A Zimbabwean woman was found guilty in court for disobeying traditional customs of not giving her husband the best part of a chicken during meal time.
According to traditional customs in Zimbabwe, a man is expected to be given the drumsticks and breast of a chicken during meals but a local newspaper reported that Nomusa Sibanda, 24, gave her husband the gizzard, wings and one drumstick while she kept the breast and another drumstick for herself.
This infuriated her husband, 40-year-old Jabulani Ncube, who gave her a sound beating before she fled to her grandmother’s home. He then took his wife to a village court where he complained that she was disrespectful and warned that should she fail to give him the best part of the chicken again, he would divorce her.
He told the court that his wife was “uncultured and disrespectful.”
But the young wife was unrepentant. “How long shall I slaughter chickens and not taste the back portion?” she asked.
She was fined one chicken while her grandmother was found guilty of failing to teach the young lady how “to treat her husband and dish out meals”.

WOW it was surprising that Dominicans actually posted this. It was in the news a few days ago. To those who understand our culture, they will understand the joke behind this story. That article was put up solely for entertainment purposes. I was amused at the ignorance shared by the many people who commented on this story. There are a lot of misconceptions about Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole and that’s the way of the world. What is true is that our cultures are very diverse,we are all different. I do not think it mattered to him to give his wife the best part of the meat, neither would it matter to our mother. That just did not matter to any of us–good heavens! My mom and dad are still together in their old days–50 years of marriage come January 2013.

I have not heard and read about it. Furthermore the PM is not the one who would do this. The pastor may have committed an offence. He was taken to Court and jailed. The judge sent him to prison, if that is true. The story may be different.

In my case I do not like the white meat of the chicken, which is mostly the breast. So him and I would simply lick the platter clean, because he would simply have the breast every night, and I would take the legs. Hehehehehehehehehe!
But I am serious! When I order chicken from the restaurant, I alwsys insist that they give me dark meat, which is the wing, drumstick, and thighs. And I don’t just take what they put in the bag either, because sometimes they are not honest. And so, I make sure that I check before I leave the restaurant to avoid getting tricked when it is already too late.

I hate to burst the thunder cloud over your statement but Dominican men treat Dominican women just the same in Dominica and abroad. Men are men where ever they roam and women are the ones who need to stick up for themselves. It borders on insecurities,plain ignorance and wickedness. I grew up in a Dominica where if a woman didn’t have a potanse food on table to his liking is blows like old clothes. Men would go to work, play dominoes come back home and expect gravy in one plate, rice in one, peas on a side etc, the biggest and best part of the meat is theirs, the whole tin of cornbeef is theirs and kids getting scraps, a whole mastiff and the woman still have to wash iron and cook, carry water and they under tree or by bay running their trap and sleeping around. Let’s not be hypochrite.
I do cringe myself when I see certain women with men in these parts that we all know they would never say hi to these men in Dominica. Many people emblish stories about their husbands/boyfriends/wives/Girlfriends when they go home to erase the lies. Many Dominican women are married to ex-cons, or revolving jail birds but you never hear that story. Likewise many Dominican men will date even breed a Dominican woman and then find a coshunie from some other island or part of the world to wife up and pretend he has won gold. It goes both ways, and all ways.

Empresskz you are absolutely right and if I do remember correctly, it was even regarded as the norm as no one did anything about it. Growing up as a little girl that is all I experienced at home when my pop use to show up drunk and troubling the home; likewise, many of the men in that village did the same and it continues to date.
Furthermore, abuse is not only limited to physical beatings but emotional as well. Many (99%) of Dominican men married or not each has at minimum, one other woman. That constitutes emotional abuse.

Columbus took nobody away from Africa. He just discovered a route which later captains used to ply the slave trade. And if the Indians could have been subjugated successfully, they wouldn’t have bothered. No excuse for colonialism and slavery, but it was Africans that first rounded up their brothers in West Africa and sold them into bondage.
Yes I thank God for the Slave trade.. then I would not be born here in this part of the World. I tahnk God that I amin a country where those kind of traditions are a no no here. Well said. I agree wholeheartedly, Dominicans do not know what they have because they are being hoodwinked to believe that the Dominica economy is the worst, and the Government useless. We have to look at the larger picture and see what we have and do not try to compare with anyone else.
