Foreign policy based on mutual respect – PM

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that Dominica’s foreign policy is based on sincerity and openness and it will continue to be the driving force of the country’s national policy.

He also said it is characterized by mutual respect.

During an end of year interview with GIS’s Mervin Paul, the prime minister likened foreign policy to a human being living in a community. “If you live in a village and you are vex with everybody, I mean if your house is on fire, it is likely that nobody would come to your rescue but if you are surrounded by friends, anything that happens to your home or to your family, these people will be the first to come forward,” he pointed out.  “There has to be reciprocity.”

The Prime Minister said in 2012, Dominica was able to establish new friendships with a number of nations and was able to maintain existing friendships.

“I must say that the friendship that we have cultivated, these people have remained sincere to us and they continue to assist us in the face of their own challenges.  When we take a country like Venezuela or the European Union, for example, who have all these challenges and are still prepared to assist us, it tells you about the extent to which they view Dominica and Dominicans and the relationship that the Government has with them and we will continue this way,” he noted.

He went on to say that many people normally ask what is Dominica giving to these countries. “What we’re giving them is friendship and solidarity,” the Prime Minister argued.  “China has more poverty than Dominica but because of friendship, solidarity and complementarity, they have some resources that they are willing to share with us.”

Skerrit remarked that Dominica will seek cooperation with new countries in 2013 and will continue its firm stance on its foreign policy as decisions are being taken in the best interest of the country.

I would like to know when the PM is going realize that Dominica is sinking. Does he think that Dominica is his play ground where he could toss everything wherever, and whenever he wants? If he is a dictator, have he not yet realize that every dictators life does not end well for how they treat their people. Empires rise and fall, but at the end what did it profit those that was in control. Please Mr. PM you have a brain and do you think we Dominicans are all foolish. Did you here Governor Christy of New Jersey how hard he came out on his own Republican Party fro having the Whole United States in limbo. When you are keeping the people blind, and they are seeing you always away or signing with all different countries without the people knowing, you do not want them to be angry and feel disrespected. Please Mr.PM, please be more transparent and let the people u so love know what’s going on. Is Dominica for sale, or have it be sold already. This is 2013′ got to know the people more by going into their communities and being humble, mix with them close and not at a distance. We know no man can solve all of the worlds problem, but they voted you in to help, not to destroy them. Where do we go from here? We want answers, we want to know.

Skerrit your foriegn policy is based on opportunism and mendincancy, begging, and what Morris Bishop called Yard Fowl politics.
You should be reminded that diplomatic relationship with Venezuela, the EU and Cuba, preceded you, and there was real mutual respect.

    PM Skerrit SLURS ELCTORATE

LISTEN up people. Why would you even want to hear the responses from the PRIME MINISTER. It doesn’t make any sense as most of the times all he does is lie to his bosses and insults his bosses (WE the People)
I have lost all respect for this man. This guy continues to be verbally insultive to the people of Dominica. Now why hasn’t someone openly challenged him on this?
It is embarrassing when foreigners ask how could your prime minister openly insult and cuss off his won people.
Honestly this is really getting to me. I cannot seem to understand why so many people still support this man when he obviously sees us as idiots? It’s like a man who has been verbally/physically abusing his wife for a number of years but she stays with him because he gives her money.

It is refreshing to see how a small country like Dominica can stand up to the might of the USA influence on the Palestinian issue, at the UN. On principal it is the right thing to do since the Palestinians should have a right to self-determination, human rights and dignity, the same as other people in the world. Obama has been a big disappoint on the Palestinian issue, in favour of continued Israeli occupation and oppression of the Palestinians.
    Well Done mr PM!

We hope that 2013 will be productive for Dominica PM. We hope there will be more transparency with the people of Dominica. It is not a joke to have a whole country in the palm of your hand. We have a future to leave for our children. Please Mr. PM, we hope u will get closer to the people of this country. Get to know them more and not at a distance. We have to have each others back. Everyone have their own minds, but we are all in this together. One day the rubber will finally hit the road. U don’t only have to answer to the people in DOMINICA, but to the Lord God Almighty. United we stand divided we fall. We might not see eye to eye in many things, but for the common goal of the human race, we have to COMPROMISE. Is not a ONE MAN BAND, else we all will perish. 2031 is a year we should learn from our mistakes and correct them and not repeat the same old, same old.

Blessings to ALL DOMINICAN’S, BIGH AND SMALL. “GOD BLESS U ALL.” Let’s move forward forever, ‘CONSTRUCTIVELY’.

He, Mr. Skeritt needs to stop hiding the MOU and needs to be open and transparent and honest with the people of Dominica about its content!!!!! Then maybe we will be able to truly say ‘YES, LOOK!! THIS IS AN HONEST, OPEN AND TRANSPARENT PARTNERSHIP FROM WHICH WE BENEFIT LONG-TERM.’ What I am not prepared to accept is HIS word that it is ALL beneficial to us as there is too much which he, in other areas of governance, seems to want to not reveal. If you are not honest in small matters then how can we trust you to negotiate bigger matters to our benefit and our benefit only?? There are just too many unanswered questions, too much secrecy, propaganda and above all ARROGANCE!!!!!! Come clean PM, STOP HIDING THE MOU!!

Foreign Policy with these Countries are directly to The Labour Party to fund upcoming Election Campaign
    And for Labour Cronies…

As Dominica has never seen Poverty so HIGH in it’s History!!

