MADRID (BNO NEWS) — A moderate earthquake struck southeastern Spain on early Wednesday evening, seismologists said, killing at least seven people.
The 5.2-magnitude earthquake at 6.47 p.m. local time (1647 GMT) was centered about 6 kilometers southwest of Lorca, a small town in the autonomous community of Murcia. It struck about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
The Madrid-based ABC newspaper said at least seven people were killed after a number of buildings had collapsed, adding that others were injured. Local television stations showed debris scattered on streets.
If this is a moderate earthquake which killed 7 people and damaged property, consider what a bigger one could do.
In June last year Toronto had an earthquake which measured 5.0. This earthquake originated from Quebec and traveled to Toronto, certain parts of Ontario and to some parts of the U.S. I was indoors and had planned to go out later. I was in the kitchen preparing a salad at the time. Suddenly I noticed the place swaying. My mind was blank, no doubt in shock as I stood and looked around to see the fridge, stove, kitchen counter and a stand in the hallway moving. I wondered, “What is causing that!” Then the thought crossed my mind, “It is an earthquake!” I would think that this could probably be my Guardian Angel or a holy spirit who enlightened me about it. When I realized that it is an earthquake I got scared. All I could do was to pray to God for mercy and help. Then the swaying ceased.
I tuned in to a local TV Station and observed that people were being interviewed and giving an account of their experience and where they were at the time of the earthquake. Some parts of Ontario experienced it prior to Toronto.
I have not forgotten this earthquake. I pray that we will not have another one and not a bigger one.
This is the fourth time Toronto has had an earthquake but not as bad as the one last year.
May God help us.
Signs of the time, they are appearing everywhere.
