Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that the international airport promised for Dominica by his government has not been removed from the national priority list.
He said COVID-19 has delayed the project.
Skerrit said his government is looking forward to building the international airport since it is a way of sustaining the investment made in tourism.
He explained that when COVID-19 hit China, there was a technical group prepared to visit Dominica to conduct the final geotechnical studies, however, at that time China was grappling with Covid-19 and there were risks associated with people travelling from China, so the visit had to be suspended.
“We are hoping that once the borders are opened and protocols are in place that technical team can come in to do the final geotechnical studies to understand the soil type we have in the Wesley, Woodford Hill area,” he stated.
The Prime Minister went on to say that the process of land acquisition has started.
“We will start making payments to the landowners,” he said.
“Work is in progress,” Skerrit continued.”We haven’t stopped but there are some actions that are required on the ground and we are just hoping and praying that our borders and global borders can open up and we can see the abeyance of Covid-19 and we can certainly move with that project.”
I have no doubt Prime Minister Skerrit is taking stock of this majestical, beautiful rendition of what will be the new Hewanorra Airport in St. Lucia. We should not despair at all. Ours will be coming soon. There is no doubt about it. Ours will be second to none in the Caribbean when it hits ground. I still believe that the Prime Minister means good for the country. Our terminal building when built will be a knock out. Rocks have now weathered to soil, rivers and water table have changed so hydrostatic and soil elastic and tensile properties have changed. By the time Dimitri great grand kids start the airport we will need an archeological survey to make sure we preserve what use to be the village of Wesley and woodfordhill. Roger, I know it sounds crazy at this point, when they have a decided on a location to go and check if the soil is suitable but I recall something similar happen at the spot where they built that Moroccan hotel, where an investor, I believe from Trinidad wanted to construct a marina and a consultant company from Barbados found that area was unstable and could be subject to flooding. The marina was not built but still Skerrit’s government went ahead with that hotel. I dont’t know it’s state right now but I would not be surprised if you can swim in the basement and there is subsidence. I’m sure they want to avoid something like that at the planned airport site but you are right, why at this stage, is like putting the cart before the horse, back to front planning. still, the airport is still just a promise after all.

Right now the person in the firing line is Roosevelt Skerrit. He makes te promises, he spends our money, he wants all the adulation and gratitude of the nation. It is only fair and just that his performance is scrutinised before any other and in my estimation he is doing a lousy job and if he can’t take the criticism and the heat, let him get out of the kitchen instead of prolonging his presence by any means. This Dominican does not enjoy the diners served by him.

Always first comprehend then address each comment on its merit. I was simply telling MANBITES DOG that if he is intent on critisizing the Opposition he should do so constructively, not ron issues of Physical appearance.

@Sylvester Cadette, they do the same thing with the news article, but unfortunately, their comrades simply give them the positive thumbs, the reason they return to do the same thing over and over.
As I read that UKDominican’s comment to yours, I went back to check to see what the person was talking to against you about–but I found nothing.
Those people either do not understand what is written or they don’t read at all. But they do a few things instead:
(1) They simply look at the identity of the written post and they use the thumbs rating positively or negatively.
(2) If they don’t like the person, they choose to write all kinds of rude, disrespectful, and insulting comments below that person’s message. Like who, here, knows me well enough to call me a shameful person?
(3) They don’t think we all have our own thoughts–they have all sorts of names against you for not speaking theirs. That is the most unfair attitude on this comment board

Since before Mr in office it has been a priority wi….alas, i think is time Dominican politicians come up with a new buzzPhrase besides Resilient and International airport, maybe start promising people a theme park to rival Disneyworld or better yet, a moon base to give Nasa competition. alas.

Good old Covid-19 and Maria and Erica and and… Skerrit always finds one Desaster or another to serve as his scapegoat why his lies don’t come true! Today it’s the airport! Why doesn’t Skerrit at least show us the plans, the geological studies, the certificates of land ownership, the feasibility studies, the budget studies and finance in place… Nothing we see but plenty of words we hear as usual. Pie in the sky as usual. You all mark my words. The reason I know, because I own several acres of land where this airport is supposed to be built. Nobody has approached me yet to purchase said land never mind pay for it. Remember in October last year he told us that they commenced with the land purchase. Today he tells us they will start soon. This man is a liar and conman!
