British actress attacked by serial rapist in Barbados says island’s police were ‘only concerned with tourist image’

Hilary Heath. Photo credit: Daily Mail

A British former actress savagely attacked in her Barbados home by a serial rapist claims the island’s police failed to warn the public about the string of attacks – and were ‘apparently only concerned with the image of Barbados tourism’.

Hilary Heath, who appeared in films including Wuthering Heights and television series The Avengers, has formally complained alongside two other British victims about the police investigation. They other women, in their twenties, were attacked by the same man after Mrs Heath’s ordeal.

She says she had to beg for DNA swabs to be taken when she went to hospital, officers failed to seize vital evidence such as her bed sheets and items handled by the rapist for forensic clues, and a statement taken from her was ‘barely literate’.

i contemplated on wether you are even worth a response. let me waste my time witha peson of no reasoning

how on earth can you compare the alleged kidanpp of the young lady to a case where the police force was trying their best to hide evidence. are you insane. did you ot read, the lady had to plead for dna evidence to be taken.

can you imaginge being savagely raped, you go to the law and the law is trying their best to cover it up because they want their country to have a good image?

The place in itself should not be cried down. The manner in which the Barbados Police and hospital staff handled this situation is appalling. They who should be experienced and are supposedly experts in their fields do deserve to be criticized.
Every country has criminals, no matter what the size and population. Dominica has had its fair share per population and no doubt is continuing to have its share of criminals. Therefore, the critics should be careful not to generalize nationals of a country when crimes occur there. They should know that everyone in a country is not one and the same. There is a tendency for some people to make comments against the entire population. It does project ignorance and is unkind. They should address the issue and not sway away from the subject and what occurred.
Then, there are those who are always blaming the Police as if they can protect the entire population. We must help ourselves too. In fact, as citizens we are to help the Police and to decrease crimes as everyone performs his/her societal duty by being alert to what takes place around us and in our vicinity. We do not have get involved with criminals and apprehend them since we do not have the authority to do so. It could cause harm to us. Just notify the Police if we observe such strange goings-on as criminal activities. Too often people ignore them. Then we hope that the Police will respond as soon as possible – ASAP. The Police cannot do it alone and we cannot do it alone. We are the world and each of us needs each other, those in authority or not.
It is difficult for the Police to be everywhere. The Police cannot per se protect people. People have to protect themselves or at least do their utmost accordingly.
We reside in an era that we must be careful whom we open our doors to, specifically in a big country. In fact, we should not open our doors at all to knocks or every knock and also depending on the time of day and night if we do not expect company.
There are still those as the elderly who are not listening to the wise advice of Police authorities as relayed through the general Media. It may be that some of them do not listen to and read the news or that they are absent-minded.
We must also pray to God for protection. If we do not ask for God’s help we may not get it.
If we worship Him and pray to Him with a good, loving, humble heart and mind not only for ourselves but for others as well, we may just be protected from evil elements. God does not appreciate selfish and self-centered people including those who lack love and humility. I am emphatically stating that those prayers will not be answered.
I heard a recording of a man on Catholic Radio who stated: “Before God healed him. He healed his soul.” Everyone should comprehend this. His is one great story.
There are those who state that they pray and God did not answer their prayers. It depends on the state of our soul and the type of heart and mind which we possess and how well we pray, patiently or not. In addition, God will answer prayers as He sees fit.
The Mother of God, The Ever Blessed Virgin Mary said in one of her messages: “If it is the Adorable Will of her Blessed Son it will be granted.” Our Lord Jesus Christ said to a visionary: “If it is good for our soul it will be granted.” Those messages are for each and every one of us in the world as God’s children whom He created.
When we pray, we pray with confidence and know that it will be granted. We leave it all at the Feet of Jesus. He will do with those prayers as He wills and sees fit. We also need to ask Him for graces/virtues, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. There are those who do not ask which is why they project impatience even in reading and other matters as insulting those who comment on this Website. If they do this in public for all to read, what would they not do and say in private?
Patience is one of the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. How religious are those people who claim to be Christians and practicing ones at that? As a book which is entitled: “Your attitude is showing” in your words and statements.
