Dominicans? Honest question. Our population can’t generate the economy we need for all the things you want. And if you think change of government will make a difference, then you’re as foolish as you sound and DNO is permitting a nation of professional complainers.

ADMIN: You are giving us far too much credit.

And your point Truth Be told? Do you read the news of what happens elswhere? What are you really saying? So the government should not help some of the persons they helped? So are u in Dominica? Have you seen what has been done since hurricane Maria? Have you visited all over the country? Have you done a comparative now and then after Maria? What is your final point? What are you saying? Yes all those are WIP. Can everything be done in one (1) day? I wonder if some of you read what you write. Or even think before you write. You people twist everything. So because election will be soon , the job must be halted? Then you folks will sing a different song. You disgruntled people are very hard to please. You look at everything and is critical of everything. Do you look for the good at all?? May you people sleep and wake up with a new mind and perspective. That is what you all need and let politics be ejected from your minds. A new mind set and new beginning!

It is no wonder that your name is ????????? (questionable) because you need to learn to read and comprehend! How does your response relate to my post which reads, “While natural challenges and developmental challenges continue to impact on the lives of Dominica citizens, its Government is busy spending millions to win an election to govern over fifty-something thousand people! Do you hear and see madness oh my good Lord Jesus Christ?
Bridges to be rebuilt? Roads to be repaired? Economy to be redeveloped? Hospital to complete? Tourism industry and air-facilities to be upgraded? Agriculture to be re-established? No! Just an election to win! In the end people get the government that they deserve!”

Don’t be bothered, Truth Be Told. This retiree (?????????????) is a political fanatic of the DLP. Even though your comments are innocuous, once she perceives them as anti-government, she becomes insanely enraged and launches visceral attacks on you. Don’t allow people who contribute nothing to your life occupy space in your head rent free.

Amen. And the truth has been told. I am asking myself how much does each launching cost? how much did the new DLP house cost? How much is the new house in Morne Daniel costing? Meanwhile we suffer. We are digressing. Wait for it, there will be more disaster in the making. you see all that rain we getting this season? ok. It doesnt take much for it to happen these days. but go on spending millions on election. Someone made the point that they have not heard of the DLP doing any fund raising in the past 5 years as a party. where they getting all that money ?

Although the pictures are not captioned, two are of the new housing estate at Bellevue Chopin. Had the developers studied the hazard maps for Dominica beforehand they would have rejected this location.

The rain we experience yesterday was nothing out of the ordinary for Dominica.

    • ??????????????????
      July 29, 2019

Roger there is still work going on in the New Housing Estate. Everything cannot be done in one (1) day. There are still excavating material there. There will always be landslides and after hurricane Maria with all the heads put together, one can safely say no place is safe. Looks safe, feels safe but in one (1) day everything can be destroyed. We should pray to the Creator for his guidance and hands of protection over us and not complain about everything. We saw safe places (for eg see Petite Savanne) become unsafe after one tropical storm. Places habited for over a century and more became inhabitable after one storm or hurricane.

so, the developers didnt know that they need to do proper drainage? Or even that yo cannot just put concrete on top of soil and expect it to stay? please. Keep making excuses. I even saw water bubbles in the paint on the walls INSIDE of the people’s apartments.

Isn’t Dominica in the Hurricane path? What happened when Maria stuck the country? Had the inhabitants studied the hazard map for Dominica beforehand they would have rejected residing on the island. So what the hell you talking about? Do you want to interfere with God’s work(nature) even if your leader(L L) says HE can remove the anointment from a man of GOD?

Maria was out of the ordinary, very much so. This rainfall over the weekend is pretty normal for our island. If an area chosen for a government housing project is having structural issues from simple rainfall much less for when something really bad happens. If you can’t understand this simple concept it just goes to show how intellectually deficient you labour party supporters are.

        • July 29, 2019

“This rainfall over the weekend is pretty normal for our island..”??? You can’t be serious. Continuous showers for close to 24 hours is normal? How often does this happen? If the main rivers were not dredged many would have overflowed their banks and caused damage.

Thankfully the Antrim River has not been dredge above Check Hall. I monitored the flow of the river all day Sunday and at no time did it reach a dangerous full flood scenario.

The previous problems at Check Hall have been caused by land slippage at Antrim that has created a temporary dam and hence the sudden release of a wall of water.

Here they come, the KID and Question Marks, to scold Roger Burnett for his sensible comments and genuine concerns. Just two pitiful Labour diehards that police this forum looking to pounce on anyone who dares to express any concern about the country. Goons!

    • July 29, 2019

Mr. Burnett, there are very few places safe to build in Dominica. A case can be made to abandon the southern section of Dominica. Most of the casualties from natural disasters occur in the southern region, the bagatelle and Petite Savanne disasters come easily to mind. Can we escape hurricanes, volcanoes and earthquakes if we move to the North? This is Dominica, love or leave it.

      • Roger Burnett
        July 30, 2019

Dominica’s terrain has its challenges, but many of the disasters that we have recently experienced can be traced to indiscriminate modifications to nature’s own inherent stability. The land slippage at Antrim and Petite Savanne are cases in point: one by blocking natural drainage by dumping millions of tons of spoil and the other by destabilizing land by flawed agricultural practice.

Today’s heavy earth moving equipment has less respect for the landscape than your grandfather’s picks, shovels and wheel barrows.

I maintain that the imported red truck logos should not read “DOMINICA STRONG” but “DOMINICA DELICATE, PLEASE HANDLE WITH CARE”

    Dear Admin,
Really appreciate the article/pictures. However, in the future, can we have at least a brief description/heading to those pictures? Apart from the fallen rock at Colihaut, I am at a loss for the rest.
    Just a suggestion.

    Thanks

Despite the flooding in some places and the damages, thankfully, no life was lost. The rock fall in certain areas of the country during inclement weather continues to pose a serious threat, especially to motorists. Some of these roads with overhanging cliffs and protruding boulders should be avoided during heavy and persistent rainfall. I hope normalcy will be restored to all affected areas soonest.

    • KID ON THE BLOCK
      July 29, 2019

Ibo MALAPROP France, Dominica is a mountainous island, do’t you expect to have overhanging cliffs and protruding boulders over some roads? Your comment seems very sarcastic; Soon you will say is the Government and Skerrit that cause that to be.

        July 29, 2019

@ Kid,….Everything that happens in Dominica is Skerrit and the DLP. I guess you- know- who will be calling a press conference if he is not in hiding. I hear he has a fear of rain and truth.

Their are people who will disparage Dominica and Dominicans to the extreme on every occasion. That is all they can do. This is because they have nothing to offer and can do nothing to help. The question is : What do they have to gain ? Who are they working for ? Whose agents are they ? Are they agents of foreign entities like the agents of foreign corporation who took sugar and bananas from us, from the whole Caribbean ( west Indies) Are they agents who cause our citrus to surfer from banning and sanctions from international markets? We seem to be our own worst enemy. Why ?
