Thea Lafond, Dennick Luke

Dominican Triple Jumper Thea Lafond and 800 meter runner Dennick Luke will be the flag bearers leading the Dominican delegation in the opening parade at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games will get underway on the 23rd of July with an official ceremony which will get underway at 7am Caribbean time.

President of the Dominica Olympic Committee Billy Doctrove says the opening ceremony will be a prestigious moment as Dominica joins the rest of the World in putting on the biggest games despite the challenges being posed by covid-19.

Dominica will compete in the sport of Athletics, with 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Ms. Thea Lafond in the discipline of Triple Jump.

Ms. Lafond will be joined by Mr. Dennick Luke who will represent Dominica in the 800 meter event.

The Dominican athletes are participating in a training camp being held in a bio secure bubble, but will arrive at the Olympic Village on Friday.

President of the Dominica Olympic Committee Billy Doctrove told DOC Press Attaché, Garvin Richards, in a video interview that the opening is expected to be a prestigious one despite the many challenges posed by COVID-19.

Sad to see that its only 2 athletes taking part in olympics 2020 in Tokyo, but it’s not surprising. From 2004 sports have been on a downward spiral in Dominica. Liar Skerrit and his cabinet have, if anything, rendered many playing fields smaller, have had very weak sports ministers, and kept WindsorPark closed to the Roseau people, even when there was no DGS playing field, etc, etc.. Liar Skerrit has killed all that..A self proclaimed dog in liar Skerrit’s cabinet said we are tired of being last in everything..and we have really been last in sports from 2004.
    Cricket declined
    Football declined
    Netball declined
    Volleyball declined
    Athletics declined
    Every sport declined.
That’s largely because what we have passing as a government, lead by a liar has failed Dominica..The present Olympic Committee is no better. It has done a very poor job.
Nethertheless i wish the two athletes well.

Unless they already left they had better be prepared to be disappointed, since the games might be canceled at the last moment.

As for the opening if it opens, the crowed will comprise of approximate fifteen hundred people.

is either they or Chinese or some other CBI passport owner. Not like we have prepared any other athletes to represent us way ahead of time. Thank you Thea and Denny for sticking to your athletic goals. It just so happened the Olympic Committee are able to utilize your talents.
