A Christian never rejoices in another man’s death – Vatican spokesman on killing of Bin Laden

Bin Laden

VATICAN CITY — The Vatican said the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, a man who sowed division and hatred and who caused “innumerable” deaths, should prompt serious reflection about one’s responsibility before God.

A Christian “never rejoices” in the face of a man’s death, the Vatican spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi, said in a brief statement this morning. Here is an English translation of his statement:

“Osama bin Laden, as we all know, bore the most serious responsibility for spreading divisions and hatred among populations, causing the deaths of innumerable people, and manipulating religions for this purpose

In the face of a man’s death, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibilities of each person before God and before men, and hopes and works so that every event may be the occasion  for the further growth of peace and not of hatred.”

The ignorance of the RCC is such that when ever whoever priest or bishop that speaks as usual the opinion of the vartican that it’s from the holy spirit decend and of-course , they’re infallible because their holy-father the pope is infallible and cannot lie whenhe speaks , becuz versus the bible the pope is truth and the bible lying , so to a priest .
Whilst the so-call father was opinionating and nothing wrong with that yet , we must never stray from the Word of God and the terror of God . All we stress on is God’s merciful and we take his grace forgranted , that’s why we have to give ashes every year after people come from revelling which is total rebellion . Friends and my hard to understand and accept truth RCC-ites , Christians are people who’re saved by grace and not works . Everyday desiroous of Christ and will not harden themselves to the xtreme that Christ’ Spirit no longer has our fullest attention . Give this so-call-father a chance to do the funeral you hear him father accept our brother into your rest , he has been a good man . Doctrine of devils according to the Psalm previously read god will take vengeance on any such one . To be taught that you can just commit all your crimes and when you’re caught and on the verge of death just say a fast thing and you’ll be saved from hell’s wrath is occultish . God’s not mocked , what so-ever a man ( who denies grace and forfeits mercy ) soweth that shall he also reap .

Is not that the bible contradicts itself. The problem is too many people claiming to be teachers of the bible, but do not know the God of the bible. So they give their opinions instead of THUS SAYS THE SCRIPTURE.
People reject the bible not because it contradicts itself,But because it contradicts them…..Douglas Jacoby

The Vatican does not represent the word of God.
Whenever you find God laughing in the Holy Scriptures is at the stupidity, and destruction of the wicked. Psalm 2:4-5 and Psalm 37:12-15

We should not be happy about another mans death because salvation is the ultimate goal. Yes we agree that he did some terrible things. However, that does not justify the church backing his killing. Jesus said ” love your enemy.” It is near impossible to love and kill your enemy at the same time.” Once someone is dead their chance for finding Jesus is over. Who are we to cut his time short and give him no chance to find God. Isn’t our goal as Christians to help as many people as possible reach salvation?

What the priiest is saying is NOT biblical.

Proverbs 11:10: When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy. (King James version)

It never said whether christian or non-christian. I never see where the bible state that christians should not rejoyce over the death of the wicked.

Preach what is in the Bible, not what you think,

Thank you very much Anonymous, another point to Observer the priest wasn’t quoting the bible when he made the statement that “A Christian never rejoices in the face of a man’s death”, he was merely making a statement based more on his own personal belief or opinion and I agree with him 100% because God gave life to man not man himself and when a man dies that’s the Lord’s will and as father Lombardi went on to say:
‘We should reflect on the serious responsibilities of each person before God and before men, and hopes and works so that every event may be the occasion for the further growth of peace and not of hatred.”
Osama was a wicked man YES but his judgement is before GOD and not us, so why rejoice there will be more Osamas and even worse.

How does it not occur to you, D/CAN or Anonymous, that you’ve uncovered one of the many contradictions in the bible? That you, D/CAN, go on to claim the priest’s statement is fine because it’s his “personal opinion” is extraordinary. The bible’s words don’t matter, right, since all that matters is “personal opinion?” Contradictions in the book don’t matter, right, since all you need is your own “personal opinion” on which to believe?

Logic is a rare creature in these comments.

          HUMANIST you echo my sentiments.
Observer and Anonymous both quoted scriptures from the Bible which contradicts each other, yet D/CAN chose to side with one scripture and not the other… why?… becaues the words of the priest is more aligned with it.
This is the reason why many people question the Bible and christianity on a whole… because of contradictions such as this. SMH

I do not think that Christians are rejoicing per se but that they are rejoicing a wicked man is now taken out of the world never to harm anyone and they do not have to live in fear of him. We pray that a successor does not take his place.
The world could do very well without such terrorists. The world was a happier place to live and travel prior to terrorists actions. They have caused the world, governments and businesses as airlines a lot of worry, personal and financial distress and cost. I do not see why we should not be happy that Osama is dead. The world has been eagerly awaiting this a long time ago.
My further view is that all terrorists should be eradicated from the face of the earth that we might live in happiness, peace and safety as God meant it to be for His children.

Osama and his kind are not the first to perpetrate terrorism on the earth. A certain religious institution has a pretty violent and bloody history that dates back many centuries. Atrocities that they have committed would make some of these terrorists look like saints.

When you accuse “a certain religious” I know which one you are referring to. I have read about it and I have heard about it from its enemies. Be truthful and fair. So did the Muslims, a so-called religion which was formed approximately 600 years ago who went after the Catholic Christians and created havoc and murdered many of them.
Read some books as The Concise History of the Catholic Church and The Last Secret and other information.
Many of you hear. You listen to the enemies of the Church, some of whom have formed their own religion and for personal gain but you do not read those books which records the truth and will educate you prior to making such statements and forming your warped and uneducated opinion.
I have a message for the world and that is as the saying: “Be sure that brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear.” Also, putting your finger to the keyboard and what is imbedded in your heart and mind with false teachings and heresies.

How can you say people are not rejoicing? I am against terrorism in all forms but the pictures of americans celebrating and drinking and dancing and laughing make me sick. It was still a human life and we as humans should never celebrate that. Images like this make me think that although we like to see ourselves as civilised we are still as barbaric as our ancestors. I agree totally with the vatican, reflection is what is needed. We should not be celebrating we should be sad that hatred exists and that a man’s life had to be taken in this way when there was so much more he could do for the world spreading love instead of hate.

Yes! Christianity teaches that we must never rejoice at what befalls others.
I am certain that if someone had done you harm and something bad occurred to him/her you would rejoice. There are those who could be hypocrites, do as I say but do not do what I do.
I am not one who rejoices because someone died or was murdered. However, this is a different case of such a man who was wanted by the U.S., dead or alive for murdering thousands of people worldwide. Note the difference. People’s reaction cannot be subdued.
A dear Dominican elderly lady once told me: “The word of the people is the word of God.” Indeed! The majority counts.
They are rejoicing because an evil person is dead. He was the primary perpetrator of murdering over 3,000 people on 9-11, among them were two Dominicans, a man and a woman.
It is to be expected that people will rejoice. If they had caught Osama bin Laden, they would have murdered him for he was a wanted man. Therefore, do not expect the world to weep and mourn for this man. I would or other Christians should weep and mourn that his soul is lost forever for murdering thousands of people, for spending his life in wickedness of the heart.

The catholic church suffers from a conveniently short memory. There was no rejoicing at the fate of those martyrs put to death, for their beliefs, by the Vatican’s infamous inquisition? The lessons of history should never be forgotten, especially by a christian church that calls itself holy!

How you know Bin Laden going to hell? You know what happened a few seconds before he died? God not man, and grants forgiveness even at the moment of death.
