COMMENTARY: In Response To Volney

Francis Joseph
Francis Joseph

You failed to note that:

  1. The UWP under James won 11 seats and were kicked out with an amalgamation of parties, DLP and DFP.
  2. Under Linton`s leadership, the UWP won eight seats in the stolen 2014 elections, an increase by 65% from the previous election stolen by the DLP and a weak Election Commission. Please refer to the numerous mails presented by Lennox re Skerrit and Lawrence, mails between the Commission and Skerrit’s lawyers.
  3. You failed to recognise that Hon. Joshua Francis whom you purport to champion for as the UWP leader with immediate effect has responded many times that he is neither currently interested nor ready for the leadership of UWP. This is the mistake DLP made by putting Skerrit in there as a novice, a painful remedy that is destroying Dominica. I wholly agree with Joshua, not rush into this leadership thing like Skerrit. One then must question your motive in pursuing such a superfluous campaign.
  4. The Skerrit lead DLP government paid for and brought in plane loads of Diasporan Dominicans through many routes to vote in strategic constituencies where Skerrit knew that they would not have won. This is fraudulent and corrupt electioneering.
  5. Eugenia Charles fell in the same predicament like Lennox that he will not make a good Prime Minister, in that like Eugenia, Linton appears too serious, strict and with Dominica`s interest at heart. However, this is the kind of disciplined leadership Dominica needs and Miss Charles served three terms, stabilised the country politically and democratically, established a growing economy and brought back some level of decency and prestige to the name Dominica. Lennox is sufficiently qualified to restore decency to our ailing Dominica.

Please be further advised that Hon. Linton is not the issue and that there are numerous, critical and present issues facing Dominica’s development, more so in the past 13 years, impoverished Dominica tenfold over. The critical issue before us is that Dominicans are not sufficiently mature to reject Skerrit`s Red Clinic and are blind to decency, transparency, good governance and accountability in Government.

Dominica like many African and Latin American countries still experiences long-serving Presidents labeled as corrupt, dictators, manipulate the voters’ lists and offer handouts to the poor and vulnerable for example, closer to home Haiti. Now there is this Nigerian minister Alison-Madueke allegedly on the run and may be associated with Skerrit. Corrupt leaders are very deliberate in disrespecting the institutions of government and violate and disrespect the Constitution.

Hon. Linton single-handedly pursued a campaign on behalf of all Dominicans in discovering many illegal and fraudulent financial and other constitutional matters of this Skerrit led government and forced the government to admit to the Bin Bobol after the evidence presented itself and admitted in shame that “an error” was made. They promised to repay within two weeks and only paid almost a year later. To this day, I am convinced that it is our tax money that repaid this money. This was an open act of thievery created, manipulated from the highest level of the Prime Minister’s office. We need to know who and Skerrit`s government needs to put an investigation in place. Will this happen under this questionable government? No, I doubt it very much. That is why they are scared of Hon. Linton and a UWP government.

So Volney, please get your priorities right in what it is you wish to champion on behalf of Dominica. A legal luminary having served in one of the richest countries in the Caribbean should be championing for integrity, good governance, and transparency in government and not at Hon. Linton, a person you have failed to recognise who undertook the tasks I mentioned above on behalf of we the Dominican people. Where were you and what really have you been engaged in? Are you in search of a job within the Skerrit administration? I hope you will not be fired.

PORT OF SPAIN (Reuters) – Trinidad and Tobago’s justice minister, Herbert Volney, was fired on Thursday over a controversial law that could allow charges to be dropped against more than a dozen people facing corruption charges, including two men wanted in the United States.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said Volney, a member of parliament of the ruling coalition, had deceived the government by assuring the cabinet that the proclamation of the new law had been approved by the country’s Chief Justice and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

I agree with Hebert Volney, who ever you are 100%. Linton is NOT and I repeat is NOT “Prime Minister Material” This guy needs to step down. He is the cause of all what is going on in Dominica. He has been barking for so long now and whenever he calls a public meeting only, only, only a handful of people show up. what does that tell you. THE PEOPLE OF HAVE SPOKEN….. Skerrit is there to stay. Skerrit is one of the best Prime Ministers that we have ever in Dominica.

