UPDATE: Landslides in Bellevue and Canefield

Landslide at Bellevue

Efforts by Dominica News Online (DNO) to contact officials of the Public Works Ministry for an update on the landslides which occurred under the Canefield Cliff and Bellevue Chopin this morning, have so far been unsuccessful.

However, DNO has received information from other sources that a smaller landslide which occurred at Canefield has been cleared and that traffic is now flowing. One motor vehicle appears to have been affected in that incident.

Our attempts will continue to get an update on the situation at Bellevue Chopin where the road was blocked  .

A video of the updated situation under the Canefield Cliff is posted below.

Even when commenters in this forum mean well, their intentions are honorable, the foot soldiers of the current regime seek to annihilate them. They deem the most innocuous and positive criticisms of the current administration as anti-government.
The DLP misguided loyalists think that their leader is being persecuted whenever he is contradicted. As I’ve said previously, the trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by flattery than saved by criticism.

“Promises made promises kept” whenever you hear any leader of a country utter those “sweet refrain” do like the old people say “break stick in your ears”; Question for you double (Dr) PhD; did you consult the Opposition Leader on the “Alternate route via Morne Daniel; and what is taking your engineers so long to come up with the plan and costing; or are you depending on some foreign entity to pay for it as usual? come on garcon since you and your spin Dr’s boast of $1.5 billion foreign reserve; CBI millions; and the best economy in the world; you could have done something already with that menace; or maybe the route is projected to pass too close to your Penthouse on the hill? just asking Dr.

The day before yesterday my comment on DNO under “Pointe Round Bridge Compromised” read as follows:

“A year ago the Canefield cliff collapsed twice over. The chances are that it will do so again given heavy rain, and especially so if rainfall is coupled with an earth tremor. When that happens lives may be lost and Roseau will be cut off from the north for vehicular traffic,

We were assured that an alternative route via Morne Daniel was being pursued as a matter of urgency.

Is it no longer deemed urgent?”

Given today’s landslide, I hope the projected alternative route will be put back on the front burner.

I am very familiar with Canefield Cliff but not as familiar with Bellevue Chopin. Hence, I cannot identify the precise location of the slide. However, I would not be surprised to learn that it is connected to run-off from the ongoing Bellevue Chopin housing development.

Roger Burnett this is not connected to run-off from the ongoing Bellevue Chopin Housing Project.
This is the area west of Bellevue on the way to Loubiere.

@Roger Burnett….You will not be surprised as anticipated since this landslide has no connection with housing development in the area of Bellevue Chopin area. Do your research first before spreading (fake information).

    • Where our Bypass?
      November 10, 2018

Exactly where is the bypass are they waiting on someone to die to do it. The PM said that he was moving quickly to acquire the lands. Has that been done?. Who is going to compensate the man for his damage vehicle.?
