Ireland imposes visa restrictions on Dominica

Holders of Dominican passports who want to travel to Ireland must now apply for a visa due to changes in that country’s immigration regime.

Irish Minister for Justice Helen McEntee announced that the visa restriction will take effect on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

“This is a carefully considered decision taken which will bring Ireland into closer alignment with the visa regime in the United Kingdom and the Schengen area,” she said when making the announcement.

Dominica passport holders who intend to transit through Ireland must also obtain a transit visa.

McEntee further stated that her country regularly reviews its visa requirements to maintain effective immigration control and ensure balance.

“Irish visa requirements are kept under ongoing review, having regard to the need to ensure that effective immigration controls are in place whilst also facilitating those who wish to travel to Ireland for  purposes of a visit, to work, to study or to join family members,” she stated.

The authorities in Ireland said that transitional arrangements will be made for Dominicans who have already made travel plans in the weeks that follow the implementation of the new visa rules.

The visa requirement was also imposed on citizens from Honduras and Vanuatu.

The Irish government said it does not expect to see an increase in visa applications from citizens from these three countries because of the new regime.

“The number of nationals from Dominica, Honduras, and Vanuatu travelling to, and residing in Ireland is relatively low. Therefore, it is not expected there will be a significant increase in visa applications,” it said in a statement.

Reports indicate that the new visa requirement is part of a broader effort by Ireland to harmonize its visa regulations with neighboring countries.

In July 2023, the United Kingdom placed visa restrictions on Dominica due to concerns over the island’s Citizenship by Investment Program (CBI).

The British government said at that time that careful consideration of Dominica’s CBI showed “clear and evident abuse of the scheme, including the granting of citizenship to individuals known to pose a risk to the UK.”

The move was considered a major blow to Dominica but Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit subsequently shrugged it off stating that it wouldn’t cause permanent harm to the island.

Will there be an end to countries imposing visa restrictions on the Dominican passport? What are the plans to reverse those decisions?

It’s almost 8 months since UK imposed restrictions and man in charge is still so dumb to understand that will the moment he discloses the list of passports that were issued outside of citizenship of law the trend will be only going. Hopefully eventually power change occur or West instead of punishing all will just sanction Skeritt and his best friend Hayden who exploit country to nuts…

And I hope more EU countries or countries out there in Europe follow suit. There are certain funding and grants available with certain conditions attached – I hope that they find ways either tactful ways or diplomatic ways to deny us this right. The only way that this passport will lose value. is for nations to begin imposing bans like this.

There are a lot of countries that provide citizenship by investment. That includes eu countries by the way and there is a lot of good that comes out of that. Yet the issue that some countries take with Dominicas’ is the the cost and some steps. This is the issue that needs fixing.

Who, what and where is Ireland.Dominica have no interest in Ireland. just as it have interest in Russia. The UK and Ireland are not in the Schengen states.Ireland is a member of the 27 countries EU the UK is not.One member of 27,and Dominica has access to more than 140 countries visa free.Even if all 27 EU countries were to impose visa restriction on Dominica, there would still be more than 120 visa free countries.Which is better than a lot of countries.Dominicans once had to get visas to visit the French islands of Guadeloupe,Martinique and St.Marteen.IRELAND and all UWP puppets and lapdogs can go F themselves.Ireland as everybody know is a puppet of the UK.

Hello Hussey! Wake up you hypocrite you still bazoody? We the patriots of Dominica are waiting to hear a tune from you. You can’t sing this time because you are down there in Babylon? Stay there because your passport has been revoked and you can’t travel out of Babylon. I wonder what will it take for you to abandon this dirty and corrupt government of Roosevelt Skeritt. Are you willing to go down with the ship 🚢? Because it’s quite clear that it’s sinking fast and it has nothing to do with the Houthis in the Red Sea but Red is dangerous.

They do right. Dominica not operating well and in good faith. they know something fishy with us. and they have the right to protect themselves. Soon France will follow suit. All you think is Jesus Christ that was on the podium shouting no law no constitution. All you clap and sing his praise. Now he more concerned about putting Edison James in jail while Joseph Isaac smiling in the House of Parliament. Ireland do right put restrictions on us. These so called leaders do not care about us. Their diplomatic passports give them access to place we dont have. So that is not their problem. Nor will they do what is necessary to stop the visa free issue we hare nor facing. As long as their pockets are full they will continue to sell passport indiscriminately. And to hell with whichever Dominican it affects.

If DA had stopped selling passports to criminals through the CBi program, that woud’nt happen !

The aim of this visa restriction is to prevent the entry of international criminals using our citizenship, not to stop “real” DA citizens.

Who cares about Ireland? There is always fighting and bombings going on in Belfast and Dublin. Life is miserable in those two cities of Ireland and Nothern Ireland. Think about it – not even the Kennedys give a damn about Ireland.

meanwhile these governments are flooding their countries with the same muslim and arab migrants that use the CBI program, for the sake of “diversity”. Just the other day a migrant in Ireland stabbed a child or something and the whole country was in an uproar and the government was attacking the people who were angry about the fact that some migrant had stabbed one of their own people.

They talk out of two sides of their mouth. On one hand they concerned about security so they impose restrictions on us because of CBI program, but on the other hand they letting those same people come into their country, some of them already having committed acts of terrorism.

    makes no sense

Skerrit accepting Israel Aid with a smile he cannot condemn Israel. So he can only talk his nonsense about “amicable solution” and “want violence to stop” but he will never come out and say Israel needs to cool out and stop the genocide. Because he know the little “Aid”, the little free nonsense that we supposed to be able to provide for ourselves, will stop.

Has the EU imposed visa restrictions on Dominica? No. Do Dominicans still use the Schengen visa to visit most EU countries? Yes.

do not believe visa restriction should be imposed on citizen of Dominica who are working and living on the island but restriction should be imposed on persons who mismanage the sales of passport and person who buy passport solely for the purpose of free movement from their country to other country by using our passport
its always one set of people that has to pay the price and that should stop

Sadly, but truthfully Dominica has handed the wealth of the CBI programme to a blind man who has increased his limitations by putting a kerchief around his nose and earplugs in his ears. His attempts at accountability has caused regret, dissatisfaction and anger.
I plead with you sir, for the sake of current citizens and the future generations, PLEASE do what the E U recommended at point#5: bring all monies obtained from the programme home to the Treasury in Dominica and for heaven’s sake dont allow us citizens to undergo more difficulties when we go about our legitimate businesses. I am tired of being put in a room and questioned about my passport while others pass freely.
It’s never too late to do the RIGHT THING!!
Once again sir, I implore you.
    Respectfully submitted.

For marketing purposes Dominica boasts that our passport allows the holder to travel throughout the Schengen region with little hassle and no visa requirement.
Ireland is making this move to come into alignment with the new travel protocol strategy of de UK and Schengen areas.
Let’s see who or what Skerrit will blame for dat!
he might just shrug it off again.

Now I know what part of Ireland you were able to afford staying. Talk about that. I have visited London but I can’t say that I know England. And I still don’t know the tiniest fraction of the whole of London. So be quiet. Folks have visited Brooklyn or one of the five boroughs of NYC and was only able to go out a few times in the immediate surroundings; then after coming back home to Dominica they would say how they don’t like America. These are the worst ignoramus things people say. But yes, some ignoramus people believe them. So just shut up.