I do t get it, this brilliant, wonderful, clever leader lose every case in the courts. Appears not to understand his role as opposition leader, makes a laughing stock of himself by writing to the Queen of England. Very unpatriotic refuse to support a felliw Dominican. I could go on and on. Uwp supporters mistakes ignorance, spitfulness etc as a sign of strength and should be applauded.

Nelson Mandela fought for the rights and ownership of South Africa for his people away from the corrupt Apartheid Bullies in South Africa. He was castigated, called names and was imprisoned.
He came out of prison standing tall for what he stood for.
Lennox will be free and further recognised as a reputable leader at heart with the interest of Dominica and Dominicans at heart.
Outside of E.O.Leblanc, Eugenia Charles, can you name any other leader deserving of such reputable , honest platitudes and free of bobol in recent years.

I am very happy to have generated the dialogue on national leadership at the party level that my commentary has. Clearly those of you who do not know me would not appreciate my stake in the national life of Dominica having had the experience of a bruising battle as a young man with the creeping military style dictatorship of the self styled Colonel Patrick John. We marched and stormed the Parliamentary Chamber causing the Labour government to run for shelter as we demonstrated against the enactment of the Undesirable Publications Bill 1968.
I have been in politics at different levels all my life, never losing an electoral fight in a one on one, and it pains me to see that Dominicans cannot recognize that Lennox Linton, questionably an accomplished investigative report as he holds himself out to be, is not Prime Ministerial material.

Mr Volney, we are dealing with you and your comments as is now. We are not in a position to ridicule you and your past and current achievements and contributions, and we hope you will stay focus on the issue at hand, which is the poor governance in this country.
One thing Lennox is , is a team player, unlike Skerrit majority of his ministers may not be aware of what is going on ..why..? because he appears to have an unelected cabinet who advises him unwisely.
Skerrit has been around for too long to know and have seen and witness the failure of him and his DLP government and the wounds and poverty inflicted on the poor people of Dominica.
I feel for him, Show me your company, tell you who you are. It was this current President who in the DFP days after Pierro passed campaigned as part of the then coalition to be Prime Minister and that no little boy should be PM. Look where he is now. There is one thing I wish you would do; and that is for my curiosity; is to confirm wether or not you are Dominica born. I believe I know two of your brothers, Christ who resides in Canada, and there is one older than Chris, we both used to lime on the jetty on the water front in Roseau.

We lime at the then New Bridge watching those big Billy-goats which walked the streets of Roseau in the 1950’s, there are some who claims that you are not Dominican by birth, would you please be kind enough to confirm if you are Dominica born or not!

Not that it is any of my business, but if I am not mistaken I may remember your parents place of residence at the top of Kings lane somewhere in the region of the Roman Catholic Church.

Let us return to Volney’s commentary.

It wasnt Linton who won Roseau South.
It was Sikiri, no matter what colour, which village you come from, everyone respects him.
    That is the solid fact.
He’s individual campaigning style, and his legacy came to fruition.

DLP is indeed in trouble because they are YET to win the capital.

Where was Volney during his HEYDAY as MINISTER OF JUSTICE in Triidad and Tobago ….clearly as former Minister he should guide this nation with the huge experience and legal acumen after looking at the various nefarious allegations as per the corruption and get QUICK RICH scheme which are well chronicled
This is not about the UWP ALTERNATIVE LEADERSHIP-IT IS NOT ABOUT Joshua or Lennon in UWP
It is about who in LABOUR TO REPLACE skerritt as PM ?
We know that the ilks of Volney political patrons of FREEDOM who have successfully and cleverly taken over the LABOUR BRAND believes that they have ascended to control of government from the back door as has CHARLES SAVARIN !
So in typical TRINI style VOLNEY claims “we like it so !!”
Really Volney represents the old pseudo bougeous elitist class structure that the LABOUR PARTY had replaced with the aspiring labour class
We now see the PARRY BELLOTS and that ilk retaking control from the back door as does the likes of Volney….why…

I strongly requests of The DNO Administrators to take down this post and assess its potentiality for defamation.

Many of the issues raised therein touch and concern a wide variety of vexatious issue expressly and innuendos. The implications can lead to very disastrous legal consequences.

The recent Keiron P Byrne Judgment is a major guide .