God inspires. For instance, if I enter a building which has an elevator and I notice that some people especially men are entering it with me I do not enter the elevator. This is, if I do not know them. I pretend that I am going elsewhere in the building, just by taking a walk in the hallway. We must always be alert wherever we are. There are times if I do, I may make a joke and say: “I hope I am safe with you.” Be it one person or more. If they had evil intentions it will put an obstacle in their way.
Oh! And while I am in the elevator I silently say a pray to my Guardian Angel and St. Michael the Archangel (also when I am outdoors), the latter who threw Satan out of Heaven due to his disobedience and rebelliousness to God. The prayers are powerful. Depending on our mood I suppose, it also pays to smile or just say a kind word. This may help.
Our windows and doors must be properly secured specifically when we are sleeping and when we are going out.
I listen to and read the news. I am not insinuating that I will always be safe specifically when I am out in the public domain. However, I do my utmost to be alert. It is said: “God help those who help themselves.”
This woman has a million dollar house in Barbados which is no doubt one Porsche house with expensive furniture, etc. In this ever increasing godless, capitalist, materialistic world, the great apostasy and worship of material possessions as money, the almighty dollar, I am wondering if she recognizes God, worships Him and prays to Him much more to ask for His protection day and night.
Satan is not sleeping day and night he is up and around, enticing the godless and evil ones, predators to go about seeking their next victim. They never get tired of performing evil.
Many people worldwide go about helping others, saying that they are doing good works and they are atheists and agnostics. It is stated in Holy Scriptures: “We cannot please God if we do not believe that He exists…We cannot approach Him either if we do not believe in Him”. Their efforts could be in vain or are just band-aid/temporary assistance and solutions. All our good works must be done in Jesus’ Name to be fruitful and successful.
If I am walking alone and I happen to notice someone and again a man (some women are no better) walking behind me, he/she may mean no harm nevertheless I take no chances, I pretend to turn around and look at that person. It is said, “Let them see that you are looking at them.” If you project fear, they will act evilly as they possess the spirit of Satan which surrounds them and permeates their heart, mind and soul. This is the cause of all evil, whether small or great in the world.
We were once advised by a Police who came to the work place to demonstrate with pictures about the type of criminals and what to do, how to act and to be alert at all times. There are those who appear not to have a good memory and they soon forget what they hear which is important and necessary and to benefit them.
Prior to going out I ask God to protect me and be with me. I also bless myself with Holy Water. I do have a little bottle in my purse. I like to state, it is like the American Express advertisement/commercial for credit cards: “Don’t leave home without it.” Even when I cross the street with heavy traffic and when I return home I thank God for His protection. God appreciates sincere gratitude just as we do and expect of others. It is said: “Gratitude to people is gratitude to God and vice versa.”
In addition, I am a Catholic Christian and I read relevant matters of my faith. The Mother of God has been appearing to some visionaries through the years. One of her messages among many is: “Restore the use of Holy Water in your home. Wear blest religious articles day and night to show Satan whose side you are on. Read Holy Scriptures daily and live it.” …And there are more messages.
There are those who scoff at that and think the Holy Water and blest articles cannot even help to protect us. How wrong they are due to their lack of mortal and spiritual enlightenment. I can testify to its importance of using it. It is of great wealth for our health and welfare. As the Priests bless the Holy Water, God has blest it on high. Never underestimate the Holy Water and never underestimate God and His Power. Furthermore, He has approved the usage of the Holy Water. If more Catholics would use it, they would see the difference in their lives, their heart and home.
I have found that Holy Water grants peace of heart and peace in the home. It is not to be used for superstitious reasons or with superstitious articles for it will not work.
When we pray to God, we pray to God. We cannot pray to God and still believe in superstition and dabble in superstitious matters. We cannot be of two minds. We will be neither here nor there. This offends God as well. Our prayers to God will not work. St. Paul said: “Let your yes be yes and your no be no.” This should tell us much.
We are to respect the faith and devotions of everyone. The Catholic Church has the answers from the day God sent His Son to earth…And when He, Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “Thou art Peter and upon this Rock I will build My Church…” Then after the Apostles commenced preaching and Catholic Churches were built to accommodate the increased population down through the ages until the end of time. This has been the intention of God from the time He created Heaven, Earth and human beings. God has ordained It to be. He has given His mark and approval on It.
Our Lord said: “The Gates of Hell shall not prevail against It for I am with you always even unto the consummation of the world.” No matter what befalls It, It will stand firm until the end of time. God will ensure that for He does not rescind His words and promises. No one can fight against God and what He has ordained. They will never win.
God bless you! Have a great day!

