Caribbean students to benefit from new legislation in California

The California Legislature is poised to pass a law that would allow illegal Caribbean immigrants to receive state-financed aid for college.

Known as the California Dream Act, immigration advocates say the bill underscores the ways states are navigating their own way through controversial immigration issues, as the Obama administration has been unable to make headway on plans for an overhaul of immigration laws.

While the California state law would do nothing to provide a path to citizenship for illegal Caribbean and other immigrants, it would provide them with more education benefits than they have in any other state, advocates say.

    wow so much for america not being interested in helping…….lets see if we are interested in helping ourselves… i know this will not be enough for some egwah dominicans who will still criticize.

    Calif. is already bankrupt. It will be interesting to see how the govt. plans to collect on the student financial aid to non-nationals.

    Mr Obama you have failed the minorities that voted for yOu in 2008. Can’t get my vote in 2012. Too many Caribbean and Black people are waiting on your immigration policies!!!
    Sorry this is not about black or white, it is about your failed promises.