The article is poorly structured and highly convoluted. There is indeed evidence that the author does not seem to be mastering the English Language. What about the rules pertaining to paragraphing and the organization and presentation of information. Ideas have to be clearly articulated for proper information to be decently communicated. Some of the information is pregnant with factual inadequacies.

        January 11, 2016

That is true Kid, not all Dominica is helping to pay for Lennox Linton. Some poor people don’t have the money and others are free not to contribute if they feel so.
But lets see because that money seems to be flowing in much faster even than for Patrick John. And I notice people not even afraid any more to give their name on radio and lots of money coming from our people in the U.S.A. I think this is a way of people showing their disapproval of mr. Skerrit’s government. They are making a statement of disapproval and making Lennox Linton a hero. The speed and the amount of money raised will tell us a lot!

They are clueless and have no idea of the rules of the House of Assembly.
If the want the Government to resign ……why don’t they move a motion of no confidence
If they have questions for the speaker why don’t they give the required notice. You just cant raise your hands and ask questions . That is not elementary school. They are full of double standard. When a person post or say something supportive on the government it is called singing for supper, when its them its ok. Mr Volney you have every right to express yourself. That is a human right. If you want to sing for supper you have every right. And while you are at it sing for lunch and dinner too.

It appears to me that Herbert Volney is trying to curry favours with Dominca’s current leadership in a pathetic attempt to secure a prominent position in his little country of birth after he caused himself to be dismissed as Minister of Justice in Trinidad & Tobago.

      Balthazar
Herbert Volney was not born in Dominica as you have implied most nauseatingly. The Naturalized Dominican has more dollars than banks can check and is not in need of any favors. The honorable gentleman is a powerful and celebrated legal luminary of international standings. His short tenure into politics was born out of a genuine need to arrest the many inadequacies and perennial weaknesses in the legal system at every level in Trinidad.

Justice Volney’s resignation from the Bench was seen as a major sacrifice but more importantly it was the epitome of his love for his adopted country and his burning desire to make a greater contribution to the advancement of justice. Vacating a secure and well paid job to get into the vagaries of partisan politics was not an easy task. He won the St Joseph seat under the UNC.

This gentleman does have a stake in Dominica’s politics and his close relations to a member of its leadership must be respected. Linton’s recorded outrage…

  23. Be Reasonable.
    January 11, 2016

I still believe that Skerritt is the right Prime Minister for Dominica and UWP is not ready yet to govern. UWP have to get it together, they continue to show their childish behavior in opposing everything rather than to humble, work along and learn from mistakes made but if you continue to get NGO’s, The Queen, World Bank, UN etc in our business and begging investors not to invest in Dominica because of their rivals, what makes you think that they will be supported by these same people wholeheartedly?

Instead our people work together, we tear don each other, Politics have ripped Dominica apart so there is no good party, no not one. Politics is the mechanism to influence people into a mesmerized zone of both evils. Making promises are DLP and UWP’s motives. They seek to capture attention from the masses. We as the people need to work together as a nation putting aside POLITICS. PUT ASIDE POLITICS AND WORK TOGETHER FOR A BETTER DOMINICA.

‘Be reasonable’ I’m sure has good intentions in his utterances!! And you as well ‘nonamegal’, I’m sure also want the best for our native land!! the problem with the proposal which you both think best, that of coming together and working for the good of our country outside of politics, is that it is an impossible proposal!! We must have a political structure in order to have a society which is orderly and which respects the law and the rights of others under a constitution. We must work within that framework therefore!! The problem is, in my view, that our people seem INCAPABLE of operating under such a system effectively!!! WE MUST DEMAND THAT THE LAW BE ADHERED TO BY ALL, INCLUDING POLITICIANS AND IF THEY DON’T, THEN WE NEED TO REMOVE THEM, GIVE THEM DUE PROCESS AND PUNISH THEM WHERE THEY DESERVE TO BE. The difficulty I have with your proposal is that you, as well as so many other Dominicans, probably innocently expect us to do just that while MAINTAINING THE STATUS QUO!!! Bad…

I have already rubbished the writings of Mr. Volney on this issue. I will also rubbish this response by Mr. Joseph as it just represents the usual UWP propaganda of stolen elections and reference to corruption by the DLP. Fuzzy maths claiming that the UWP under the leadership of Lennox won 8 seats in the 2014 election speaks volumes to the substandard quality of this article. Thanks to Mr. Joseph we now have 23 member Parliament.

