A British member of parliament was shot dead in the street on Thursday, causing deep shock across Britain and the suspension of campaigning for next week’s referendum on the country’s EU membership.

Jo Cox, 41, a lawmaker for the opposition Labour Party and a vocal advocate for Britain remaining in the European Union, was attacked while preparing to meet constituents in Birstall near Leeds in northern England.

Media reports said she had been shot and stabbed. West Yorkshire regional police said a 52-year-old man was arrested by officers nearby and weapons including a firearm recovered. “We are not in a position to discuss any motive at this time,” said Temporary Chief Constable Dee Collins.

One witness said a man pulled an old or makeshift gun from a bag and fired twice. “I saw a lady on the floor like on the beach with her arms straight and her knees up and blood all over the face,” Hichem Ben-Abdallah told reporters. “She wasn’t making any noise, but clearly she was in agony.”

There are too many guns in the world, the US, Canada and Europe of all. People are using them indiscriminately on others whether politicians or not. There are some people who should not have a licensed gun. Of course, some do not have a license, either they stole them or purchase them on the black market and on streets.
The situation is bad. This weekend alone in Toronto, so far I heard there were approximately 5 shootings in different parts of the city. One was at a night club. Some of us fear going to nightclubs; clubs for that matter and parties. They are not safe. Most people as I usually stick to home entertainment as also dinner parties.
The good old days are gone when we would go out, especially at weekends and have much fun. The criminals have spoiled it for the law-abiding people.
As the world progresses, I am certain those good old days will not return, I believe unless the Lord comes to re-claim His world.

How shocking and sad! It also made news in Canada; no doubt in the US.
The saddest part is losing a loved one in such a manner and an advocate for fairness. She tried. Someone or some people hated her.
My heartfelt sympathy to her family.
May her soul rest in peace. Amen!

What a beautiful smile and lovely dimples! It is crucial to find out what motivated such a wasteful act.

Now from what I read, the suspect shouted “Britain first” before shooting. The patriotic group associated with that slogan distanced itself from the act calling it disgusting etc.

I don’t want to sound like a stuck record but I am saying that the leaders may not themselves commit particular violent acts but depending on their rhetoric (I’m not saying this group engaged in any rhetoric, I do not know that), simple-minded or easily influenced supporters may just act upon what they hear.

I believe there was reason to conclude that some years ago, the congress woman in the USA who was shot and nearly killed might have been targetted by a zealous supporter of a party with opposing views. Be careful my people! Peace and love!

I am trying to sound a warning to our people here to be careful of the rhetoric of violence and hate as it can be dangerous and have far reaching consequences. I hope my warning never comes to pass!

She was a rising political star ,she made poverty and equal rights a main issue in her speeches, her death is another example of man’s cruelty to man.Now the parliament is at a halt and will be recalled on Monday in respect to the Labour MP Jo Cox’s death, all political representatives are now paying tribute to her in there town where she lost her life working for others..Hope such a cruel act will never be repeated .Politics have become toxic,so toxic that political leaders disrespect those who are part of the opposition party, politics is working for all even though some may not support you… May her soul rest in peace..
