A Kenyan mother who gave birth to twin boys on Wednesday named her new-born children after the president re-elect and his defeated Republican rival.
According to Kenya’s Standard newspaper 20-year-old Millicent Owour delivered the twin boys in a district hospital in the town of Siaya in Southwest Kenya and named them Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
The area is not far from Obama’s ancestral home village of Kogelo.
A joyful Owour posed for photographers holding her bundles of joy, with Barack wrapped in white and Mitt in navy blue.
She told reporters that she did so in order to remember the day of the election.
Obama’s victory in the presidential race on Tuesday signifies fresh hopes for Africa, as many residents there see his re-election as a boost for Kenya-U.S. relations, Reuters reports.

I only just read the story this morning on msn and while I understand why anyone would name their baby after the first black President, I was surprised she had not gone with Barack for one of the babies and Obama for the other one. She is Kenyan and so was Barack Obama’s father so I do get it but ‘Romney?’ (msn.com has ‘Romney’ not Mitt. That doesn’t matter anyways). One the winner and the other the loser (not the babies; the candidates). Plus Mitt Romney does not even care for poor people! Remember 47%? Hopefully someone explains to her how that could hurt her children especially the one named Romney. What beautiful babies though :-)