You use Dominica to get an education then it was bye bye Dominica.
As I see it you are one selfish individual hoping to get the attention and some kind of reward from Lennox

Please absorb an articulation at it’s very best… when Mr Joseph speaks, please take heed because he is very well read and possess flexible skills, knowledge and experience at the highest level to perform globally. Mr Joseph has dissected Mr Volney’s assertion about The Rt Hon Lennox Linton excellently by focussing on the cancer of D/ca’s, being the PM or this Labour led administration. I’m inclined to literal truth and pragmatism.

The key to D/ca aspiring to it’s optimum politically, socially and economically is the PM out, out, out of office. Why such an assertion. The PM’s achievement in office after 10 years to date is:
    1. Unable to communicate to the nature
    2. Unable to organise
    3. Unable to show political skills and leadership style
    4. Unable to set out policy aims and visions

Mr. Francis Joseph quite eloquently says, “one then must question your motive in pursuing such a superfluous campaign, ” referring to Volney. It is obvious and well timed that Volney is singing for his political super. Volney has one eye on the new IPO commission and the other on the position as Speaker of the House. What better way then to impress Skeritt, not only, by trying to destroy Mr. Linton politically, but also in the process pelt an attack on the constituency of Marigot, presently the mecca of Dominica’s politics. This fired Minister of Government is of no use to any political party in Trinidad, therefore, it is time to come back home and join, according to Mr. Linton, the DBL team.

UWP won the 11 seats with 33% of the vote a minority government. So Olney is correct, the majority of Dominicans did not want the Edison James UWP nor lennox linton uwp to govern then.

Some of you love to scandalize the PM’s name, his reputation, his Party and supporters. This is not good at all. The same repetitious words, stated on and on.
As always, it depends on whose you are on. Lots of mapwee as well. The problem is some people think their words are correct.
DNO is an ideal Website to voice your opinion. We do know that DNO is a UWP supporter. It is also noticeable that there are some UWP supporters users. What would be great is, if only you, the writer of this article were also fair and just.
You are comparing Eugenia Charles to Linton and vice versa? A lady of her caliber? If she were alive she would vehemently disapprove your words.
When people as you give the PM his dues and respectfully so, the political situation in Dominica will be changed. From Day One, none of you have cooperated with him. It appears you never will.
You have divided Dominicans, caused disunity in the Nation and want everyone to turn against the PM.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, no matter who we are, we were all formed in the likeness of Jesus Christ the creator of every human alive, and everything that was created!

Only a fool would comment on the phenotype of another human, there is no such thing as an ugly person, there are different shades of flowers, different land forms.

Be reminded some of the people you all classify as handsome beautiful, or good looking are the most dangerous people on the planet, some of the most women involved into prostitution there are dozen of them two blocks from my house, right now, but I cannot consider anyone of lot ugly!

Some of the most notorious vicious criminals, like murders, and rapists are the so called handsome people.

      Why?

      You answer that to yourself!

That Volney guy is just an agent of the team and we will not even waste our time with him. We know is Lennox they are afraid of so they will use anyone to curse Lennox just to see if he will not give up under pressure. But not our leader they will get! When Mr. Linton came into politics and was subsequently made the leader of UWP, we only had three seats and Skerrit and his gang were talking about taking those 3 seats from us. Instead, Mr. Linton added three more seats and knowing what I know, I am convinced that the election was stolen. So we have no time for Volney and his crap. Hon. Josua Francis is a very wise man he will not take their bait. He remembers how he was attacked by them when he announced himself as a UWP candidate. He remembers how Skerrit washed his tongue on him and Mr. Linton, like the big brother we know him to be, quickly took them on. So tell them to shut it up!

Impressed….sadly the Deputy Leader of the UWP needs to be more forceful in dismissing the attempted by that clouded legal mind…

But he sits there and remains extremely quiet..looking for a elevated lift upwards.
I don’t dislike the UWP Dep, but sadly he isn’t Leadership Material, in my view would be a Massive destruction having him ever be the frontman…

UWP must have stern leadership, not someone who can be stifled and said yes under pressure from the rogue regime….
