The Kalinago Territory is poised to come alive with color, rhythm, and tradition today as it hosts Tewey Vaval, a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit.

This annual event, deeply embedded in the heritage of the Kalinago people, combines traditional Kalinago expressions with Dominica’s Carnival festivities, creating a truly unique experience.

Honorable Cozier Frederick, the Parliamentary Representative for the Salybia Constituency, has extended an open invitation to the public to attend and participate in today’s events, via press release.

The event program includes:

– 3:00 PM – Lapo Kabwit Parade (featuring traditional drumming and a street procession)
– 4:00 PM – Vaval Procession (showcasing Kalinago-inspired costumes and performances)
– 7:30 PM – Burning of Vaval (a symbolic farewell to Carnival)
– 9:00 PM– HiFi Session (music and entertainment to conclude the night)

The Kalinago Events Committee encourages everyone to attend in large numbers, support the performers, and partake in this unforgettable celebration of Kalinago culture and the Carnival spirit.

Alice Dalrymple, the Kalinago Development Officer in the Division of Kalinago Upliftment, discusses this year’s Kalinago Mas theme and highlights how the event integrates Kalinago traditions with the broader cultural carnival celebrations in Dominica.
