China to construct 56 airports in five years

In recent times, China has increased its investment in airports. From 2005 to 2010, 33 new airports were constructed while an additional 33 facilities were renovated or expanded. There are currently 175 active airports in China.

GUIYANG, CHINA (BNO NEWS) — The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Thursday announced that 56 airports will be constricted in the next five years to expand the country’s transport capacity, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Li Jiaxiang, head of the CAAC, said that China plans to increase its capacity to transport an estimated 450 million passengers each year. In order to reach this goal, 1.5 trillion Yuan ($230 billion) will be invested in the next 5 years.

With this major investment in China’s aviation industry, the number of airports in the world’s most populous nation is expected to be around 230 facilities while the aircraft fleet will likely be over 4,500 units.

In recent times, China has increased its investment in airports. From 2005 to 2010, 33 new airports were constructed while an additional 33 facilities were renovated or expanded. There are currently 175 active airports in China.

On January 19, the Chinese government approved a $19 billion aircraft agreement with Boeing for 200 aircraft to be delivered over a three-year period (2011-2013). The deal helped Boeing to maintain and expand its market share in the world’s fastest growing commercial aircraft market.

In November 2010, Boeing projected that China is expected to become the world’s number two plane market over the next 20 years. Boeing jets in China’s air travel and cargo system represent more than 50 percent of all commercial jetliners operating in the Asian country.

 Correction – China to build 56 airports in five years? These are a lot of airports. Well, if they have the money why not!

I agree with your comment, but you said correction where it is just a word choice. There were no grammer mistakes in DNO heading.

      To construct-To build

They both say to which indicates it has not been built.

China to construct 5 airports in the future! Wow! China has a lot of money and is rather generous and kind to those countries. We hope and pray that there are no ties and conditions to this help.
I certainly wished that the democratic countries, US, Canada and Europe, were as generous as China. They are lagging behind in genuine generosity and kindness.

I’m tired of hearing that we need an international airport in Dominica.

My fellow Dominicans, what we really need is an increase in the number of people who want (or need) to come to Dominica on a regular basis. What I speak of is increased market demand. Too often when we speak of an international airport we refer only to the supply side of the equation. Just as important, or even more so, is the demand for the service or the proposed project.

Let us be honest; the increased travel during peak times (summer, Independence, Christmas and Carnival) does not justify the expense of an international airport.

Here is how a simple market works (in general terms): consumers have a sustainable want or need => service providers (businesses) attempt to fill that void => more companies join in the pursuit of profit (or consumer satisfaction)… As I said, it is a simplified example.

If we look at our sister countries like Antigua, St. Lucia or Barbados, you can see clearly that they need (more than we do) an international airport due to significant economic activity (tourism, business ventures, returning nationals, etc). Simply stated, our numbers cannot match theirs. Also, if you have to look back, you’ll find out that the international airports came with the steady increase in economic activity and NOT before the increase.

So in closing, let us focus not on building an airport; let us build our economy, create viable businesses, extend our current businesses, create legislation that enables and encourages businesses, develop our tourism product, etc. As the “real” need for increased air access arises, the government will be more justified in seeking funding for an international airport.

You sound very negative towards improvement-Ecconomy building up needs mototability to sustain stability and revenue. Dominica for sure, lacks this.

However, to be more competetive we need to have resources in place which will generate/build up our ecconomy-such as a direct aviation route rather than that jump on jump off system we currently have.To be truthfull that means transportation have long expire their bygone years.

Another thing to remember,Dominica is the most naturally green island in the carribean and the chinese loves the green.so my friend ,you should welcome their generousity if they decided to invest if that is what, the story tells.

      Respect……

        April 8, 2011

        lol yah MELVILLE!!! LOL

Milville hall can take cargo jets and there have been times jet airlines landed there. If they could find a way to level the land more and divert the river or mayb dig the river deeper and build an overpass connecting the runway that could work.. have maybe 2 or 3 terminals for inti flights. then we wouldn’t need an inti airport lol but technicaly this would be one just a cheaper version.

I don’t see the reason why the government is not considering building an international airport in Dominica; they wasted all that money upgrading the airport, and hardly receiving night landing, I think what the government should do now, if he is not consider building an international airport, extend the runway three more thousand feet… St Marten has the lowest landing airport in the world and the shortest runway in the world for an international airport, and all different sizes’ of jet landing there, include the 747. The runway are so short; the tower control make sure warning the pilot, telling them because the runway is just over seven thousand feet long, pleased try and land as close to begging of the runway. The maximum length of an international runway is nine thousand feet.

          April 8, 2011

How old are you? … yes when Mamo was in power in the 1980 – 1995 era, the opposition people at this time wrote to tell them not to interfere in the domestic affairs of our country and also that the Airport building would affect the coming general elections. Probably you are too young to remember. If you are then ask Mammy or daddy!

I thought Papa Dom was a middle age like me   :)