Labour has to be removed at all cost, so that Dominica can Breath a wind of Change in 2013

Mr Skerrit this kind of cheap rhetoric is for you and Mervin and the others who grovel to you, while they are calling you God at the same time. What we have gotten from the relationship is poverty, the demise of our business sector, massive unemployment with its
    spiral effects of crime,drugs,paros,guns,kidnappings,etc.
If the regime which you lead Sir had any love for country, tell me where on earth would it take
$27 000 000 loan money and build a State Devil instead of investing this money in areas to grow the economy. Your rule as PM has been the worst we have seen on island, and in the Caribbean. This is indicative by the fact that we cannot as a country attract the type of investment that the other sister islands are attracting in profusion.Your reign has been characterised by a myriad of unanswered questions, which one day will be brought to light, whether you like it or not.
Shame on the 17 other pieces of plastic who are giving you support to drive this country to its knees, and are remaining MOO MOO.
May the court “Give you the Boot” next Month Sir! Bye and Good Day.

    ****ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER****

These are very interesting choice of words; “sincerity and openness”.

That’s what we wanted in the dual citizenship case. But even today we are still short of getting the truth/sincerity about your side.

That’s all we really want in our government. I suppose that’s asking for too much!!

    -Thanks

    December 31, 2012

Actually, the PM may be right with regard to what he “said” about the establishment and functioning of diplomatic relations. However, to say that sincerity and transparency guides his national policy is a far cry from the reality.

To those who may think that Roseau Valley is being to critical of Mr. Skerrit and his government, just ask yourself who
    – pleaded self-incrimination when the county and the Justice system pleaded with him to come clean to avoid a national consituional

    • ROSEAU VALLEY
      December 31, 2012

      Crisis
      – who has failed to make the MOU with China public?
-who has been so insincere in ensuring that the police and the justice system function as they ought to?
      – who has been so insincere, dishonest and non-transparent with the IPO?
      – who has not been sincere, honest and transparent when it comes to our national security?
Who has not been transparent with the Registry in terms of taxes on land purchases?
-who has repeatedly failed to be sincere and respectfully to our national laws and constitution?
who has repeatedly harbored secrets about the sale of our passports to questionable international characters?
      Etc. etc. etc.

The answers to all the above will provide the truth about who has been sincere and transparent with regard to our national governance.

      Respectfully

    And can it be…

Respect means lots of different things to different people. Lewis Carroll has the definition I love best, so down the Rabbit Hole to Wonderland I go to visit with Alice and Humpty Dumpty in Carroll’s timeless classic, Alice in Wonderland.”

You see, Humpty has a knack for making words mean exactly what he wants them to mean. He scornfully tells Alice that when he uses a word it means just what he chose it to mean – no more or no less. Alice becomes curious whether Humpty can make words do so many different things. And then Humpty brings up the not so delicate issue of money and extra pay…. given to the words for doing the work… “you should see them come around on a Saturday night… to get their wages you know, Humpty Dumpty says…” In Wonderland, money walks and Mr. Humpty Dumpty can even make synonyms out of mutual respect and duplicitous behaviour. What a beautiful place Wonderland is!.

Skerritt say he signed MOU with China. Dominicans up to now cannot see/read or be informed of the contents of MOU. Openness?

Skerritt takes loan from China, building State College and State palace, – no locals could tender for any project. Locals have to pay back loan, but Chinese awarded contracts.

Chinese come first? Roseau now swamped, taken over by Chinese businesses. Part of the secret deal? transparency? openness? are we all dumb Mr PM. So you taking you foot? You’ve bought stupidity for true?

So many secret sales of our Dominican passports and diplomatic immunity? Passports (diplomatic)in hands of foreigners with problems with the Law. Millions made by a few. NO OPENNESS. Secret deals revealed by patriots. Facts and evidence to prove the corrupt practices.

Petro Caribe deal with Venezuela? Where is the cheaper fuel and electricity? How many millions DA owe Venezuela? How comes Minister of ENERGY cannot be Minister responsible for Petro Caribe? Is fuel not energy? Fooling the people all the time. But how long?

Dominica is witnessing the most arrogant, secretive, corrupt Govt. and inept, Narcisst PM. Facts are there to show. The nation is going down a slippery road. The few, who think they have “power”, economic and/or political, are trampling on the Rights of the majority of Dominicans.

How long will this Govt. hide the TRUTH from the people? How long will Skerritt take before he decides to be questioned, to be investigated for alledged illegal acts, by the institutions set up to do just those things – The courts, IPO etc. Fear of incriminating himself? The Cabal believe their own lies.

Is a reason why controversial leaders – like PM Skeritt – do not subject themselves to questioning by the “free” press. Especially, not when there is so much to answer to.

No doubt, every nation on earth seeks to milk its relationship with other nations. The issue with us in Dominica is that we increasingly look like a beggar nation.

Note the frequency with which the PM leaves the country on foreign trips. Seems like every other week. One needs to ask, “What is the return on such investment?”

Dominica is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, granted, not of the traditional kinds – fossilized fuel, gold, silver or diamond. But endowed it is with fertile volcanic soil, abundant forest, an infinite supply of fresh water, over four hundred inches of rainfall a year, and the list goes on.

It boggles the mind that the PM has not, can not, empanel a Dominican brain trust to clearly identify and list all of Dominica’s natural blessings and then seek to partner with the business class to exploit our resources for the economic good of the country.