Wait, the people commenting on this and bashing Bajans as the worst thing come from the same island as Sherman Webb?

As in the accused satanic, homosexual murderer who allegedly killed a Bajan? In case, you forget, here is the link below.

    http://dominicanewsonline.com/dno/breaking-news-sherman-webb-charged-with-murder-of-barbadian/

Because Dominica is full of saints and only Bajans are wicked right? Psssshhhh – most of these comments show the same hypocrisy and pridefulness you are accusing Bajans of.

    • ...........
      April 6, 2011

That is the same thing I was saying. Dominica is apparently full of saints. They don’t commit rape, murder or other heinous crimes.

They do not relate to ‘crime’ anymore as everyone gets away with whatever they commit these days.

Sherman webb killed his ownself coming to DA to check his scene undercover. How you never meet a man yet you coming to have intimate relations with him? Show you the true colors of bajan men…. take responsibility for your own actions . But yah DA have its on problems.

Are some of these comments coming from the same country that has just had a young girl kidnapped in the bush by a man for 40 days? Believe it or not that news item was carried in Barbados. Did we hear a bunch of negative comments coming from Bds towards us? By the way the man that commited the rape of the tourist was captured shortly after & is serving a lengthy sentence.
Please lets not show our insular ignorance.

    April 6, 2011

Have to laugh at we Dominicans. A few news items appear about Barbados & we crying down the place. Don’t we realise that Dominica has more murders & rapes than Barbados per capita? Don’t we realise that there are sometimes more tourist in Barbados than people in Dominica & therefore the chances of something happening to them is far greater.
Why must we continue to show our “crab in the barrel” attitudes to the world. It is so obvious to the outside world reading our comments that we are enjoying these negatives about a sister island because we are jealous of their success & want to pull them down to our level. Grow up brothers.

How are we sure the comments are coming from Dominicans? This is the world wide web and the comments could come from anyone in any part of the world. I am not in any way condoning the negative comments made towards Barbados, just wanted to remind the readership that Dominicans are not the only nationals who have access to, and do utilize that access, to news items made on DNO.
The old adage still applies: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Stay blessed and positive. Remember Righteousness exhalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” God bless.

It appears that there is a lack of experienced Police and hospital staff. They care only for their tourist image? Well, the news is out and the world will hear about it. The police should make a concerted effort to search for that serial rapist and throw him into prison for the rest of his life.

In Dominica as well. Just look at all those murderers walking on the street, playing in band and eating sometimes right across the street for their victims home like nothing happen.

How often do you read the Nation or the Advocate? I do so almost daily. Whenever there is a murder or other serious crime it is reported. However, like the rest of the Caribbean islands not every robbery or other pettyl crime is reported. Many other islands do everything to protect their tourism product. Do we know of every robbery or rape that takes place in Dominica? I lived in Barbados in the 70s and 80s, when criminal activity was at a high. There has been a significant reduction in crime since. Let’s stop the bashing.

All that just to protect their tourism industry…B/jans take note the chickens coming home to roost……

On the issue of the Jamaican woman, i wouldnt be suprised that they did what she said the officials did, with all the CSME talk and thing about hassle free and free movement of persons, they dont want other members of CARICOM to come to Barbados, ask the Guyanese the amount of problems they hve, ask the students from the other countries in the region who go to UWI.

Wake up Barbados. Pride comes before a fall. Barbados has a problem when it comes to humility and saying ‘ I am sorry’
