Mother hands over 15-yr-old son to the British Police for looting

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested for looting after his mother handed him in to police as the hunt goes on for more suspects.

The woman saw pictures of rioters trying to pry open the shutters of a shop in Salford as the shopping precinct was being looted on Tuesday evening.

She recognised her son as one of the looters and took him to the local police station.

He is now under arrest on suspicion of burglary.

The boy is one of more than 200 people arrested across Manchester, Salford and Liverpool during the rioting earlier this week.

Garry Shewan, assistant chief constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), said: “The parent saw the picture of her son and was absolutely appalled, horrified and angry.

“What she did is extremely admirable and I thank her for handing him in to local officers as it must have been a hard thing to do.

“I would urge members of the community who were left angered by the events of Tuesday night and believe they know of those involved to contact police as soon as possible.”

Police in Manchester have now made 176 arrests following the rioting in the city and in neighbouring Salford on Tuesday night.

They made 37 arrests yesterday. Some suspects were held in raids after looters were identified from CCTV and other images taken during the trouble.

Looted goods including stolen jeans, watches, camera equipment and other property have been recovered.

There was a “significant” police presence on the streets of Greater Manchester last night and no incidents of disorder were reported.

It was also quiet in Liverpool, where riots erupted over two nights in the south of the city.

Merseyside Police have made around 50 arrests to date and released more CCTV stills today of suspects they want to trace. They have set up a dedicated email address for anyone wanting to share information about those involved or to submit their own images or footage of the disorder.

Andy Ward, assistant chief constable of Merseyside Police, said: “The public have an important part to play and I would urge everyone to look at the images in the media and tell us who these offenders are and where we can find them so they can be brought to justice.”

Do you guys seriously think of the horror that child may go through if he gets a custodial sentence? There is a serious prison overcrowding problem in the UK. This child may be locked up among seasoned criminals, who may take advantage of him because of his age. They may sexually, physically, and or mentally abuse the boy. He may be forced to use drugs, to learn crime or gang culture. He may come out as someone whom the mother won’t recognise as her son.

If I were the mother, I would send my son off to family in another country. Children should be protected.

The people in public office in the UK commit much more serious crimes than that of the rioters, and they get away with a slap on the wrist. Phone hacking scandal, Cameron was directly involved, but he is now locking up kids for stealing mobile phones.
I live there, I hear the cries of desperation from the youth. They have been alienated for a generation by their government institutions. The prime minister calls the youth of the UK , thugs, criminals, chavs, just wait…you will soon hear him call them animals.

As difficult as it must be to hand over one’s child to the police, I agree with the posters below: the mother did the right thing, from both a legal and ethical perspective. It is easy to say that, and yet, if you imagine your own child as the one you saw on video in the looting, the mother’s strength in her decision is even more evident and admirable.

I just hope this spate of violence will fade away soon–it isn’t what Britain needs right now.

More parents need to be vigilant with their children. Even if they dont see their child on tv, they should wonder where the flat screen tv or the new sneakers come from all of a sudden.
