India lodges fresh charges against Mehul Choksi

Choksi leaving court in Dominica

Police in India has lodged a new case of bank loan fraud against Mehul Choksi, his firms, and others.

India is reporting that another arrest warrant has been issued for diamond dealer Mehul Choksi. This is not the only warrant issued for the arrest of the Indian-born businessman who has been living in Antigua and Barbuda since 2017.

According to the latest reports, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation said it had registered a complaint from India’s Canara Bank against Choksi for apparently causing millions of dollars in losses.

Police reportedly conducted search operations at three of the accused’s premises in Mumbai which led to the recovery of incriminating documents.

Choksi is wanted by Indian authorities in relation to the Punjab National Bank scam where it is alleged that he defrauded the bank of more than two billion US dollars.

He has been charged with criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering, among other things.

Choksi received Antiguan and Barbudan citizenship by investment. He is still fighting his extradition to India. He has also been tangled up in a number of issues including illegal entry into Dominica, an allegation he has denied.

He says he was kidnapped from Antigua sometime in May last year and taken to the neighboring island.

The Antiguan police say they are still investigating this matter.

James Lynch, a spokesperson for Mr. Choksi, stated, “Mr. Choksi denies all the allegations India made against him.”

DNO should issue a clarification that the Police investigation referenced in the article refers to an investigation by the Police of Antigua not the Police in Dominica. The authorities in Dominica have dropped their bogus illegal entry case against Choksi.

ADMIN: Thank you for pointing that out. We have made the clarification.

A report by the Antiguan police states that Choksi was kidnapped. This news item is a matter for Choksi, India and Antigua. I’m waiting to hear what is Dominica’s complicity in the malfeasance. The Dominican government dropping an illegal entry matter against Choksi is one thing but the government’s complicity in the kidnapping matter is a different issue. The government ministers, the police and the court in Dominica have questions to answer.

I am in complete agreement with you Mr. St Jean. Three governments (India, Antigua, Dominica) are under strong suspicions of involvement in the kidnapping of Choski. The evidence is especially convincing.

DNO, why don’t you question the unholy silence by the government of Dominica
      surrounding this purported egregious crime?

Grow a spine, DNO, and report on the inaction of the police on Choski’s alleged kidnapping. If these governments are allowed to escape with this serious crime unscathed, all of us are at risk.

It’s no wonder crime is so rampant in this country. When a government indulges in criminal activities, the entire country becomes criminal.

ADMIN: Ibo, if we acted differently because of your bullying that is when you could question if we had a spine.

We will continue to pursue this story as long as we can find the news. However, we will not write an article simply to cater to your views.

Ibo France, why are you all so fixated on the alleged crime committed against Choksi? What about the allegations of fraud in India. Both topics can be spoken about.

If Choski committed any crime in India he will pay dearly for it. Crimes that have happened in India we are mostly unaffected by it.

Our governments in the Caribbean should observe the rule of law. When they are alleged!y incriminate in high crimes like kidnapping, we must be alarmingly troubled. Got it?

We must have a balanced approach. If a Dominican would defraud a local bank and adopt citizenship of another in which he is living in the lap of luxury, I think you would be OK with that!

Balanced approach is a dirty word in DA since the red brigade took over. You are one of them since you try to sell us a bit of rhetoric. No government and it’s leader should be a law breaker. That’s my point.

@Kid On The Block, just so you know I answer questions every day and do so honestly and truthfully. I just won’t be answering any questions of yours. Anyone who is afraid to be asked questions must be doing something wrong.

Now “finding” material could very well mean evidence was planted. If i am in Antigua for the past how long, you go to 3 of my houses in India that i have not been to in years, and you say you “find” evidence in my house, especially if i KNOW for a fact that the Indian authorities have been after me for considerably some time now, i would think the material was planted.

At this point the Indian authorities might be desperate just to get me on Indian soil with trumped up charges. Once i reach India they will charge me with whatever they can find that will stick. But their main goal now is to get me back to india by any means necessary. So yes, go to my houses and plant fake evidence. Meanwhile i would be giving Gaston Browne his court papers.

Reasoning of a real UWPite . Always want to spin and turn around things to please themselves and followers. MOOTON BATALEY . Choksi in under investigation. Investigations go a long way. In the US, one commits a crime and that is investigated. 40 years later the culprit is caught and charged for the crime. if Choksi is under investigation, the authorities can find other developments regarding Choksi involvement in other BAD DEALS.
Why don’t ask Choksi why he left India and ended up in Antigua.

What should be of grave concern to you, DNO and Dominicans are the numerous corrupt and illegal dealings committed by this unlawfully installed autocracy posing as a democratic government.

If Dominica had a real government, the incidents of money laundering, the missing CBI money, the close relationships between the most notorious, international crooks and the domestic LIAR in Chief, would have already been investigated and disposed of.

Choski’s legal woes are of no consequence to Dominicans.

@Kid On The Block, also why don’t you want to question the fact that the Antiguan police report states that Choksi was indeed kidnapped in Antigua. Since he was brought to Dominca and a day later a jet from the Indian government landed in Dominca to try and whisk him out to India then that chain of events needs to be investigated as well. An Indian official was even advising the court in Dominca on the proceedings to hurry and get the sick and injured man flown to India. This wasn’t a Netflix movie. Forget about the popcorn and let the investigations proceed, all of them. Also ask Antigua why it gave him it’s nationality and then urged Dominca, meaning Skerritt, to deport it’s citizen to India. Shakespeare couldn’t have envisioned a more intriguing plot. Only in Dominca will this criminal conduct be acceptable to some like you

I dont vote. Havent for the last 2 elections. Im neither UWP nor DLP. I am a decent God fearing tax payer who lives and works in Dominica. You sir are clearly a paid operative and DLP dependant. I dont ask for handouts or depend on anyone else to put food in my mouth or bay my bills.

The facts revealed in this case are glaringly obvious. The fine that you are still in denial says very much about you. Asking him why he left India will never deny the fact that he is a CARICOM citizen. and HAS THE RIGHT TO LIVE IN ANTIGUA FOR AL LONG AS HE LIKES. To be honest i wouldnt want to live in India. Even Indians dont want to live in India. way too overpopulated.
